Interview: Darkfall's Tasos Flambouras

Paragus1Paragus1 Member UncommonPosts: 1,741

I managed to get Tasos to answer some questions on the eve of the next expansion's launch.

You can find it HERE.

Enjoy!

Thanks for the interview, really appreciate it.

Good to see they are least looking at offering a free trial.

If I ever am to enjoy DFO again, I must force myself to completely forget that Tasos has anything to do with it.

Tasos usually have at least one lie in every official announcement. Someone should make a "Tasos lie collection" wiki entry or something.

    I will likely resub though~

Well, a tile on the floor of my house just received a lot of unexpected publicity.

I don't know, the interview seems a bit poor, as Tasos talks a lot of waffle. My suggestion would be to make interviews longer whilst doing more, shorter questions.

Instead of allowing him to talk a lot.

Anytime I see his name in an interview I start to cringe but that was focused and not bad on paras part. Good deal and will be interested in what the expansion does for the game. I resubbed today on my own and met a couple nice folk in the dwarf area. Will look forward to logging in again on Friday.

You should atleast start to respect tasos because he just proved in his part that he really start to listen to his player base like no other company do. Other rich company only answer questions from the proffessional because they are all sell out.

Never really realized it before this, but magic is getting shit on hard haha. I Knew the GCD and stuff, but Mage Killer skill extensions, LoS. Oh jeez, so glad I maxxed my archery.

I actually did ask him more questions than the ones you see here.  Some things are only to be revealed in tomorrow's patch notes, and others have been already hashed over at length on their official expansion spotlights.  Regardless, I am glad he spared some time for it as he is very busy with the expansion about to roll out.

Come on, Tasos is a former greek adonis so give him some slack.  And just convert you heretic, you know you will. You got the tingeling feeling inside, but are to proud to change. Just do it, we need more players so we'll forgive you.

This is also true for the rest of you infidels.

I cannot be a heretic because I already bought the game, remember?

I want a good sandboxy game. However, I am very burned out by playing at release. I keep on following what's happening, and I might resub once some important things that I want come to fruition. I'd never avoid a game for pride or spite. All I want is to have fun, on my terms.

And I laughed at the Adonis bit

I was like you after the transfer fiasco.  I was not going to buy the game twice when I was led to believe I wouldn't have to.  Then AV came back with awesome news with free transfers until Dec 5.  Since being back I have been blown away with all of the improvements.

Strix you're coming back baby, I don't think there's anything stopping you after the incoming "update".

The question you asked in 2 is something I'm pretty stoked about.

There are quite a few reasons why I haven't started Darkfall, yet. This is one of them. I think I understand how the skill system works and I don't like how magic always seems to be the dominating factor in almost every video I watch. I don't want to play a magician, I don't like magic, I would play a game with 0 magic in it at all.... so I don't want to be forced to use it in combat. My favorite character type to play has and always will be a ranger or a thief or a combination. I like range the most, but I don't like magic and I like lesser armor, higher speed, and either faster dmg or higher dmg. I have fast reaction and excel in FPSs, sometimes to the point where they aren't even enjoyable. Who wants to play a game where there is no challenge? Which is why I like well done MMORPG PVP.

And really, how can a game be sandbox and not multiple viable options for combat?

Some good news in that interview. I hope Darkfall starts making even more headway towards the game that they promised for 8yrs, they are already working on it so it seems.

Totally agree with you on the magic bit. Don't know what it is but I have zero desire to fire off colourful spells. Thank hell they're gonna address that tomorrow, and make it less of a necessity.

AV is definitely heading down the right path, and who knows maybe we'll see you in game someday as well.

Do a little research about what he said during Beta and the hype days. He was condescending, flat-out arrogant and liked to blow his own horn quite a bit. Also, the public announcements during early launch were mostly revolting.

At least, for my tastes. YMMV.

    Yeah, same here.

An arrow and a fireball can be exactly the same thing mechanically. Do the exact same dmg, have the exact same cool down, aim the exact same way, EVERYTHING exactly the same.... except one is an image of a fireball and the other is an arrow. I still don't want to shoot the fireball. Don't ask me why, I don't know, I just don't want to shoot the fireball.

Thanks for that interview, nice to see a Developer (who is actually working on the game) taking time out to talk to a player like he's an actual human being! Too many times have we all seen how over the years Developers have become more condescending towards their own playerbase.

This expansion looks like alot of fun!

The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

I find not playing a game because of how the staff acts to be pretty funny.

They should just go play the other game, I wouldnt be intrested in them playing here on DF anyway.

I think Hello Kitty is out!

Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

I don't need to do the research. I was there. Most of the stuff he said was spot on. Most of the problems came from people taking vague words and drawing their own conclusion, then when reality didn't match their personal fantasy, they screamed "liar liar!!".

If I had to deal with the type of trolls that plagued Darkfall pre and post release, I probably wouldn't have been remotely civil.
