Is the Droid the new iPhone killer?

VarkingVarking Member UncommonPosts: 542

Just curious to hear what some of the more tech-savvy people here on the forums think. I am with Verizon so I can obviously not get an Iphone with my current carrier, and after Verizons latest television campaigns doing the "idon't" commercials where they knock on the iphone and all its limitations that the Droid doesn't have problems with. I need a new phone as the Blackberry Storm isn't cutting it anymore for me and the Droid is supposed to be far superior to that with a much more favorable App Store as well. Thoughts?

I have a g1 and it's pretty decent.  Don't know how well it compares to an iphone, but it can pretty much do all the same things.  I would venture to guess that the iphone can do stuff like media better, but I doubt it's a big enough of a different to make a big deal or justify the cost of an unlocked iphone.  My opion from my phone is that Andriod has a lot of potential, but it's going to take some time for it to reach that potential

I have had my iPhone for a year.  It is the coolest thing since oxygen.

AT&T service is.... well.... let me put it like this...

I would happily pay $1000 for an unlocked iPhone and my Verizon service back.

EDIT-sorry, this was a bit off topic.. would love to hear from anyone who has used iPhone vs similar phones.

See, I am on Verizon and everyone always tells me how lucky I am to be on the Verizon Network, but I keep telling them how unlucky I am that we miss an iPhone type of phone here. Now the Droid is supposed to be the iPhone killer, or at least Verizons' answer to the iPhone. We shall see soon enough I guess I was just curious if anyone that had an iPhone got their Droid early like some of the review sites. I don't think I will be looking at a new phone until Christmas and by then I am sure there will be enough knowledge available to me on the web to make a good decision. Was just hopeful thinking.

Not to sure if its an Iphone 'killer' but it will be a seriouse competator.

I have a cell phone. It lets me call others and allows others to call me.  I /think/ it can text message too. $20.00 every 3 months and I'm set.

Oh yeah? well I have a super shiny electronic doodad that plays music and shows pictures and browses the web and does TONS of other cool stuff and I only pay $100/ month.

Oh yeah, sometimes it functions as a phone.  When it is in a good mood.  And the celestial bodies are properly aligned.

And as long as I'm not indoors.  And it isn't raining.  And there aren't sunspots and stuff.  It is pretty sweet.

I'm sure the Droid is a good phone and all but they're going against a giant on this one.
The Iphone has been out for a good minute now and I guarantee there's a friend or family member that has one for you to look at every now and then. Only a good selective few are going to want to 'try' something that may or may not be good. It really just comes down to quantity over quality on this subject.
