The Path Ahead is reopening its doors, once again. Because of several unfortunate circumstances we had to can the project for several weeks, before restarting it anew. Our goals have not changed, nor did our spirit. We welcome all members, old and new alike, to join us at our guildsite.
I hate WoW because it made my plush hamster kill himself, created twin clones of Hitler, punched Superboy Prime in reality, stared my dog down, spoiled my grandmother, assimilated me into the Borg, then made me into a real boy, just to make me a woman again.
I already play Saga of Ryzom. If you decide on that game I will gladly join up with you. I am always looking for team members to join up with. It's a fun game. *hint hint*
I guess I did not make it clear enough. As of now, we're once again choosing a game, for several reasons. You can check our forums to learn more, or PM me here.

I do not completely agree about the "new" part, but that is left up for debate.
Basically, new system goes like this - there is not vote. I personally choose a council out of several members and together, we decide what's better for the guild, based on player feedback. As long, as the discussion is ongoing, players are able to leave their feedback for games and general wishes for game style (PvP heavy, lore heavy, what have you) on the specialized section of the forums. That's the gist of it.

If you're looking for a new "adventure" then I would seriously consider Anarchy Online. The game is old and the graphics are definitely lacking but there are tons of things to do in the game and it is not like most MMO's out there.
When levels are gained points are given to players to raise their skills with. This allows for completely open character development that is capped by the amount of points offered meaning, you can't train all skills 100%. Your choice of profession and breed determines which skills are easier to increase (easier skills require less points) and also how much can be added to a skill per level. Certainly there are best "builds" but the possibilities are endless. With each expansion another layer has been added to this customization. SL Perks, AI Perks, LE research and Tower buffing all allow the players to be customized further. Its really a sweet setup, fitting for those analytical gamer types. Its not like WoW where if you're lvl 15 you can wear lvl 15 req stuff. Everything in AO checks skills. If you're lvl 15 but have skills higher (from buffs, towers, perks, implants, equipment) then you could possibly use items 2-3 times your level. For people first introduced to the game it may seem a daunting a task keeping up with it all, but once you get used to the different things available to you, it becomes really fun and you start to become rather proud of the character you've worked hard to create.
AO is also primarily a group game. Especially in higher levels it is not advantageous to solo content because the experience is so low (Unlike AoC which lets you solo the entire game if you want, and with a very linear experience to boot). In AO for the best rate of advancement you will be fighting mobs much higher levels than you. To do so requires a competent team with a few essentials like tank, healer, CC expert, and support/DD classes.
It used to be that in order to level you would simply grind missions. AO was the first to create a system where a terminal would give out randomly generated missions for teams or people to do on their own time. Since the emergence of other big MMO's, Funcom has tried to create more quests and tied them to a storyline. They have also introduced more dungeons and put level caps on them so that high lvls people looking for "phat lewts" don't destroy the dungeon experience for everyone else. The only instancing in the game are rolled missions. With all the new content though, you'd be hard pressed to play the game twice or three times and feel like you're doing things over again.
Anyways, I would invite you to download the game and check it out. Give it more than an hour of your time. It will grow on you. If you choose to simply play classic AO, its free, however, once you get hooked its hard to not want to unlock the rest of the game and all the additional content it provides.
Early levels are bland at what you can do because you're starting out. Remember this game scales levels from 1-220 not 1-60 or 70. You've got 3 times as many levels to get through! In AoC I'd encourage people to get at least 15 lvls before they decide on the game. In AO its more like 35-50! In addition to this, AO has a steep learning curve that needs to be adjusted for. You can't play it 30 minutes and decide on it because you may end up not getting very far up that learning curve.
Recently a few old guildies of mine went back to this game for our "weekend warrior" type play. We designate times where we will all try and be online so that we can play together. For those that don't want to pay, AO is free and we're enjoying all the free content. For those that do want to pay to play we're only planning on leveling in Rubi-Ka but these people can still play other toons into SL and AI content areas. We're trying to build the guild up to about 12 people at least, so that we can have enough to continuously team with through the game. Some of us have 2 accounts so that we can dual box when necessary. Toons are strewn about over different levels to help keep stragglers up with everyone else. We use vent to communicate and have our old guild site available for others. We're all in our late twenties, have been around the scene for nearly a decade and just enjoy chilling with friends casually while playing an MMO.
I'm not trying to hijack this thread for recruitment but I'm just trying to point out the great opportunity that "The Path Ahead" is presenting here because its what other people like myself are now trying to create. With WoW there has been an increase in MMO players and like any population; some of the people will be like minded, while others not. I would contend that player base is one of the most important aspects of an MMO and the opportunity to form an org of like minded, mature gamers in any game is a rare one. I encourage you all to get on board with this if you are realistic about the experience you want from a game. The best experience is that of community, teamwork, and helping others, not personal pride from getting "rares" or "phat lewt".
If anybody has questions about AO you can message me here or in game. Some of my characters names are: Ficksterama, Porv, Prolifix, Thereamer, Entevenr in order of my likelihood to be online with them.
The game is finally decided. The Path Ahead is officially moving to Allods Online, the day, the servers are finally open. Until then - feel free to visit our forums and join in on the discussion.

