I don't like the Russian part of it, since I'm not russian. Probably just as much as you wouldn't like American Seekers. I do like the Russian word for Seekers though.

I also have one important point about Free Trials. If we're not going to choose and stick with a game, and instead we're going to try out several games on the list, then I feel that it's going to screw a lot of people over. Some people already own practically every game out there, such as myself, so creating a Free Trial will only cost that person more money if he's to stick with the character that's on the trial account (the cost to buy the game again). To use his old account to create a new character would require a subscription. So either the person is havign to buy the game again after the free trial to keep the character that's the same level as everyone else, or that person will have to subscribe, which is a bad idea if we're intending on doing Free Trials for several games.

Although many may disagree with this, I would rather us choose and stick with one game. I'd rather spend another week discussing which game we'll play, rather than play each game for 14 days and then quit.

See, with games like EQII and EvE it's easy - a lot of people have played those and know, what to expect.

VG, FFXI, Ryzom, even EQI... Not so much. I'd say we trial the games we don't know

And except for EvE, all the games on the list cost about 20 bucks - just five bucks more, than your regular sub. Not sure about Ryzom, but no one is sure about Ryzom. That's just thing about it.

True, now that i think about it. Prikljuchentci (Adventurers)  sounds stupid... What about, uh... Some wordplay?

I hate WoW because it made my plush hamster kill himself, created twin clones of Hitler, punched Superboy Prime in reality, stared my dog down, spoiled my grandmother, assimilated me into the Borg, then made me into a real boy, just to make me a woman again.

I think Adventure Seekers is fine. Something about the word 'seeker' gets my attention and I have not seen it used in any mmo so far.

I dont think it should matter too much what we are called so long as we get our adventuring going. I say lets jusk keep it simple, and move on. I'm sure everyone will be fine with whatever the op chooses.

The Pub, maybe? "The Pub at MMORPG.com"

Or some wordplay on that. I do think we should relate it to MMORPG.com, instead of having it be generic.

    EDIT: Pub, not pube. >.>

I kind of agree with this.. Here's my take.

I own every game on the list except for EVE and Ryzom. I've trialed every game on the list at one time or another. The trials almost never give me a good idea of what the actual game is like, or else I wouldn't have subscribed to any of the ones I wound up subscribing to. The trial for EQ2 is probably the worst of them all, because its capped at level 10, and depending on race your trapped on a tiny isle for the duration. Not really that great of an indicator of how the game plays.

I'd say, that everyone should look at the games in the list, and if there are some you haven't tried.. take it upon yourself as an individual to download the trials for the ones you have never played, and try them for yourself. I don't think its something the "group" should do together, because.. there won't be any "grouping" to be done on a trial.

Won't get much done, as I'm off to sleep soon. So I'll leave the thread rolling until my morning and decide by then.

Here's what we should do - set up our own forum, get people to trial voted games (some parts together, if they're willing) and have a discussion about what we will need. Then dump into 1-2 games together. Anyone disagrees?

Actually, the EQ2 trial gives you all content, now.

Also, "Adventurers" or "Seekers" is much too generic. How about "Avatar" or "Avatars"?

My vote goes for anything sandboxy :) like good'ol ultima online that i hear of for so many years.

The fact, that there is no trial IS a problem, since the game is not everyone's cup'o'tea (could be mine, icedentally). But we may consider it later.

I'm amazed, by the amount of people interested in this.

This is one huge blunder for Aventurine, imho. . .not offering a 7-day trial period at least, for Darkfall.  This goes for any mmorpg, particularly those from more independent developers.

Setting up our own forum is a good first priority. The second thing we could do is conduct some polls to see the level of interest in each game. Trials don't typically convert to active accounts that include every expansion there is, while many of us own the latest expansions or close to the related expansions on many of the above games. It's only worth buying the trial account if you get the entire game with all its expansions for around $15/mo.

Anyways, once we poll everyone to see which game wins, we can then poll everyone to see if they'll play the game that won. We can then poll everyone to see if they want to trial the game that won first, or just buy it. We're bound to loose some people along the way; those that aren't flexible in the game they'll play. However, I bet many of us just are attracted to central idea of this entire thread, which is to play an unfamiliar game with others who are unfamiliar with it, to capture the sense of adventure we miss in games where it's just us and the experienced community who wants to tell you when and how to do everything.

I personally will wait until everyone settles on a game before joining this thing. I'm not going to jump around one trial to the next, because I've either played the game already or I know enough about it that I'm sure I'll like it with the right people. Take Everquest for example. I've never played it, but I've played EQ2, DAoC, and Vanguard. I've also read plenty of reviews and threads on EQ, so I can imagine what it's like to play that game, since a lot of the experiences people speak of I've experienced in other games. So if everyone decided on EQ, I wouldn't try it, I'd just buy it.

