FE with my rig?

RautenRauten Member Posts: 38

Lately I've been reading about this game, and have a growing interest for it, so much that I feel like I'm about to assault Steam to buy myself a digital copy.

But there's this one thing I'm concerned with: performance. Some people say performance is topnotch, while others say it's clanky and slow, seems to be quite determined by the PC.

So I'm wondering if there's anyone around here with a rig similar to mine that could shed some light into this for me:

Intel Core2Duo E7400 2.8Ghz

ATi HD 4670 1GB DDR3

4GB RAM

Windows XP

Thanks in advance.

You should be able to play it on medium/high with no AA and full AF. The game is generally very smooth, but can slow to a crawl in major towns and cities, even on top-notch modern PCs.

A very recent patch has somewhat alleviated the issue, although its obviously still a work in progress.

Well, I don't mind low FPSs in town, so I guess I'll be buying it now, thanks.

It seems like in most mmo's when you go into the towns your fps drops.  There's just a lot more going on.

I wish I could try the game and just see how it would run on my pc.  If it ran good I would probably by it when I get my next few days off.  As it is now I'm just playing until my Aion sub runs out and hoping that FE continues to optimize their engine.

One thing people always forgot when posting their rig is which screen (resolution) they are using. If you play on a 19" (1280x1024) you'll be fine, although you probably wont be able to play at max setting and cities could be a pain (although better fps after yesterday patch in cities)
if you playing on a 24", or even 22", screen you probably need to play in low setting.

Yesterday's patch made miracles on my PC! FPS in town has gone from 12-15 to well over 30.... Not sure what was done, but it's amazing.... I have Win7 x64 btw.

Ah true, my bad, I'm using a 17" monitor at 1280x1024. Anyway I already installed, but still gotta update and can´t play till much later today, but apparently the default settings for my hardware that the game chose for me are almost the max, so even if I can´t play at max, this makes me pretty confident that I'll be able to run it smoothly at medium at least.

    Thanks for the help.

@DonnieBrasco: that's good to hear! Here's hoping they keep improving on it.

There is a couple things with performance as in any game.Shadows is a big hit.If you turn everything on full you will struggle at times, but IMO you do not need all full settings because you won't notice a big difference.

Other than the obvious shadows, most of the settings have to do with various lighting. If you turn shadows off that alone will give some very good frame rates, also don't touch the antisopic or whatever it was called. It gives the game a sorta of realistic HUE/darkness but without it the steady bright look was fine by me.Also keep the default at 80 or 85 whatever those sliders were.

The main reason is this....I tired all on full and the view distance is not very far at all,the game still tends to draw as you go...of course.

Basically keep the default and your rocking with very high frames at times well over 100.

My rig has a tad slower freq. and i am using Vista with 4gb.So you should see better results than i did.I do have my card O/c but honestly i don't think it helps much.