Hello, I'm new to the site and I'ld like to join your idea, I'ts been a while since I'd been looking for a more mature comunity to play with (for some reason, I can't find one since i decided to go back to play mmorpg's, I just played Aika for 2 weeks). I also was going to play Allods when it's release, so it's better now. I already join the guild portal so I hope to be welcome...
Ps. I'm a latin user (from Venezuela) so if you see any mistakes on my writing I'm sorry, is because it isn't my first language.

This sounds very interresting. I would love to join along with my wife. Forums seem to be down so I will contact someone in game or when the forums are up.
Tragically, gpotato seems to be intent on killing Allods online with insane cash shop prices, 6 to 20 times higher, than the Russian version. The Path Ahead is already looking at the alternatives and unless the whole debacle will be fixed soon, we will refuse to support their wallets and will migrate to a different game.
Stay strong, Pathwalkers. We've survived this once.

. I see a lot of people on these forums are disappointed by the community in modern games, in the lacking grouping and the fact, that most modern MMOs are shallow, while there is no one to play older ones with. Why don't we use the forums creatively? Let's make our own little clique, find an older or a less-popular game and explore it together? Come on, there are quite a few of us, we could make this work! Find common ground, and things like that. Who's with me?
I have a suggestion...and it isn't meant to be snide or snarky...although I know it may come off as such at first glance.
Why not follow your initial instinct, which was so interesting that it garnished a ton of quality responses here as well as a "sticky". Am I surprised that Allods disappointed? Not really, although admittedly not for the reasons that I had thought it would.
Following your recruitment message above, and judging by the amount of votes earned, why not give a game a try that would accomplish two (if not more) of your goals:
1. Find an older, less-popular game with tons of exploration potential.
2. Experience the benefits of an older online community.
Now I realize that a "sandbox" MMO is not an idea that has caught on in the MMORPG genre (save EVE), but this offering has so much to offer for a new group of players who would be willing to work together for a common cause.
Please take a look. It has a full, 21-day free trial, along with a very affordable subscription rate, and graphics and a world environment that will amaze (if your machine can play at highest settings)

It was on of the games we considered. Unfortunately it failed to catch on with the community, thus it had to be overruled. Now, I, personally, would LOVE to play this game. But I cannot dictate my will upon the others.

Not by much from what I discern from your OP. The "++" represent votes, correct?
It appears that only Vanguard and EQ2 garnished more votes.
Ryzom received 12.
EvE and FF got 11 a piece.
Now, I'm just going by your OP, so I may be lacking complete data.
Whatever the case, I would like to add my vote for Ryzom, and also express interest in joining your community in whatever game you choose as long as it fits your initial criteria!

Ooph... It'll be hard to explai. Yeah, those were the votes, the initial ones. We've gathered top-five, ran through trials and re-evaluated our choice, based on that (and another vote which, admittedly, got kind kinda botched). Yes, and it should be listed as a negative the same it was for EQ2 and DDO.

Come...
to Ryzom!
It was on of the games we considered. Unfortunately it failed to catch on with the community, thus it had to be overruled. Now, I, personally, would LOVE to play this game. But I cannot dictate my will upon the others.
I hate WoW because it made my plush hamster kill himself, created twin clones of Hitler, punched Superboy Prime in reality, stared my dog down, spoiled my grandmother, assimilated me into the Borg, then made me into a real boy, just to make me a woman again.

Best of luck!!

Ooph... It'll be hard to explai. Yeah, those were the votes, the initial ones. We've gathered top-five, ran through trials and re-evaluated our choice, based on that (and another vote which, admittedly, got kind kinda botched). This was two months ago, we're now looking for a new game once again. You can join us at our
siteand join in on the discussion.
