Well I played DFO when the NA-1 server launched, started about a week after and played for the free month. My main problem with the game and reason for quitting was the ridiculous grind on crafting/skills. As well as a lack of players to be found.

I was thinking about re-subbing with the latest expansion now released, since I left(was like 4 month's ago I believe) how much has changed on those two points? Is the grind less now? And has the population increased or decreased from what people can tell?

Also my skills were mostly in archery and two-handed swords(around 30-40 in each), and crafting/gathering(100 on gathering for stone, like 60ish for wood, and 100 in tailoring/30ish in weaponsmith). Will I still be competitive since the server has been up so long since I quit? I remember I was able to kill a lot of people I ran across or at least have a pretty decent chance.

Another common problem I had was the lack of a skill cap, or specialization which seems like they kind of implemented now unless I am reading the patch notes wrong.

I still had a great time back then even if it was for a month, joined a clan and helped take a city and remember turning red and having to camp the ork area for a new player(after 2 days I turned red because someone looted my tombstone after a mob killed me, then I killed them lol). Anyways thanks for any advice!

Grind is a lot faster now.

You can change server and possibly be competitive after 2-3 weeks.

Your skills can still be used but you will not be as strong as the majority. Find a clan and that should fix the issue.

There is no skill cap. Specialization is here to make players focus on certain things (Mage killer disables most magic trees except greater magic/witchcraft/lesser magic but increases damage against staff-wielder.  Side-Step reduce your total mana by 5%, etc).

The game is a lot better now and the Expansion made it even better. AV still needs to patch some bugs though which should be taken care of this week (as they mentionned)

Thanks for the reply, there is a few other questions I have as well.

Is there a Auction house type of thing implemented yet? I saw there is a player vendor type of "gnome" added, has anyone tried using this yet?

I had also rolled a Human, and noticed new racial skills. Would it be wise to just reroll, as the Dwarf skills seem much better than human(I am more of a melee/archer type than a magic user).

No AH, I haven't used a vendor yet. Not sure about re rolling, if you don't mind getting your char up again I don't see why not.

Im not sure about re-rolling. The beauty of the system is that while some races have advantages and disadvantages it dont count too much if your player skill sucks. All races have something good going for them, if you rolled a human keep him and push on IMO

There is no Auction House. I believe even AV agrees, it would kill the market and make it risk free.

Player Vendors are somewhat different since houses and villages have LOCAL BANKING instead of a Global one, meaning that if you want your gold in a different bank, you'll have to do the runs a few time :)

Thanks again for the replies, guess I will just keep with my current toon(really don't want to raise tailoring to 100 again lol).

As for this local banking, houses now have banks? And local banks at that? That's awesome, always thought that would be a good idea. Can people come in your house and loot your bank though or how does that work?

All villages have a Bank.  People can come into your house but can't steal anything. Houses cannot be destroyed BUT the door can. To acquire a house, you must drop a House Deed from a Chaos Chest (randomly generated chest all across Agon) , from mobs or buy from players. In both care, it's a very rare drop.

Clans can own a village, meaning that you will pay a certain amount of gold every now and then (I believe it's 350g).

Well just subbed and patched/logged in and forgot what I was doing over 4 month's ago lol, but anyways I have a few questions.

I want to mostly go archery and melee, what skills will I need to be competitive for PVP(been a while, and I realize there are many new skills). My archery appears to be at 37, 2h at 18, and sword 29 parry 32. I realize these are fairly low, but back when I played I mostly did gathering/crafting(skills for those in the 50-100 ranges). This time around I want to do some PVP, since I have good crafting skills for decent armor.

    Thanks for any suggestions .
