First off, WOW! Icarus Studios really came out of the woodwork with this title, and I regard this as the best videogame I have ever played, PERIOD. It has its faults (graphics being the most obvious), but from what I have seen so for, this game has YEARS of replayability. Here is the super-short soundbyte review:
If you like the idea of a hardcore game like EVE, but couldn't stand the ship combat in EVE, stop reading and buy this game now. It is that simple.
OR
If you loved pre-CU SWG, and like the idea of post-apoc world setting, do the same.
Here are the things FE offers that I have sorely missed with recent titles: complex crafting, emotes that have a purpose, necessary community involvement (trade, grouping), specialty professions like cook/doctor etc, hardcore gameplay where nothing is given to you, vast seamless world (largest I have ever seen), beautiful world design, a sense of exploration, meaningful travel times (watch your ass), kick ass SCI FI world with well though out lore, endless loot drops and itemization, built in grouping mechanics (not some added on feature like most titles), good UI, and in saving the best for last: SKILL BASED ADVANCEMENT!!!!
WTG Icarus! You have put all other 2009 AAA MMO releases to shame. Kudos. My workdays are much, much slower now, as I cannot wait to log back on. I haven't felt like this about an MMO since pre-CU SWG.

I don't think I would ever gush and praise any game as much as you are praising FE. I honestly do not see much I liked from the videos I have seen. Enemies seems too dumb and were not able to put up any fight at all. The poor AI ruins any fun that might be had from combat, because you shoot them and they just rotate and begin shooting back for the most part. The graphics are also a issue with me. I don't need the best, but I would enjoy something that looked a bit decent.
I realise that your post was ment to be a super fast review, but basically it just came off as propaganda to me without any remarks of the negatives to go with the positives.
My initial "gut reaction" to this game was very very harsh. You are welcome to check my post history to verify that I basically called this game an uber piece of shit. Unfortunately, I was the piece of shit because I'm now eating my words. I stuck with the game, despite my bad initial reaction just to see if any of the talk was true. You're right, the OP's post misses a lot of the negatives about FE, but the game is still extremely good. Couple of pro's and cons from my POV.
1. Mob AI, is not great. I admit this and it is a little annoying the way the mobs move in the game. I think this is something that Icarus is aware of and will continue to work on. The game's only a month in, and I don't find this to be a game breaking issue, just moderately annoying.
2. Graphics are good, not spectacular. When I first started the game I was like OMFG the graphics in this game are laughably bad. They are not actually, it just took a little research on the forums to find the best way to optimize the graphics in game with my hardware. Right now a lot of Nvidia users are having some issues, but by doing a bit of research I see that Icarus has acknowledged and is working on the problem. All I can ask at the end of the day is that they work to fix it, no use bitching about it not being perfect from the get go. Also, now that I optimized everything I can say that there is a great deal of fine detail in the game world. It doesn't slap you in the face the way Aion or other new games do. It's more like, holy shit that billboard is really intricate and cool looking, and it's sitting in the middle of a barren dead wasteland....cool.
3. This game has a lot of promise. After spending time with it and eating my douchebaggery from my previous posts, I realize that this is far and away the most fun I've had in an MMO in a long ass time. I tried Champions Online, game is good but just feels shallow to me. I tried Aion, and that game is just very boring to me, too much like other MMO's that I played and quit. This game reminds me a lot of Eve when it was still in its infancy. There's going to be a hard core fan base that just digs the game, and there will be others that can't deal with it. I can see myself playing this for a long time, maybe even forgoing SW:TOR for this. Heh, never thought I'd think that, much less say it.
You have managed to sum up exactly what I have been thinking , so Kudos to you too !
The OP isn't much of a review, as it does simply cheer for the game, and doesn't present a complete picture of the game. It's just propaganda.
Though I agree that Fallen Earth is a pretty good game, it's not as perfect as the OP makes it sound. Some things he neglected to mention:
1. Graphics and animations are mediocre. Though they aren't terrible, they aren't particularly good.
2. The "ragdoll" physics are amusing much of the time. Kill a guy with a pipe, and he'll fly like he just got hit by a speeding train.
3. The AI of mobs is mediocre to poor.
4. It's early in the game's existence, but the economy looks like it'll suffer from the lack of item degradation and/or binding, as well as the availability of mats from NPC vendors.
5. The skills are fairly limited in number. Additionally, this game presents the same illusion of "total freedom" because it's a skill based game - sure, you can pick your skills, but if you don't min-max in a few skills, essentially creating a few viable "classes", you will not be competitive.
6. The UI is fairly mediocre.
I'll admit, I'm a fan and player of the game, and agree with some of what the OP said. I dislike it, however, when a fanboi won't present people with the whole picture.
Some other positive points he didn't mention:
1. There's only one server at the moment, and it's very well populated.
2. The community is very good.
3. Icarus seems to be pretty responsive to most issues.
Keeping in mind that this is a very new MMO, and one being published by a small company, if you can live with the warts I believe the game has above, you'll probably enjoy this game a lot.

Imagine being forced to eat saltine crackers for the last 5 years, and all of a sudden someone gives you a triscuit with some crab dip on it. Wouldn't that taste like the best cracker you have ever had?
That's too bad - I've been able to enjoy many different aspects of different types of games over the years, so haven't been on your self-imposed saltine diet. Just a difference in mindsets, I suppose.
I'm glad you found a game you like, though.

Thanks for the input on the game OP.

