I agree with his assessment, and that the way they're implementing the DLCs is pretty game/immersion-breaking.

Just installed it, played for one hour. Uninstalling now.

Reasons: Ugly characters. Boring cliche history. Absurdly long dialogues. Not running too smooth in my Pc (2 and a half years old, sorry), boring combat, not too friendly interface. Overall feels like a burden to move around.

It is not for everyone. Don't see how the characters are ugly, they are very crisp, clean looking on my pc...It tells a story, I think the history and the dialogue is great, it is a story and that is how an rpg should be.

No? I'd say they are the most disgusting characters I've seen, with almost photorealistic textures. Also the dog is horrible. Also photorealistic hair that feels pasted on the background.

And what about the grey theeth they all have? Yuk.

If you like the story, ok, I just know the begining and it's the same story all over again, don't know if it gets more interesting later but it sure didn't catch me.

I bought this game a week ago or so and have enjoyed every minute of it.  I really don't have a single negative thing to say about it.  I just am in a rut with mmo's atm since the last 3-4 I've played have been average at best.  Well worth the money imo.

I think this whole post shows the rift between old rpg gamers and new ones. The new ones want fast, lvls, loot, and bragging rights. The old ones we are used to final fantasy, turn based, three hour long boss fights. We love dialog and we love cut scenes and knowing our parties very well. Plane and simple most the people I see complaining about these kind of rpgs are the ones who are not really rpg fans in anything other than name. Sorry but it is the way it is, and as for the people saying I predicted every story twist, could that be because you choose those actions? Yes some of the things you can see coming a mile away, and others you should be like "say what now?"  cause some of them you don't see coming if you played through the whole game. I will go ahead and say if you didn't like dragon age then don't buy mass effect 2 cause it will be similar yet you can screw up and let your party die for good on you there.

I havnt played the game but have to say FF length cut scenes are not something I would enjoy. Its been a long time since I played Baldurs Gate but I dont recall that game having such things. This game was touted as the spiritual successor to that game. Is it, or is it just a selling gimmick?

I read 3-4 pages of this topic and most of them made me laugh, so thanks to you all.

Dragon Age Origins is a great game. If you enjoy RPGs, then you will definitely enjoy Dragon Age.  If not, then go back to GTA or whatever mindless crappy game you were playing.

What made me laugh the most are some of the comparisons. Dragon Age has nothing to do with The Witcher, Drakensang or FFXII. If you guys really played these games, you'd know that DA has nothing to do with them.

The Witcher, was a great game, yes combat wasn't exciting, but that game was not about it's combat, it was about it's story line.

Drakensang is one of the best traditional RPGs that ever came out. It is a niche game for the old school table top fans.

FFXII was not bad, I've been a huge Final Fantasy fan forever, but I do think that the series started to suck after the 9th one. X was one of the most horrible FF ever, and FFX2 was the followup to that horribleness. FXII was not bad, but still not on par with the classics. But in terms of gameplay, I don't really understand how you can compare DA with FFXII.

I do understand the comparisons to NWN or Baldur's gate, but to Witcher, Drakensang or FFXII? Come one guys, it's like saying that GTA is the same as Mario world.

Also someone said that the plot was copied from LOTR. A lot of fantasy books since before even Tolkien was born had that same plot, good guy comes into the world, big evil trying to take over, good guy tries to reunite all the races, etc. What made Dragon Age unique in terms of storyline was not the big picture, but it was all the details, the characters, your relationship with these characters and events.

If you think that there is a lot of cut scenes and storyline, then you should be playing ROLE playing games.

Most people find Angelina Jolie the most attractive woman, some will say that she doesn't do anything for them. But if we are talking facts, then Angelina Jolie is a beauty, one of the most beautiful women alive, you not liking her doesn't make her less beautiful.

The same goes for anything in life and in games. Dragon Age is a great game and it deserves all the hype and the great reviews it got. You not liking it doesn't make the game bad.

    Peace

    This thread is so stupid.

    Dragon Age is freaking epic.

