I hate WoW because it made my plush hamster kill himself, created twin clones of Hitler, punched Superboy Prime in reality, stared my dog down, spoiled my grandmother, assimilated me into the Borg, then made me into a real boy, just to make me a woman again.

I would be down for trying something like this out

Don't really mind what game is chosen.  I have played quite a few of the listed ones but wouldn't mind revisiting some of them.

You're in. We're still in "decision" state, so some input would be preferred.

    Excellent. Count me in.

If we're going in as a group, makes sense to pick something that benefits from a strong group.  Classic DAoC always interested me.  DF is great but everyone needs to be aware of the big time commitment - and no trial, of course.  I vote for something that has healthy pvp and pve.  Ryzom sounds like a good possibility.  My sense is that Eve would be tough for a new corp unless we hooked onto a larger, established one, which might dilute the spirit of this project.  I'll try anything, though.

My leanings: AoC, AO, Ryz, DAoC

I think we should really try to do our own thing. "Dillute" is a good word in this situation. If we collecitvely join another guild/clan/corp/whatever, a lot of people will just be absorbed into it, without giving us the thing we seek.

Ryzom really sounds good, so does DAoC classic. But we've just started - something interesting may turn up.

    Anyway, welcome to the team!

If I understand you correctly, you want us to start our own guild in whatever we join. I'm totally for that if that's what you meant, would be awesome to start a guild in a game where all of us are brand new, Never done that before and I feel it would add a lot to the experience.

If we stick together we could make it work in EVE, as a small corp, and I'm sure we can grow steadily. And next expansion looks really cool, with avatars and all. It's a damn serious game to start something really worth it.

And  14 day trial, and first month for just 5$ in Steam.

And, possibly, our own site, if the thing works out.

Anyway, I'm off to sleep for now. I'll see to the thread in the morning. I'm pretty positive, that we can start this thing by the weekend, if not sooner. But let's not hurry things up too much.

You're absolutely correct. We're basically replicating the early MMO experience - we don't really know each other and we don't really know the games, we're looking into. This can get pretty good.

Don't worry, it's a democracy. We'll go by popular vote and a good discussion of pros and cons.

If I wasn't already dead set on playing FFXI (check the forum title) I'd jump on this as well.

In my opinion, if your joinbing a game as a group.. eliminate all the games where you can solo most of it and play a "Grouping" game. Just my 2 cents.

We could, actually. That's not that bad of an idea. But still, we must consider other possibilities. That's what discussions are for!

I'll probably play FFXI anyway, even if it's a side thing. Just love a lot of things about the game. And I'll still bug you to play with me, from time to time. Deal?

Thank you for adding me. Now a few cons n pros about AO since i know the game well enough.

+Lots of endgame . (Raids, "farms", pvp(faction vs faction vs faction))

+Most of the PvP is open in fields even for the unlimited trials (free accounts-"froobs")

+Lots of parties socializing and a dedicated non profit radio for the game (GSP)

+Different leveling systems that allow alot of content ( XP , SK , AXP , research)

+The games raids (or most of them ) are as of Late instanced.

+(-)Hardcore twinking (Implants,Symbiants, Buffing gear, Buffs, Anything you can think of to wear a piece of armor perhaps 100-150 quality levels above your level)

-The community is less mature than it used to be and dwindling (PoV)

-The free account content is repetitive instanced missions (worse than CoX ones)

-The full account content is still repetitive through missions for each system (XP/SK/research, AXP)

-Lack of Auction House n variants ( There is a similar function- Global market for paid accounts- but emhmmm)

Thats some i can think w/o trying to hatchet the idea of AO (despite personal feelings)

Thanks for the input on AO, that could really help!

FFXI is about the only game, that has unseparated servers. They're worldwide, which is pretty awesome.

Anyways, I'm off to sleep (I'm worse, than Eurogamer. I'm Russian gamer). Keep the thread rolling, I'll sort it out in the morning!

Deal! If you guys go with FFXI for some strange reason I'm down. Also, take into account that FFXI will be something to keep you busy til FF14 which I know alot of people are waiting for. Maybe those who have never tried it before, this would be a good chance to do so. Just throwing out ideas.

Just helping man. I already co-GM a eight MMO cross game clan with over 1k people its basically a part time job.

Imo your best bet is something with a long trial and a game that is more group focused to build that solid foundation for your guild.

if you go for a more solo centric game people will scatter and do their own thing.

This project sounds like just what i need.   After playing numerous trials and F2Ps, I realized I can't really get interested in a game that i have no connection to.  All the mmos i've played for any amount of time was with friends, and they either don't game much anymore or are glued to WoW.   I really would be interested in playing anything with the group.  EVE, DAoC, Ryzom and Ultima have my vote.  I really like the idea of open world exploration and group based progression.  Being able to craft things for one and other and helping each other learn sounds fun.  Starting something from scratch that i know nothing about is super exciting, even if the graphics are blah.

I've always been into raids and and world pve more than pvp, a game with good PVP would be a plus since i have never really experienced a good pvp group.  The only pvp I have really done was in WoW (not much of a fan).

What's Pay By Cash? I'm not familiar with it.

