If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude; greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

Pretty Obvious tbh considering how the Moon and the Earth was formed.

Where the Moontians lie in wait, ready to respond to that preemptive attack.

The moon is the ultimate hill.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.

The day we colonize the moon is when the countdown timer begins for us having no moon. It's no secret out planet's resources are being used up faster than can be replaced. Human beings act as viruses. We enter, incubate, multiply and destroy. There is no cure.

Why should we pay to colonize the moon. We pick up the tab and only the rich get to live their.

I think we should close down NASA, we as people don't get anything for it !

Oh, jeez. That's hardly a revelation, isn't it? And a rather cheesy analogy at that.

Apparently, NASA has tracked over 1,600 technologies designed for space travel that are now used in everyday lives.  Things like more dependable life rafts, better surgery proceedures, new solar tech, ect.  I know space exploration costs a huge amount, but NASA does do a good job of sharing the tech it develops for use by us here on Earth.

NASA's advancements are used in everday lives all the time. Funding NASA you are funding advancement in science, research, and you are also funding jobs because there are thousands of people (17k+) employed by NASA that got higher education for that type of jobs.  Plus space is still a vast unknown to us humans, so looking into the unknown is at least worth while.  It means they're searching for answers.

Studies show you would get 10x the bang for your buck if invested directly into those areas.

In other words, you can invest 100 million in NASA and get 10 million in medical tech benefits.

OR you could simply invest 100 million in medical research anbd get 100 million dollars of medical Tech benefits.

Seems rather inefficient, don't you think, if that's your justification for the money.

I'm into science, technology, and space, so imo it's not inefficient as they're striving to answer questions we still have yet to answer out there.  But I know people who are only business minded or not into space science probably have a different point of view.  Which is fine.

I do think they need to fund research into all areas that could use improvement, and currently they are.  I guess the difference is really just the budget.

Would be cool if we could visit the moon during our lifetime.

  • delete5230delete5230 Member EpicPosts: 7,081

You'll never see the moon, Nasa will never allow it. But your tax $$ will pay for the rich !

  • MunkiMunki Member CommonPosts: 2,128

Wow some of you sure are bitter and callous.

If we get people on the moon, that's just cool. We need to expand, and as you all know; Space is the final frontier!

I find this to be extremely ignorant. NASA has been one of the greater deliverers of knowledge and images that are beyond value to humanity, and that goes beyond any kind of class barriers. When they do things like investigate other planets in our solar system for the sake of doing so, not for any particular goal or profit, it is a testament to their existence because no where else would such a thing be done. As far as I know one has as much access to general information as another.

Colonizing another world is progress, and I don't think it will be limited to simply the uber wealthy if only because they wouldn't want to live alone on another planet. I could be wrong there. But still, creating barriers to the advancement of humanity serves no one.

First of all, I rather believe this is BS. Take a look at the auto industry. There is no good reason why we should still be using the vehicles that we have, and on the crap roads made of concrete and asphalt that we have. Look at what happened when we gave the telephone companies billions of dollars for the purpose of updating their lines and systems so that we could essentially have free ethernet for everyone... where did that go? It just didn't happen, they found ways around it.

NASA has done a lot for us and humanity in general, much that is priceless, beyond giving us the technology that we use in our day to day lives.
