No offense, I'm not reading this whole darn thread.
Boozing till 6am at parties/bars/nightclubs, ADDICTED to video games, writing term papers drunk the night before, playing college sports, partying with crazy foriegn exchange groups(all world places... super fun... its like a buffet).
Hating the alarm clock = Youth... get up(no matter what) and get your ass to class. Connect with your professors (ask intelligent questions, answer their questions, go to office hours). And freaking study. Darn... your paying a fortune to be in that class with that professor (literally several thousand per class... and you want to skip because you are tired/hungover/etc?)
Graduating with highest honors = doable. Me.
Dropping out of school over Final Fantasy game... I witnessed that too with my roommate (tried to interviene... was it depression first or Final Fantasy... chicken and the egg).
If MMORPGs keep you out of bars and from getting wasted, probably going to do better... but... there is that whole Real World experience....

Lol, this. I feel exactly the same way whenever I go through these threads. It's hard to keep up with everyone here.

Ah, man. Yeah... It's weird, I never even thought of MMOs/games being a bad thing. Actually, I didn't think about them all that much. I just went to parties, had fun, went back home and that was that. Now I'm more aware of how much time I spend in-game or doing other stuff than ever before. I'm super scrupulous about managing my days. I miss being so relaxed about life... Oh well, I guess it's part of becoming an adult.

Pffft, you're so full of yourself. Haha, I wish I was that lucky though... I do remember skipping class a couple of times because I was simply too tired from gaming all night long. Only happened once or twice, though, I swear!

I think some people are more susceptible to addiction than others. It's a complicated issue. I know my mom is addicted to shopping, although she won't admit it to me. I think it has something to do with trying to fill a void or something.

Haha, that's what I keep telling my parents. AT LEAST I'M NOT ON DRUGS DAAAAD! Videogames saved my life, hehe. To be honest, I've felt more immersion inside a game than outside, even though I was quite popular and went out often, I just never felt the same magic being with real life people. I feel I can be more myself in-game, or even here, than I can out there... Sad but true.
Ever since I got into the psychology honors program I have been trying to figure out a way to play mmorpg games as a casual player. I no longer have time for FFXI as a lot of you know it takes up a ton of time. I started to consider playing Free 2 play mmorpg games. I figured, "At least I won't have to waist money" Well thats not true. As I started to progress in one or another free 2 play mmorpg game I noticed that you have 2 choices. Ether you spend a lot of your hard earned money on this game, or you spend a ton of time. Nether which I was willing to do. I am only able to play about 6-8 hours of total time a week. I have read many stories of college students playing mmorpg games. I would like to know of some. If you are one of the people who can balance MMORPG gaming and school, or have found an mmorpg game that is casual enough to let you do both without maxing out your credit card please let me know.
F2P MMORPGs are as casual and inexpensive as the player chooses to make them.
Accept the default rate of progression the game allows and confine your play to the spare time you have available and you can play whatever f2p MMORPG suits you without compromising your studies.
If you are unwilling or unable to confine your play in that manner, you should stay away from MMORPGs altogether until your schooling is complete.