It's an alternative way of paying for subscription time without the usage of credit cards. I don't have a credit card though, so I would prefer to use this system. Which is why I wouldn't be able to play Final Fantasy, because I heard you can only pay by credit card, which is a pity, because I really would love to try the game.

Let's make it simple, list 3-4 games from the list, you're interested in, and give the reasons why. We'll work from here.

Out of the list, my favourites would probably be EVE, Ryzom and Everquest 2 (since I just found out that I can pay using game cards). I already have a subscription to EVE, but after hearing about Ryzom and it's open-endedness and roleplay options, I would really be very interested in trying it as well, especially since it has a free trial. And as for Everquest 2, I've heard a lot of good things about it, so I would be interested in trying as well. I've been rather interested in sandbox games lately for some reason.

I guess I wouldn't mind Age of Conan either, because I actually have the game installed, just not patched yet.

    Main characters:
    Jinn Gone Quiet (Guild Wars)
    Princess Pudding (Guild Wars)

The games who interests me the most is Vanguard, Istaria, Everquest 2, Age of Conan and Ryzom. I used to play conan a lot at release, but it's been a while now.

I will tell you right now, that EQ2 has an absolutely abysmal "trial." Now...having said that, it's also the game I'm presently playing, and I love it. BUT....the trial is not at ALL a good reflection of the game. You're stuck on an island that is no part of the actual game world, and limited to level 7 or 10 (I don't recall which), but either way....it's not a good example of what the game is BEYOND this "island."

I guess it's a good way to see the game's native UI and maybe see a few of the features, but you won't see a guild hall, any housing, how achievements work (they're NOTHING like WoW's achievements....in EQ2 achievements actually matter and increase your characters skill set). You get these AAs by accumlating AA points for everything you do. You can even turn OFF xp and put all of your adventuring xp to AAs, if you choose to "freeze" your level and build up your character a bit before leveling further. But....you'll see NONE of the coolest things about EQ2 by doing the trial. The trial is a huge FAIL on SoE's part, in my opinion.

So while I would definitely not discourage people from EQ2....as a matter of fact, if everyone showed up and wanted to play on Everfrost server, I could easily get everyone into one of the large guilds ON the server, which is a great bonus in having access to a lot of master crafters, a beautiful (and HUGE) guild hall, tons of amenities, and it's a VERY nice and helpful group of 350 some odd people.  But as I was saying....I wouldn't discourage EQ2 as an option, but EQ2's trial....just really....blows.

Of the games mentioned, other than EQ2....I would be interested in re-trying pretty much any of them. Yeah....add me to the list. I think it might be fun to play a second game with the MMORPG crowd!  Biggest problem I foresee for myself is that I've already "used" my trial period on most of the games mentioned that HAVE a trial....but oh well. :)

My four choices of the list:

    1- EQ2

I really just love EQ2. I kind of feel it's a bit of a "cheat" for me to include it in my four, because I'm not going to LEAVE it to play something else, and I'm already playing it. :)  If we all choose another game, then I'll just have to figure out a way to swing another sub to something, which usually isn't a bid deal, but...it's Christmas time and all. Meh...I'll figure it out. :D

    2- Ryzom

I don't think I gave this game enough of a chance, as I never got out of the starting zone. It seemed to have promise, but I had no one to play with, and the people that were on when I was playing, didn't seem too outgoing. I'd like to give it another chance.

    3-LotRO

(which would actually be more of a "returning" for me, being that I already have a lvl 37 minstrel and a runekeeper)

I kind of feel like listing this as one of my choices is about as much of a "cheat" as listing EQ2.  I've played it enough to know I like it, so....I wouldn't hate a return to it.  LotRO, has the most beautiful landscapes of any game listed.  I have to admit though...the housing system is horrific, and the crafting at higher levels is tedious because of the materials you need. But there was plenty I enjoyed here as well, predominantly the quests....GREAT quests. The PvP crowd might not like the way PvP is set up though, because it's called "Monster Play" and you're actually a monster, not "yourself," so it's....different....fun....but not a real "hardcore PvP'ers" idea of PvP, I don't think.

    4-Vanguard

Mostly because I think this game needs to be given another chance. The world is WAY TOO HUGE for me to hit this one up solo, so I'd love a group of people to explore this massive place with.  Again though....I've used up my "trial," so I'd have to just sub outright.

    Honorable Mentions:

    UO and CoH or CoV

I've played UO and CoH, but it's been a DAMN LONG TIME for both and I rather wonder what they're like now.  UO seems like it would be REEEEALLY hard to start from new at this point, and CoH or CoV....either of those might be a tie with my other four, to be honest.

My personal list of prefference would be :

    1) FFXI : Never tried it and it could be fun *

    2) Eve : The above reason

    3) Vanguard : Cause i am subbed to it but i just cant go nowhere without regular teaming, is the nature of the game as i see it , although soloable i suppose in most parts, I just cant cut it alone.

    4) Ryzom : Just because it seems very open ended.

P.S. I wouldnt mind any of the other mentioned !

    * I just bought ffxi and installing it just for the sake of having the game (even in digital form)
