WHAT THE?!?....Dragon Ball Online???

Wait a sec...  Okay... So how many people have heard of this Dragon Ball Online?...and how come I havent?... Apparently it's been in developement since like '07 or somethin in Japan and South Korea...  Is it not going to see a US release?...  I mean I havent heard anything about it... not even any posts on this site as far as I know...

Does anyone have any info on it?...

It's been mentioned quite a few times, the game just doesn't appeal to people here so it's not thoroughly discussed.

I don't think it's real. Because if it was i doubt they'd have picolo's special beam cannon saying "skill namekish". Also if it was truly being made by the man himself, i doubt there wouldn't be a ton of commercials everywhere like when the dbz episodes were rereleased remastered. Also they have some link to some random voting site? That's not common of an indevelopment mmo. It might be real, but since it's being developed for the korean market and not the us market at the same time that it is for the japanese. I have little hope in this game.

See it's being made by the koreans. And we all know how many "great" games that are made over there turn out to be. I mean just look at how "in depth" all of those games are. If it was originally made in japan then yes i'd say it might have a chance at being decent.. Now since bandai's publishing it in japan who knows maybe this random korean company that no one's ever heard  of before might do something. I doubt it though since 99% of the time random korean studios just end up makign grind fest games.

Since the entire dragon ball series is about fighting. Yes it probably would be a 'grind' so to speak. But the key thing to remember is teh story. The amazing story and the extreme action. Since their "mmo" seems to be using the same graphics they used for the latest dbz game that was just released here, i'm unsure as to how well it'll be.

In terms of quality, think of Star Trek Online. We all know they're not going to be able to capture the good ol' feeling of the entire series. As it's impossible for them. They're going to take "path of least resisitance" when they're making the game. Considering how in depth and expansive that the DBZ universe is. For them to honestly make a half decent dbz mmo. They'd have to spend a good 7 years on it. They also will probably be knowing that most of the english speakign world will expect voice overs everywhere. Since they're setting it so far in the future. Roughly 216 years after the manga. I don't even know how that's supposed to be working but hey let them do it. They're doing that so that they don't have to bring back any of teh iconic figures which makes DB DB for us all. So there goes the old nostalgia feeling for us all.

 

Personally, i doubt this game will be even "good" so i'm not going to get my hopes up on it.

i see your point totally...when i first saw it i was unsure if it was real too...but i thought i'd seen if anyone else had heard anything about it...

This game has been floating around the "Rumor Room" section for quite a while now. You might want to check that section at least once every couple weeks for info on upcoming MMO's. Most are crap and not-so-subtle shills but you will find out stuff like this as well.

From what I heard as well, you cannot play a Saiyan in the game. So if you are looking for that in DBZO, you might be disappointed.

yeah i read up on it as well, you can't be a saiyan in the game. the game takes place in the future from the series where there is no saiyans left.you start out as a kid like in the show and you "grow up" as you level. the game is real there is videos of the gameplay from Gstar, i do think it will have some appeal for the US but not as much since you can't be a saiyan.But since Akira has alot of control over how they use his IP he's making them stick to the story to a point atleast, because i did read there is missions where you go back in time with Trunks and take part in those epic fights with cell,freeza,Buu ect.

Just an FYI since I've actually been kind of watching this game.  It is indeed quite real and fully sanctioned.  Akira Toriyama specifically did the designs for the game and it recently had its first beta test in Korea.  As for whether or not it'll be released to NA or Europe, I doubt it and it will likely only be available in Asia since the game is far too specialized and focused on a single property that isn't quite as large here but I'm still curious about finding a way to actually play it at some point.

i think it would have a decent following here, DBZ was huge here back in the day and those people are now in the age group thats into MMOs. i use to love DBZ back in the day till we started getting better anime with better more engaging stories. i think everything about DBZ says MMO, them training (exping) to get stronger (gaining levels). has alot of potential and its the one IP to go MMO that i know fully in advance so might give it more staying power. it was the most popular anime of all time over here so i think alot of people would be willing to give it a try. now not saying it was the best, for me that title goes to the NEW Fullmetal Alchemist :Brotherhood series that just started coming out this year or so (34 eps as of the other day), but i don't see that as MMo  material at all.
