zOMG WoW pwns all!!!11!!1

Okay just kidding. I'm not meaning to troll, really. Just wanted to get a point across by that inarticulate and annoying topic title. ^.^

What is wrong with people? That is my main question, the nagging thought that has been annoying me ever since I joined this community. I see these pointless debates, usually started just to annoy others, about (primarily) how epic or how gay WoW is. I must ask: WHO CARES?

I like Guild Wars. I like Combat Arms. I like Runes of Magic, Atlantica Online, Perfect World, and WoW was fun too (although I declined having a friend pay my subs for me).

I like trying different games, sticking with the ones I really enjoy, and then trying new ones. I tried Chronicles of Spellborn, amongst many f2p games, and I also like console games. I like exploring my options and, God forbid, having fun. I also like sharing the details about the games I've enjoyed playing. I'll readily give the pros and cons.

So why is so hard for humans to accept the fact that everyone enjoys different games, styles, and almost every aspect of life? We all have a difference in opinion and some common ideals. What does hating on WoW, or spewing praise like it is the only game that exists, accomplish? "(War, what is good for?) Absolutely nothing!" (<-- Except for oil resources, of course)

This topic can get spammed left and right, I don't really mind. But I must say, above all else... World of Warcraft, just like many other MMOs, will die. The empire of WoW will fall and something else, potentially from Blizzard, will take its place. Perhaps nothing will ever be as renowned and well known, but in 20 years from now WoW will be obsolete and look like Mario from Super Nintendo.

Opinions are always welcome, I know I'm not the only one with an opinion and my opinion isn't always right.

    Lol, epic title.

Anyway ya, you made some good points. One of the better points being that WoW will eventually be toppled. (Probably by a Blizzard MMO)

True OP, True, but the reason people bitch and fight is for the same reason we have wars. Cause some think its ok to have people work to death in horrible labor camps and others oppose it. You might be saying, "but wth does that have to do with anything Hepisodic?" Think about it carefully. MMO's are like sports. Or other countries w/e you want to use. One side likes their team other MMO (or side) likes the other team. What good is it to just enjoy a game normally? Nothing thats what. We are all like the Brits deep down. When our team is losing or lost, we have to beat the other team's fans up. Simple...

Veritas Vos Liberabit- The truth will set you free.

People who usually start these arguments/debates are starting them for one of two reasons.

1.) They just want to have a debate.

2.) They feel like they have to boast about how good there game is since they spent so many days of there life on it, to trick themselves into thinking it was actually worth it, not getting that it's a game that is for FUN.

At least that's how I see it.

Nah, it will be Guildwars 2. :)

But it really doesn't matter which game, the important thing is that other MMOs better then the ones we are playing now will come. EQ, UO or Wow isn't the top of MMOs forever, games changes and becomes better even though it can take some years betweem the fantastic games that change a whole genre.

And that taste differs, it is rather important too.

Typically this site consists of 40 years old or older people disgruntled with MMO's, or people who are very young and only play WoW and F2P games. It's an age and culture divide. This site gets the good and the bad of the MMO spectrum, and unfortunately they react negatively to one another.

Honestly, I just think that many people are afraid of diversity.

Or, the fact that the WoW fanboiz can feel thier game getting sucked into a black hole, which will leave them trapped in the time-space continum forever! oh noez!  =O

Until..... They then become the old WOW VET disgruntled with the youngins talking about how some future MMO created everything! and well I'll try to say something and most of them will be like "WTF is EQ? or DAOC?"

    exactly.

    'who cares?'

wow is not that bad. if it were bad - it wouldnt be as popular and well known as it is now.

however other games should be looked at with the same face. not a hating face, not a loving face either.

just look at every game the same, criticise every one of them in the same aspects.

why? the better question would be - why not?

with so much hate on the internets these days, some things naturally become crap. but they arent crap!

you just become influenced by your surroundings (this time its internet).

if everyone thinks some thing is great - it doesnt mean it is. if everyone thinks something is bad - doesnt mean it is. ;]

so... treat everything equally instead of going with the trollwagon.

