(Sorry this was my launch day rant! It had to be done... also, since the only real way to verify anything ksmith says as untrue is to pruchase the game, I am going to say he is infact an employee of QoL, and a very clever one at that. He knows the depth of hate people have for this game, so by telling them "tons of people" are playing is it goading them into purchasing the game at the reduced price just to check thus giving QoL more money and claiming higher numbers than they should have. Very clever indeed.)
Lol, says Mr "I've been registered for 3 more days than the guy I'm having a go at".
I can't believe some of the shit that spews from the mouths of cretins about games they've never played. We get judgements from haters saying that the game is over-priced and shouldn't be the same price as WoW, and then when QoLs marketing goes along the same track they get dubbed as desperate, all by people who looked at a couple of screenshots and noticed the similarities (albeit obvious) between trees in Alganon and those from the Barrens in WoW. That pretty much qualifies people to STFU and do some research or at least try the game before spouting opinionated drivel that no-one cares for.
Attacking the launch also draws a chuckle or 2 from me. When I picked up WoW about 18 months after it launched it STILL had massive stability issues that almost made me give it away. Comparitively, from what I hear, Alganon's launch has been relatively smooth for an MMO.
Finally, I've never understood why fanbois (i.e wankers) feel the need to come to a forum and trash a game and its fans. Are they actually threatened by the fact that people are playing a game they've chosen not to like? Don't get me wrong, play the game, do a review and highlight the flaws, that I care to read and it may actually sway my opinion far more than the nonsense I just read in this thread.
No ones threatened its just how mmorpg.com works you should know that by now. People hate on EVERY game. Look at the names its the same people who apparently have a strong hate for mmo's
Lol, says Mr "I've been registered for 3 more days than the guy I'm having a go at". I hear time is important in arguments, it's a fact! Therefore people who are 100 years old are always smarter than people who are 25. I can't believe some of the shit that spews from the mouths of cretins about games they've never played. I played all through beta, but congratulations on assuming. Would you like an award for failure? We get judgements from haters saying that the game is over-priced and shouldn't be the same price as WoW, and then when QoLs marketing goes along the same track they get dubbed as desperate, all by people who looked at a couple of screenshots and noticed the similarities (albeit obvious) between trees in Alganon and those from the Barrens in WoW. Or by people who played the beta and realized the only difference besides the map and the ability for classes that should never tank to tank, is a study system and a library that allow people to do what gain almost nothing and have even more (albeit buggy) handholding? But, did you play the beta? Did you report bugs only to see them last all the way through beta including talents that still don't work? That pretty much qualifies people to STFU and do some research or at least try the game before spouting opinionated drivel that no-one cares for. The only person qualified to STFU would be you, assuming that you never played the beta and have no intention on playing the game, you are certainly defending it hard enough. Or making baseless accusations backed up by no research, I wonder which one it could be... Attacking the launch also draws a chuckle or 2 from me. When I picked up WoW about 18 months after it launched it STILL had massive stability issues that almost made me give it away. Comparitively, from what I hear, Alganon's launch has been relatively smooth for an MMO. You hear from whom? Who are these magical fairies with wings floating about telling everyone how smooth the launch is? From what I heard people who preordered (they got charged full price and monthly fees at a higher rate than people buying it on launch) the game got screwed, there is massive lag, some items from pre-orders never arrived, servers are not stable and so on... but your magic fairy is probably better informed than mine. You understand you are on a forum right? This isn't a review site, this is a forum. People come here to rant, complain, praise and just about anything else you can imagine. If you want to play the game, well it's only $20 and $9.99 a month to sub, why not go do it? Then you can tell us all about the magical adventures you have in Failganon.
(Sorry this was my launch day rant! Ok so your attacking a person for assuming the game is bad, assuming he has never played it, and also assuming the launch and game is perfect, while at the same time you have never played the game too? Irony at its best.
Quite honestly, it doesn't take much to keep a game on life support, so there's no reason this game couldn't hang around for a few years.
Maybe a a thousand $10/month subscriptions, as well as some smallish cash infusions from investors already in the hole tens of millions of dollars.
If I invested $1,000,000 into something, and another $10,000 would keep it around for another year to give it a chance that it doesn't currently have, I'd at least give it a shot.
Alganon will stick around for a few years, but I could see it on life support/minimal new development within 3-6 months.
That said, I wish them good luck and I hope they manage to somehow pull something off.
It will last long enough and have enough "box sales" to give the investors a return on their investment. Possibly a minimal profit. That's all these companies do these days.
...You're joking, right?
Games like AOC and WAR didn't get enough "box sales" to get their production money back, and they both had just under 1 mil sales in the first month
I didn't say box sales alone. It will last exactly long enough for box sales + 1-2 months (or whatever the developers think will be long enough) for the investors to get a return. After that, who gives a crap? The goal was met.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.
I'm gonna say about 6-12 months. I know the development cost, and the cost to maintain it have to be the lowest in the industry. I'd say they are aiming for a minimum of 10k subs. That's 100K a month in fees. They may even be able to get by with a lot less than that.
I agree with Palebane. This game will probably be around for years and years. I've noticed it takes a lot to kill off the smaller MMOs (just look at Darkfall and Vanguard). Once they get just a slight return on the investment, all they have to do is keep the game on life support, which means paying the server fees, and having a two or three people cobble together a patch once or twice a year, while paying them minimum wage.
Another somewhat unrelated example of what this game reminds me of is all those game console knockoffs from China, like the Gamestation and Chintendo Vii which use technology from the 70s. They keep churning those out, despite how crappy they are. Yet someone must be buying them.
I really, really hope this game fails, because I don't think a developer as unoriginal as this one should succeed, but they probably will. There's enough fanboys (aka, suckers) out there to go around. Its the big projects in the tens of millions of dollars like Tabula Rasa, Hellgate: London, etc, that fall hard. Warhammer's next.
I expect Blizzard will shut them down for stealing art assets from the game. I could find no license agreement made with Blizzard for the obvious elements they took from the WoW client.
I don't know if the game is good or bad since I never could play it, IT ALWAYS CRASHED BEFORE I COULD!!!!, it crashed before I could create my character, with patience I logged in again and again and managed to create it, later it crashed when I tried to log in, I figured out the server was full I changed server and logged in again and again but always the same: THE GAME CRAHED BEFORE I COULD AT LEAST GIVE SOME STEPS ON THE WORLD. Crashit game, that is what this game is. I always gave the game a new opportunity again and aganin, tried patches and make I don't know how many things to get it working. My computer exceeds the minimum requeriments so I never knew why after 50+ log in attempts I never could get in the game. Do I need to play it to know this game is garbage? I don't think so, do they really think I will give them $20 for that piece of trash? The release of the game was a move of desperation, since they need to pay the bills and have not the money to wait more and polish the game, adding to this the holiday rant. The game is broken believe me.
The game, on your particular hardware configuration, is having issues. That hardly constitutes as broken since it runs perfectly fine on my hardware and all the other people that are currently logged into the servers playing. They fix a crazy amount of stuff each patch, maybe the launch day patch or the most recent one solved your problems... Who knows? Once the trial servers are up give it a try.