Since you removed your post I will be respectful and take back what I said. Thank you for deciding to not start the name calling.
With the OP on this one but I wanted to add another game besides EVE Online. FE is so close to Fallout, especially the skill system in Fallout 3 that if you love Fallout then FE is a no brainer, buy it. However on the flip side I am not recommending this to my close mates because they are total pretty field, thick forest junkies. They would miss the elves too much.
FE is really starting to sound like something I would like. I think I'm going to order it off Amazon today. There isn't any copies around where I live which is a pretty small town with only a couple places that even carry PC games. I'm currently playing WoW and the only thing that is keeping me playing is the guild I'm in and friends that I made. I have been pretty bored for a while and have been looking for something different and FE sounds like it is the one.

Want the pink or the lime-green ones? I'll be right with ya.
Nicely written impression, man. Totally of the same mind here.
Sure the game needs some polish here and there (well, what do you know? It just released!) but the backbone is sound and healthy and should last for years to come. Which I can not say of most other recent releases which turn out to be bland, uninspiring copycat games without much freedom, depth, content and variety. It is long, long ago that I have been so totally sucked up by a mmorpg.
My brand new bloggity blog.
Order it directly off of www.fallenearth.com
Digital download gets you a free ATV, which you WILL NEED! No respecs either, so make your choices wisely. That ATV is only good for one character.

Thanks the store on fallen earth site has a ATV for ordering a box and the digital download offers a horse mount. I think I will just order the box off the site and get the ATV. Glad I came back and looked here first before ordering off Amazon even though Amazon is $3.00 cheaper. Again thanks
nvm they are both downloads.

LOL... Interesting analogy... and dammit... now I'm hungry. THANKS DIS! -grumbles off to the fridge-
Seriously, though... I can understand and relate to where Dis_Ordur is coming from. Fallen Earth is giving me that same feeling as well; something along the lines of "man... it's about time someone made a MMO like this...". I almost completely passed on this one, but for some reason decided to check it out - and I'm glad I did. It has a certain "feel" to it that I haven't had in practically any MMOs I've tried that have come out in the past 5 years or so.
I won't say "OMG this is the bestest MMO evar" because that would be silly. Not everyone is going to agree with me. I can say, though, that for me and for many others, FE seems to be filling a void that's been left open for too long in the MMO market.

I agree that this game has put triple A titles to shame this year. Probably more than just this year. I will reserve final judgement once I get deeper into the game, but so far I am having an interesting time in sector 1. It seems like I have been in sector 1 for awhile now, but leveling, atleast for me, seems very slow. This isn't necessarily a bad thing though. I like working on the crafting, building my own gear and finding out where certain resources drop.
One consequence of the small agro circle is that you don't tend to get ganked as much when you are out exploring. For me this is a positive, as i hate feeling that I have to fight for every foot of ground when I am just intent on exploring and discovering new things. The graphics are fine with me. I think I have settled on medium or high texture setting and most other settings are set to 80%. Performance and server stability is average for an mmo in the first month I think.
The game has a kind of western feel to it to me, which is also something I find appealing. All in all I am really enjoying it.
A thing about aggro circles is that they will widen considerably as you go north. Another thing you will notice the further north you go, is that creatures do quite a bit more damage than humanoids. This can be a problem when you're taking 10pts from a humanoid and then that wolf does 20dmg a pop to you.
The AI is laughable for the most part. A lot of people talk about how ranged mobs run into packs of other mobs, but not really. It simply runs away from you, so if you run through it and position between them and their friends, they'll run away from their friends. You can also pull them with a ranged weapon without a problem. I think this is the new 'graphics' issue that everyone will complain about, but this one actually has some validity.

Honestly, I wasn't too impressed with this game back when I was beta testing it. Although its priorities seemed to be right up my alley, I just did not feel the implementation worked very well. Also there were some serious performance issues that detracted a lot from my enjoyment of the game.
Still, having read some positive reports from the beta testers on how the game's improved going into release, I've gone ahead and bought it.
And now I'm pleased to be eating my words as well. First, the performance has got noticably better, and I now feel the combat is fun, rather than a source of annoyance. Even more importantly, before release I somehow seem to have missed the fact that this is the sort of game that thrives on population and community, thus really coming into its own after actually being released! (yeah, I know, doh!) It's just a much more enjoyable experience now than it was in beta, where we were naturally trying to break the game instead of playing it.
Fallen Earth also has a certain character, where the parts click together and form a solid whole that's bigger than the sum of its parts. So you can come up with quite some shortcomings when you tackle the features one by one, but the whole itself as an MMO experience just makes sense: the animations, the day/night circle, the color palette, how the towns are spread out and how travel works, how salvaging and crafting factors into that, how ranged combat gets noticably better the higher your skill is, how you are limited when shooting from the back of your horse...
I could go on, but I'm holding that for later, till I've played the release for at least a month more. Suffice to say, this is slowly but surely turning out to be one of the most enjoyable MMO experiences I've had in the last few years. (For reference, my favorite MMO through the years would be EVE.)
I am reading my own experience mirrored in someone else's for the n'th time.... and it is so very true.
Once again I cannot emphasize well enough: this game can only be fairly valued by someone who have actually played it. Anyone else passing judgement based on anything else then having played it, is to be dismissed altogether and fully.

.... for now. Icarus have stated they're fixing that in a patch; you'll be able to get the ATV (or horse, or whatever you got) on any character.