One word.  Fanboyism.  It's a disease.  It clouds people's minds causing them to think that anything or anyone that is not "thier game" is wrong.  No middle ground, no path of reasoning, no second opinion.  Just flat out wrong.

Something, somewhere went wrong with these people.  How they've become that way, I don't know.  Society is probably to blame.  Forced fed marketing all their lives, brand names, logos, sports teams, school spirit, you name it going so far as even "Doritos suck dood why are u eeting Doritoz? Lol @ u ROFL ROLF only a nub would eat Doritiioos luuuwl!!! 11 me and my homiez wud only evr eat Cheetos, cheetos are 4lyfe dawg!"  It's crept into everything now.

Once people give in to this disease you might have to wait years for them get over themselves, if that ever happens.  All the while you're waiting, new ranks of countless young fanboy drones are lining up to take their place like the mythological Hydra, who would only grow two extra heads in the place of any one that was cut off.

God be with us.  Soon there will be only Fanboy and Troll left as day after day it seems the number of rational people who can formulate an opinion without taking their side too far to either side either way is dwindling.

What is it about video games in particular that bring out as much bloodthirsty fervor in people as you'd only likely ever see in topics regarding race and religion.  Just a game...just a game.  But in the absence of anything of real meaning in a person's life, be that family bonds, relationships, love, friendship, goals, hopes and dreams...which would all fall to the wayside in the life of a person most likely to be found here and places like here, the dark corners of the internet fraught with topics going on about electronic dragons and scantily clad half elf archer-mages, well I think for the lack of anything of real importance in these guys and gals lives they become outwardly hostile.

Like when you take people away from a household dog that was once a cuddly and loyal, friendly and outgoing family pet.  Eventually they become hollow inside, a shell of what they once were.  Without people or those that would care for them around they have to revert to their basest survival instincts, and pretty much that means barking, growling and yipping at anyone that comes near them for any reason at all.

    Or something like that.

Someone get Sean a shot of Tequila.

Sean, why are people so competetive about video games?  Have you ever seen the movie Grandma's Boy?  The gamer movie that Adam Sandler let his friends star in?  HILARIOUS.  If you have not seen it, please do.  If you have, remember that scene in the lounge room, where they play DDR, insert ridiculous video game X here - challenge of the day, and so on... This is cut throat.  Some people really love video games.  I've been playing them since I was 5 years old back in 1986.  It's a sport.

But at the end of the day we are all gamers.  It's like car guys talking shit to each other on forums.  Chevy guy VS ford guy.  Mitsubishi guy against Subaru guys.  Nascar guys, vs F1 guys...

I usually keep my mouth shut on these forums, but I just feel the need to vent like crazy lately.  =D

and not only video games... other mindless pointless dribble drabble topics thats going down in our world right now.

There was a time when WoW had a normal community circa 05 -07

Around this time there was no ZOMG LOOOL QQ T_T etc etc

    It was a normal mmorg.

Kids have been marketed to buy WoW and they now outnumber oldskool gamers.

Blizzard have done a very good job regarding sales and marketing and thus leads WoW to the state it is today.

I love your statement and I completely agree! Here we get the two extremes. Old gamers who revel in the old table top games and the old ways of doing things and the new ones(very young players you spoke of) that only play WoW and a small handful of others. Then they spout extremist ideas to one another. One says "This game is awesome" the other says "This game sucks balls". It's  something that won't quickly end. You have some guys here that have been in the industry for X years and didn't like where it was going so they left. Now they're like contractors or something.  But your statement is completely true. This site gets the good and the bad of the MMO spectrum. Any gaming medium gets some good and bad but most are off-balanced for one extreme.

MMO's are the ark of the gaming world. Let it take us in new directions.

If you say in a forum that you don't like WOW, or that you got tired of it, and you need something more blah blah blah, people inmediatly regard you as a higer level kind of player.  This is why people with not skills at all need to bash WOW.
