Well, I've been looking for a F2P game recently, and this seems to fit. I understand that their is certain classes/races that require real cash to purchase, but is that it? What else do I need to know If i wish to start? And, does this game have the same freedom as other koreon F2P games, and if not, what difference is their?
Thanks,
A potential Dungeon and Draggoner'.

DDO is better than any F2P I have played, but it has no real open spaces just explorer areas that are instanced. DDO is mostly a dungeon crawl game with no fluff or time sinks that are not in the dungeons. Some specifics on what you like about those other games will make it easier to answer your questions.
I am mainly into Sandbox's ... Ive finished with Runescape, Wurm Online, Ryzom, and they have been my favourite, but I dont mind this. Im more concerned about is, if I dont spend a dime on this game, is to worth playing? Or would it be better playing another F2P game?
You can only level to 4/8/12/16/20 before having to get a certain token to move past that.
If you wish to pay for that token, it's rather easy to move through. If not, you must get one to drop or from long/hard questlines (so I've heard.)
There are many, many extra instance zones for quests and such that you can buy, which would make the game much more fun and faster to level.
There are spots on the store list for armor and weapons, but nothing put into it yet.
You get what you pay for. You can try to go full f2p but the amount of grinding you'll need to do in order to lvl up or explore some other areas is enough to make you want to pay.
f2p isn't really a good description for their model, its more like ugwup4p (You get what you pay for play)
Still, a relatively quick d/l (took me bout hour) so give it a shot if you're really curious
Edit: Oh, if you're looking for sandbox, its not for you.
Hmm... I'll guess I'll pass on this one, not exactly what I'm looking for.
This is as far from a sandbox and as far from F2P as you can get. Stay away if that is what you like. Ryzom is the sandbox game to beat right now. Eve is also really good. You will not get a quality experience with any game marketed as F2P, and DDO is no exception. Just remember, they started out as a subscription game. There is a reason they went F2P. There were not enough subs to justify having the game, but there are enough overzealous fans of this game who must not understand what D&D is all about who are willing to buy things in the DDO store that they think they can make more money in this fashion. They are probably right.
"Gamers will no longer buy the argument that every MMO requires a subscription fee to offset server and bandwidth costs. It's not true you know it, and they know it." Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet, 2007
WTF? No subscription fee?
Currently there's a number of free dungeons you can run and it's totally possible to max out as a F2p player. Some levels have more free dungeons than others and there's more pre-lvl 10 dungeons than post, but if you don't mind a bit of grinding you can do it.
No more level up tokens are needed, just XP like any other game.
This is one of the better F2p set up's out there, although the best way to play is to plan on tossing $20 at it from time to time to buy dungeon packs / expansions.