As the game's current state, players are more like employerS to keep those people in QoL employed. Funny thing is, some of the WoW illegal servers probably have more players than Alganon...lol

I cannot believe the audacity they have to create and charge top dollar for a WOW rip-off. Honestly, what on earth were they thinking. They've basically copied someone else's hard work and are trying to make money off it. It's indefensible.

So that's what the people who paid the higher pre-order costs get - a working game client! Most of the chat on regional is people asking why it's laggy or what to do to improve perofrmance or stop the crashes. We must have all paid $20 after the launch, and therefore got an inferior game client...
What server do you play on? I'm on Adrios and earlier this evening I used the social list to find out that there were only 10 people logged in on the human side. Yesterday there were 40 but it was much later when I was playing. I hear that the other server Hokk has even fewer players.
The patches haven't solved the rubber-banding of mobs. They haven't solved the lag. They haven't solved the lacklustre performance. They haven't solved the tonne of content bugs that are there. They don't deal with support queries they just close them or hide them where customers can't see them.
I'm gonna regret saying this considering the anti-Alganon vibes but I like some things about the game. I want to play it but I can't bring myself to play for more than half an hour a day. You can't enjoy a game when it has so many problems

And this is exactly what we have been saying for the last 2 months? Essentially QoL created Alganon to be like a Shit Clam. The exterior of the clam is pretty much the same as any other clam, the UI in this case being virtually identical to WoW, as is the game play experience. Then in the inside of the clam, because they were more concerned with the outside, is filled with shit, layers and layers of acidic shit. Bugs, lag, lack of support, and so on. Then in the very middle of all that shit is a small pearl, no bigger than a fish egg. Those are the concepts that made the idea of Alganon good, but because of the concern with being a WoW alternative... you are left seeing those ideas being slowly erode by the acidic shit. They have to clean out all the shit before they can make a good game. Essentially, you are paying for an early beta of a game, and yes in time, maybe it will be release worthy but, how long?

After all these years we have yet another half baked project by Mr. Allen I was a beta tester in Horizons and have heard this song and dance before Now as to where he manages to find such naive investors I would truly be interested in <smiles mischieviously>
Hmm sign me up..I can use a little extra money as well

So that's what the people who paid the higher pre-order costs get - a working game client! Most of the chat on regional is people asking why it's laggy or what to do to improve perofrmance or stop the crashes. We must have all paid $20 after the launch, and therefore got an inferior game client...
What server do you play on? I'm on Adrios and earlier this evening I used the social list to find out that there were only 10 people logged in on the human side. Yesterday there were 40 but it was much later when I was playing. I hear that the other server Hokk has even fewer players.

Darzin -- A Gnome in a Night Elf World
After all these years we have yet another half baked project by Mr. Allen
I was a beta tester in Horizons and have heard this song and dance before
Now as to where he manages to find such naive investors I would truly be interested in <smiles mischieviously>
