I was going to try to make a poll with the ten best Rpg series of all time then quickly realized that I would need way more than 10 poll spots lol.
So I wanna know what you think the greatest Rpg ever made was, on any platform.
I have a hardtime picking one game but for the validity of the thread and to keep people from listing a top 20 list which I'm sure everyone could do.
I will list only one.
Baldur's Gate II
This game got me into Rpgs even more than Ultima games and I played this game more than anyother Rpg combined this includes thousands of hours across Elder scroll games and my early obsession with Square soft Rpgs.
PLaying: EvE, Ryzom
Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum
Comments
The FIRST Fallout. Hands down. Second would be Koei's Uncharted Waters 2.
Balders Gate for offline with fallout 3 as the modern day come back king.
Other than that, anything by Bioware has to be strong consideration.
To err is human....to play is divine
I'd say Chrono Trigger or Chrono Cross. Each have their pro's and con's.
For me it has to be Final Fantasy V (SNES+PSONE) i loved the job systema and the story....also great music.
March on! - Lets Invade Pekopon
for best series, I'd def say Diablo series for online gameplay thats like nothing else, and the story is pretty good for those that actually read it.
for a single game I would say KOTOR 1, but maybe i'm a little biased since im a sw nut :P
I would have to say Xenogears.
For me Baldur's Gate saga and Final Fantasy VII
"you are like the world revenge on sarcasm, you know that?"
One of those great lines from The Secret World
This, too!
For me it would have to be Final Fantasy VII and Planescape: Torment
Elder scrolls morrowind.
For me the best rpg is final fantasy ix.
Zidane ftw! :P
Also Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth is wonderful too.
Ultima IV
SW-KotoR
Final Fantasy 3 or 6 for turn based rpg w/e u wanna call it and secret of evermore for action rpg for the snes!!
Disgea is also a great RPG that i love.
March on! - Lets Invade Pekopon
I'd say the first RPG I got into and one that got me hooked on the genre
Nintendo 8-bit RPG called..... Crysalis
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crystalis
"Crystalis" was great, was well as "Faxanadu", but I have a special place in my heart for Culture Brain's "Little Ninja Bros.". It was a 2-player coop hybrid action RPG with both random/boss battles in sidecroller-type action and some tradtional turn-based fights just for flavor at certain points. Lots of minigames like running off a fattening meal by tapping A and B in unison too, I had a blast in that game both solo and with buddies.
Writer / Musician / Game Designer
Now Playing: Skyrim, Wurm Online, Tropico 4
Waiting On: GW2, TSW, Archeage, The Rapture
final fantasy 1
Ultima 4, though Wasteland was great, as was Fallout.
Xenogears for the most part. Even had a 3d gear fighting game in it!
Crystalis was also amazing.
These are the games I have been totaly obsesed with. A Bards Tale (original not the crapy remake), Final Fantasy IIV and X, Morrowind and Oblivion and Kotor 1 and 2.
Earthbound for SNES. All the others fall into the Squaresoft category.
Baldur's Gate 1 (not BG2 - that was one of the worst story continuation in a gaming's history)
REALITY CHECK
Surprising to see so many answer Ultima IV here, I thought we are few. Man, I typed all the conversations in it with a typewriter one summer (pre-internet, I'm not crazy!). But still, though KotOR comes close and indeed does surpass in modern day replayability, it's Baldur's Gate II ftw.
Planescape:Torment
Don think we ever will see a RPG like that again
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
ShadowHearts: Covenant for the PS2
