Fallout 3

IbluerateIbluerate Member Posts: 256

I plan on buying Fallout 3, but I've got a few questions about purchasing it.

First, if I buy it from D2D can I download it, then split the downloaded files in half and place them on two disks that can each carry 4gb of data, then when I'd like to install it again in the future I can just copy the files from one disk onto my computer and then copy the files from the other disk onto my computer and install it that way instead of redownloading it?

Or

Is there a website that allows you to purchase a game disk, but also download it so you do not have to wait for the game disk to come in the mail?

And yes I know I can go to the store and get it, but I'm to busy to and don't have a form of transportation to get to one.

Also, I've seen some people who dislike Fallout 3 on this website, if you dislike it, please don't post in here unless you plan to answer either question.

Just buy the "Game of the Year" edition from Amazon. It comes with all the expansions and will get to you in a couple of days

    You're probably right...

It's a shame I can't get a download for it and buy the disk.

Have to say this though you have probably already heard this but Fallout 3 is a masterstroke of a game and the expansions just add more to it. So yea get the game of the year addition get those graphics as high as you can and wander the DC wasteland an see what you can find!

I wouldn't go that far, it could have been alot better if they had stuck to 1 & 2, because those were masterpieces. It also would have been alot better if they had used a different engine or built their own, I mean Fallout 3 really deserves it. You can really feel the oblivion engine in it and they did a good job making it geared towards Fallout, but the original Fallout was so different than anything else that's ever been made. Besides it's clones like Jagged Alliance.

Other than that, it was a damn good game.

Problem is those were isometric Top Down games made in the days when games like Baldures gate was around. Back them they were great as most similar games were fantasy clones, and Fallout 1 & 2 were very different story wise. Now tho Fallout 3 was changed to fit the current Gaming Audience with a story and setting to 'Honour' the games past. So yea it is a Masterpice of modern gaming.

Well, what I meant is that. They could have done alot of things different and been a little more original to convert the iso to true 3D first person.

If you buy from D2D you wont get a disc copy, but you can download it as many times as you like. Plus no shipping or sales tax added to the purchase price.

I personally like having a disc as well. But here lately I have been using D2D alot more just due to the savings on gas to the store, plus the no sales tax. Usually saves me 7-10 bucks or so when its all said and done.

And I can go to their site today and redownload a game I bought almost 2 years ago, dont have to worry about losing a disc or whatever.

    Just my 2cp

Oh yeah and fallout 3 rocks, get the goty edition for sure, many many hours of fun to be had.

Yeah it sounds like you are concerned about having to store the install files on your computer forever, but like jdnewell said you can download them as many times as you want, so you don't need to store the install files on your HD. Just download, install, then delete the install files. And if you uninstall the game and then want to reinstall and play it again in a few years you can just download the files again (as long as D2D stays in business, I guess).

I agree completely.  Fallout 3 is by no means a bad game, but is clearly NOT as good as 1 and 2.  And it has nothing to do with it being 3D or whatever.

In other words, Fallout 3 is an Oblivion clone.

I don't care what people call it Oblivion clone or whatever. It's the only post apocalyptic game I have ever been able to feel immersed in. I actually felt part of an apocalyptic world

The only criticism I could put on this game is it was too small. If the world was bigger it would have been perfect.

Yea it was essentially a Oblivion clone. However it was a Oblivion clone where most of the problems encountered in Oblivion were fixed. The only gripe i have tat i share with Oblivion tho is the size of the gameworld and the artaficial bounderies the game had such as a river in the city part that i was following one day then i came up to an invisible barrier, or the way some of the collapsed buildings were obviously there to make travel in the city parts take longer.

Fallout 3 + the world and content size of Morrowind would equal greatness. But I still prefer FO3 over FO1 and FO2 gameplay-wise.

And outside of the engine, it was hardly an Oblivion clone. Oblivion every mob scaled with or to you. In FO3, go too far and you get your ass handed to you by a higher level mob. And the V.A.T.S. system was definitely NOT from Oblivion. And the perks actually were worthwhile and in line with FO1 and FO2. And the crafting was a hel of a lot more fun than Oblivions alchemy bullshit.

Have to agree.  As big a fan of FO1 & 2 as I am.  I have to say, I enjoyed FO3 more.  OP buy a disc version.  I've heard alot of mention of people having problems, with mods & digital downloads.  Means you might miss out on fun things like my baby, the G36E Rifle:

A bit offtrack, but anyone know any game (not MMO) at least remotely similar to Fallout 3? Gameplay-wise. But not Oblivion.

I have reached lvl 30, finished main quest, all DLC's, all other side-quests complete, and I am now wandering aimlessly through the wastelands, uncovering all locations (previously marked with Explorer perk) and hoping to find some other quest line...

Better to be crazy, provided you know what sane is...

Cant really recommend anything.  Might want to take a look at Divinity II: Ego Draconis.  Alot of people seem to like it.  (I didn't think it was so great)  Also could check out www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php AQuest for Heaven is a pretty decent for Fallout 3.
