A picture (in this case a video) is more than a thousand fanboy tears
A small clip about the real state of the game few weeks before launch. Go ahead, be my guest and buy it.

Well done and I really doubt they launch this year or even before february next year.
At least it seemed more stable than my UO days. No 24 hour server reverts. No restarting of servers for servers for weeks.
Mortal has I guess more than 1000 bugs, but did you know that UO's AOS expansion also introduced a 1000 new bugs . So whatever mmo developers can throw at me EA did it to me first.
:P
I don't think anyone would say this game is ready for release.
It still could have potential.
How much like all games, is up to the developer
How impressive! Collection of bugs from the beta and some even from very early stage of it. Anyway there are still some of them, and even if most of them stay at release it do not change the fact that some peoples prefer game play over pixels.
If you prefer crap but polished games there few around... What are you doing here?
Where themepark games try to hide that they are copying WOW, games like Mortal Online and Darkfall make no attempt to hide their inspiration

This video wasn't made with any bias or anything. *rolls eyes*
Its not hard to go in a game thats in beta stages and make a video of bugs. In fact, I could of probably made a video like this for every game in the beta stages.
Give me a break. pfft.
Sad thing is, this is what I've maintained all along, and that SV is not able to deliver the game as they put it down on paper because they simply don't have the expertise, experience, talent, or leadership.
They have nice art and sound though. But that doesn't make a game.
Exactly, you only need a couple of art designers who are proficient in Maya or 3ds max to make the assets they currently have. The scenery is also simply created using the unreal engine terrain creator which is so simple a child can use it. The actual game itself and the code base behind is just terrible.
Everything they've done so far with that game can be done with a mod, perhaps minus the server architecture, although, that doesn't look that amazing either.
Maybe you guys need to go work for SV on MO.
Clearly, you are the experts in the field. You must all work for the best game company in existence now and forever Blizzard.
IMO.
The problem is that SV is trying to get people to buy a game based on the assumption that they know what they are doing.
People keep pointing out, and people keep feeling, that they got ripped off by a bunch of amateurs and inexperienced folks. I think some people feel that they don't want others to make the same mistake, and thus the debate here and subsequent YouTube videos. Hell, the one above is just one of many that show the game in a negative light. You don't think that everybody is a troll that hates the game, do you?
Amagad! A video of bugged mobs in a beta! What have the world come to!
Don't pay to be an Alpha tester. From everything I've read and all the research I've done on this game, it's not in Beta yet. They are just calling their Alpha stage beta and making people pay for it.
If you wanna pay to be a "beta" tester, I got a great game for you that I'm working on. Just send me $49.95 and you'll have first grabs on a game that is the most unique experience you've ever seen in an MMO. The entire world is craftable and landscapes can be changed. With exciting mob AI that matches that of the best players in the world. The entire world is a living breathing ecosystem with so many features that you'll never be able to see them all!
Did I forget to mention that this game is set to release in 25yrs? I don't think I did.
Heh. Seriously, don't pay to be an Alpha tester, even if they do call it a Beta. This game could be amazing, it could be revolutionary, but the thing is....... everything is just a promise right now. So many games have promised so much and not a single one has brought even half of what they promised to the game. Any game, ever. Even WoW and EVE.
I do know one thing though, when something charges for something that's not done....... it RARELY comes out as planned.

Look I am not saying that I think this game is going to be good or bad, who knows.
All I am saying is that I find it funny how easily people pick a part a small company that is actually making a game. If someone here is an actual expert that IS employed in the MMO industry (for a successful company) and commenting on the actual field (there are a lot fields) in which they have A LOT of experience it is one thing. It is something altogether different if someone is a self proclaimed expert in the field.
This is a legitimate company and of that there is no doubt or we wouldn't be discussing it. Are they a good company? Is MO going to be a great game? Is it actually going to make it past beta and be released? Who knows and in either case it is subjective and speculative.
DFO was supposed to be crap according to most people just be vaporware and as far as I can tell is up and running and may outlast more main stream games like WAR or Tabula Rasa. If I had to guess, before both games were released, I would have thought WAR would far outlast DFO. Right now, I think it is the other way around. But that is just my opinion based on playing WAR and reading abotu DFO and could easily change if I ever play DFO. Similarly I didn't think EVE would be as successful as it appears to be.
Guessing what is going to happen in this industry is a crap shoot at best.
I am not saying anyone that has PLAYED the game and is in fact and expert shouldn't express their opinion. Just that to many people around here claim things as fact based on nothing more then conjecture.
Also, until a game is released and has been around for about a year (assuming it makes it that far) it is always hard to tell what is going to happen to it. Hell even after a year for most games it is hard to tell.
BTW, I really know little of this game other then what I read on the forums here.
From what I read it seems to need A LOT of work to be released. But who knows, I haven't actually played and to post you do if you haven't is foolish.
I think the real test of the game will be how the server handles heavier traffic load and also if the PvE AI can handle a heavier load.
Everything else are features you can implement slower and afterwards, but these 2 are core features upon the whole game depends.
There is no MMO without bugs and after what EA threw at me with UO I can say that MO is decent enough and I cannot really complain. I still bought the game just for their vision to make an updated UO and safe myself the work to emulate UO myself with a server.
:P
The bugs actually didn't seem all that bad, and all should be fixed fairly easily. I was actully impressed how far the game has come along since the pictures I saw last. The graphics and environment are looking good, and really give me an Elder Scrolls: Oblivion feel. I still will probably not play this game, but I am impressed by how they have done with it. Once they get those few bugs fixed up they might have a good chance of doing well.
Honestly I think the bugs are the least of SV's concern. Their beta event with ~200 people or less basically was unplayable, and people that log on nowadays find the game horribly laggy.
12k people signed up and bought the game -- I dunno how SV is going to solve that crisis in the near future.
Ohhh noooo.....bugs in a not released MMO!
Run to the hills.
HAHA say that to the Aion fans
Wow I can't justify paying $60.00 for that. I'll wait a few more months and see what happens!
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
You forgot the part where it's supposed to launch this month.
SV is trying to get people to buy the game so that they'll have more money to continue development before they are forced to release the game. Financial problems is a common thing for indie developers, especially one's that take on a big project, like developing a MMORPG.
SV has always been upfront about this fact. They have always said the more money they get from pre-orders the longer they'll be able to continue pre-release development. When people pre-ordered, SV gave them beta access as sort of a "thank you for your support". They never claimed beta would be bug free (that would have been stupid), instead they stated several times that it will be a rough ride.
As for the people who feel they got ripped off, nobody forced them to pre-order. As I mentioned before, SV was very clear that beta would not be a smooth ride, secondly, the money people payed was for the release version of the game, not for beta.
A question for you tho Herc. Does it make you feel good when you go all over gaming forums and badmouth MO and SV every chance you get? A small group of developers took on a very ambitious project, and sure, they may not have the experience to get everything right on the first go, but they are trying. What is so bad about that? They have been upfront and honest with the community, at this stage they have even lifted the NDA so everyone can see where the game stands and make up their own minds. I see you've taken it upon yourself to do as much as you can to damage the credibility of SV and their game, and I ask you, why? Are you really that bitter over what happened?
Honestly it looks promising to me. Character art and animation looked decent. PVE mobs don't look to be quite finished yet. City looked decent. I like the style.
Not bad. I do expect release will get pushed back, but maybe they'll pull off a miracle.

One man, a small pile of money, and the screwball idea of a DIY Indie MMORPG? Yep, that's him. ~sigh~
Too funny! Yeah, my feelings exactly.

A fanboy is not only someone that really loves something (to say the least), he also have ridiculous knowledge about the same thing. Few people on this forum is real fanboys, Zorndorff is the only true one I can think of right now.
See the movie "Fanboys", it will help you get it..
As for anything from a games beta: It doesn't mean anything until the game is released. All games are buggy junk from the beginning, betas are made to fix junk like that. If they release the game in crappy shape it is another matter but right now this is nothing to worry about. I am not sure this is a game for me but I do like what I read about the crafting in it...
Too funny! Yeah, my feelings exactly.

It's not the point of bugs in a game still in beta stages, it's that the game is slated to release relatively soon. If you think major or drastic changes will occur between now and the launch date, you are sadly mistaken as I direct your attention to the same argument from WAR fans during beta. There are still bugs/performance issues existing since launch in WAR, and people still argued that the game would be fine for release let alone now.
I've been anxiously awaiting MO, but if they're serious about the game and want it to succeed, serious development needs to occur between now and launch which means pushing the release date back. It will have a much better time of surviving as opposed to the early launch of death.
This isn't always the case, though. Darkfall was in production for so many years and it still wasn't pushed back far enough to have a stable launch. I hope MO turns out differently.
The next big patch will be after Dec 17th. I will be interested to see what they get to work. This patch will let everyone know if and when the game will have a chance to launch. Personally I hope they don't launch for 2 or 3 more months. They should get this patch in to see what works, then decide on the open beta date.
I like the game world and the ideas of MO more than DF. There is much more freedom in the MO world. The problem will be the same as DF's launch. What will work and how much will be missing. The game is not ready, but I am willing to play anyway knowing what to expect.
How many people long for that "past, simpler, and better world," I wonder, without ever recognizing the truth that perhaps it was they who were simpler and better, and not the world about them?

Why are people in an uproar about bugs in the beta? Your favorite MMO that has been released for years and has a 200 man development team still has bugged mobs, imbalanced combat, and graphical errors. God forbid a game still in development should have them.
Then if you actually played the game, you would realize that most mobs arent bugged. killing wildlife shouldn't be touted as "the pve content" because its not. Killing them gazelles is harvesting, not pve content. The only pve content is the minotaur, they will keep the final pve mobs secret until the last minute. All we can expect is to test enemy AI.
I like how that video shows other people sparring and not the actual camera man participating in pvp. You dont know what they were doing and every pvp encounter you witness will be different. Those guys could have just been testing weapon damage or attack speed for all you know.
If you are mining for hours on end then you made the choice to do that, no one is forcing you to be a gatherer. When I play the game I go around the continent looking for people to interact with, I look for bugs, explore, tame, look for unlocked houses and whatever I want. When i do mine/lumberjack I do it in moderation, when they enable depleting nodes gatherers will be doing alot more moving around.
My sig is just as logical as your posts are