There are some things I'm concerned with, that has sort of been brought up, but mostly people were beating around the bush. EvE is a slow game, where you spend the majority of your time solo grinding whatever for ISK. The only time the game gets group oriented is when you're PvPing or doing something that'll get you killed by PvPers, such as mining. It'll take several months before we're ready as a Corp. to do any sort of organized PvP, which leaves us with soloing for ISK mostly. So I think EvE is a big fat bad idea, because that's one game where you need to join an established Corp to do anything interesting in the game.

Then there's EQII. It's too much like WoW, LoTRO, and AION in the sense that it's a solo quest oriented game. There are group dungeons, just as there are in WoW, but from my experience, you just solo the majority of the time until higher levels. It's definitely nothing like what I heard EQ was like, which is where you go exploring with a group of people, xp grinding along the way.

So Druzhina Iskateli? What does that mean again, direct translation? I agree about the Avatar point. Everytime I hear Avatar, I think about that kids show.

Nah, just "Druzhina". They're two different words, not really compatible.

And to your previous point... Yeah, I kinda agree on that. Seems like the best way out. Good thing we've got so many people interested, though - we can reallywork off from that.

Is it too late to give my vote?

    If not here it is:

1- DAoC : So many good memories there with a great community (I'm sure most of the people I used to play with are long gone now).

2- Vanguard: I played the trial and it was pretty fun, it reminds me a bit of old EQ with a bit of WoW thrown in there. I could see myself liking the game.

3- It's a toss up between Eve Online and Istaria(Horizons): I'm leaning a little bit more towards eve though because it's going pretty strong with 500k subscribers and I don't know how much better Istaria is now then it was at launch.

    Im thinking this one

Ryzom seems to have a lot of what we want. It's definately more group oriented. There arent many quests that give you xp other than the ones in the starting zone. It's more of a sandbox style mmo since one can pretty much do every single job in the game with 1 character.

The game is free to download so no need to go out and buy it. I checked their website and for 11 bucks(US)  a month, its actually a pretty good deal.

I know the population is pretty low but i figured since we are making our own mini community it shouldn't really matter much.

This game seems to fall somewhere inbetween FFXI and EQ2 as far as time commitment/difficulty goes.

You're welcome to the team. And we're still picking one-two games to stick with, after we filtered all the rest. The forum is going to be onlinje tomorrow. Well, MY  tomorrow.

Of the games that won, VG, FFXI, Ryzom and EQ1 ARE, to me, the most intriguing because of my limited, or in the case of FFXI...nonexistent...experience with them.

I wonder of those games...is there any ONE of them that NONE of us have played before? The only one I have zero experience with is FFXI, but my experience with VG, Ryzom, and EQI, is also really limited. Not so with EQ2 or EVE...for me....I know those two games pretty well, having actually played them both for a length of time.

Was there one (or more) of the games that won, that stood at as having the fewest number of us having any real solid experience with?

I would think it would be good to determine that, and then...I'd vote that we start with that one that we have the least exposure to, as a whole.

EDIT: After re-reading the entire thread....

I'm really feeling Ryzom too.  I was really interested in it at one time, but because I had no one to play it with, I never got out of the beginning zone.  It's not expensive, it's definitely "sandboxy." It has some draw to it I can't quite explain. But I think if you've never been in the game at all...you'll feel it at character creation. I remember thinking..."gee....THIS feels....different."

I also remember the UI was a bit odd to learn, it reminded me of EQ1's UI, for some reason, although at the moment, I can't remember why. Suffice it to say...it doesn't have the generic MMORPG model UI...or at least it didn't a couple of years ago.

I'm still feelin' a "burn" for Vanguard and EQ1, however, as well....

I can hardly wait til you decide so I can start getting excited more....lol. :)

If it's not too late I'd be interested depending on game chosen. I tried Ryzom and really couldn't get into it mostly because of the cartoony graphics I think. I've also subbed or trialed pretty much everything on the list also. My faves are

EVE (because it's a high quality game and avatars are coming)

Vanguard (loved this game, played from launch for about 12 months, fantastic open world dungeons all over the place)

EQ (played at launch for a couple of months, would like to give it another go)

    AC1 (this could be good)

    Istaria

    DAOC

Won't try EQ2 (was subbed for 3 years) AOC (cancelled sub last month and am taking a break) Final Fantasy (always wanted to try it but don't have the required commitment)

Anyone for SWG? Although I feel dirty saying that after what SOE did to it,

I'm in if you'll take me. I'm still searching for a new game to settle in.

I'd be up for Everquest 1 (have one of the collections sitting around somewhere), Final Fantasy XI (have the Vana'diel Collection 2008), Ryzom (never had a chance to really get into it) or, honestly, I'd even give EvE a try given I played with the right people.

It'd also be cool (but I doubt it'll happen) to see everyone in a game with low population such as Rise or Jumpgate. However, that's just my flight sim junkie taking over when I say that. xD