Yes I know It doesn't have the freedom of Gothic or Elder Scrolls but since when was freedom a requirement?

Dragon Age has an awesome storyline and really awesome combat.

I enjoy a whole bunch of rpgs and I don't shit on a game due to lack of free roaming.

Oblivion, Mass Effect, FFXII, Dragon Age, Risen & Fallout 3 are all rpgs and offer a totally different experience.

Get over yourselves and understand that not every Rpg needs to be like Morrowind.

I don't think it's as good as BGII but it has the same feel combat wise.

Grey teeth??? Whaaaaa??? I see white teeth, I think it is your computers, I love the dog...he is kinda huge but I love him, what a little love bug! He is suppose to be a war dog, not fluffy. I see nothing wrong with the hair or the characters or the textures.

What same story? From where??? You get to know your party, people, all sorts of things. You get to become close, they are like a family. Everything you do in the game effects what happens later on and what happens to your party. Each race has their own origin. Human Noble, Dalish Elf, City Elf, Dwarf Commoner, Magi, Dwarf Noble..I believe that see that also effects on how you will play as the certain character. It is great fun, it is very interesting, a story makes the rpg...without a story you got nothing, just battling. Battling makes the game, without battles you got a novel.

Ill give the haters this much, DA:O graphics while good certainly let me down. I was expecting Mass Effect quality and I got something slightly better than Jade Empire.

Still graphics aren't everything and I'm sure Mass Effect 2 will give me that bleeding edge graphics fix I need.

Oh one more gripe, after playing ME why wasn't my character fully voiced in the conversations with NPCs? Did they run out of funding? same goes for the codex? Voice overs in codex and convos puled me into ME and would have done wonders in DA:O.

Other than that I think DA is wonderful. IF i gave it a rating it would have gotten a 9/10 while ME deserves an 11 and game of a lifetime awards lol.

Bioware stumbled just a bit with this game but not by much.

They toned down the graphics just so they could easily port it to the XBOX 360 and PS3...but why would you be voiced? It is your own work...I really haven't seen a made character voiced other than in Guild Wars and that is barely, most of the time you just nod your head. In ME, he/she is really pre-made and only need 2 voices. Now if we get into how many voices we needed just to voice our characters, each is unique, it be nice but a lot..especially with each role and how you would act. I don't even think you had a voice in Fable 2...

All they needed to do was give each race two voices one for male and the other for female with a good voice actor like in ME and it would have been golden.

Honestly I don't even notice DA voices during combat I would rather it been more cinematic like ME.

Well, it would of been nice. I'd do it for free, haven't done voice acting for years XD but I would of done it....I think it would of made the game even better than it already is but I also believe they should of revamped the game just for PC players, made it look better. I mean...it doesn't have to look like it does just because the 360 can't handle it or the PS3(though I doubt the PS3 couldn't), but I mean I don't see grey teeth on my characters or any characters..and it doesn't look like crap but it could of been better even if it was just for the PC players because they pushed the PC players aside to make the console people happy(got nothing wrong with consoles I happen to own 3 XBOX 360s, a PS3, and a Wii...lol).

no matter how great a game is there will always be someone who hates it.  Everyone tells me WoW is great and i find it to be not worth playing.   That is why there is more than 1 game in this world.  We all have different tastes.  I find DA to be great.  I would like for some things to be different, like for instance the ability to walk the roads between places and have more than just one, if that, encounter along the way.  However, it is not something that makes me hate the game.  Perhaps if they had included that it would have taken away from the storyline and the relationships among the characters.  I love the side dialogs between the characters, especially Morrigan's little asides, and Sten's terse comments.  It is like actually being there for me, but then perhaps I have a better imagination than some. All in all it is a gem of a game.

I know it would have been work but the game would have been so much better with it.

Developers will need to push the 360 and Ps3 harder, we wont see new consoles for atleast four years.

As long as Developers like Bethesda and Bioware want to make money they will have to work extra hard to get more out of these consoles. Need to use some console developer wizardry. It can be done we've seen it in other console generations.

    PLaying: EvE, Ryzom

    Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum
