I think the most important question here is: The the beta tester report all ther bugs he/she found making that video? That is what a beta tester should do. Complaining about it only tells everyone you are a lousy player.
Maybe SV will make a similar video about lame testers! LOL
Thanks! I was looking for some beta footage. I'll be comparing beta to the game after it's released (perhaps a year after release) to show how things have changed. Your video will be very helpful in my campaign to promote MO.
Who would of thought that so many people were capable of telling the future?
All the kids bashing have some sort of hidden agenda. Why would anyone listen to the people who COME TO THE FORUM to bash a game? You really think they just come here because they are nice guys and want to warn everyone? Of course not.
"THE GAMES GOING TO FAIL BECAUSE..... I JUST KNOW IT WILL" Let me know the winning numbers for tonight while your at it.

Some of us are here to debate the merits of the game too. And why we tell others to be wary of what they are 'buying' because it is not a fully functioning product. It is in beta, of course... the contention and speculation from both sides is that it either will be ready at launch, or completely crap. Time will tell either way.

The problem Hercules is that most hater simply say : This game blows, nothing can save it, it WILL FAIL!!!
Then on the other hand you have (most) fanboy (let's call them that way) who have a more sceptic approach (I know I do) where they can see it's an unfinished product but It HAS potential and COULD one day become a great game.
Maybe it won't, maybe it will, things can't be black or white at this stage, in a year or so, we will be able to tell if the game is a complete failure or it's on the path of acheiving something great. Until then it's only speculation...

A turd has potential to become manure. It doesn't mean that it's a great evolution either.
I'm not saying nothing can save this game. That's simply untrue. An intelligent team with good development experience, a good manager who is willing to make the 'cuts' to the game in order to ship the core features and make them shine, and having people who actually went to school for programming to help understand a software development life cycle rather than a kid who made mods for Unreal and has temper problems, and having a team that as a whole, understands the purpose, benefit, and reason for each phase of alpha and beta tests.
This simply isn't the team to deliver the amazing experience we have on paper. From all accounts, this is a team who has no previous development experience *at all*. Not a single person on the team. Now, the art in the game, the level design -- it's gorgeous, it really is. The animations are good (at least in FPV, outside view they are horrible) and the concept of the game is good too -- because it's largely stolen almost entirely from Ultima Online. Not that I mind that
But good artwork and animations do not a good game make. Look at the problems they are facing -- horrendous lag, they opted for client-side hit detection in an MMO, bad framerates, and their core feature of "PvP Combat" is mediocre right now. Honestly, I think that with a concerted effort and the right leadership, they could manage to get the PvP combat into a state that is fun and deep -- but it would require a lot of work and would also come at the expense of other systems in the game. But these are choices a good manager makes, and a good businessperson.
On paper, I think this game is the one I want to play. The reality however, is something quite different. My hope is that if they fail out of the gate, that the project will be bought for peanuts and resurrected by an experienced team. Honestly, if I had the resources to do it, I'd buy the art assets from SV and create an entirely different vision. But I feel that those that bought into SV's vision on "paper" are sticking with them despite all the problems that are occurring. I feel bad for them, but that's why we are all here to have an open debate about it. Unfortunately, when I, or others that share my POV make a point, the fanboys go into attack mode and it's no holds barred -- attack you personally, your family, your life, whatever -- and from what I've seen only the fanboys have stooped that low -- at least the folks you think of trolls stick to talking about the game.
Sighs. I am almost jealous on you. How do you get all that time to sit here and talk about MO from a professional view. Why don't you create your own game then if you are that good and we will see how it ends up? I would be happy to try it out if you get there!
Everybody has of course the rights to talk free about this, but seeing you bash on MO/changing things into the worse way in every single new thread here are getting tiring.

When my dad buys me a gaming company, I'll do just that. Till then, I'm simply not funded to create such a project, nor do I have any project plan or idea on where I'd like to go with it for a new IP.
My skills lie mainly in taking existing projects, understanding their ultimate utility, and streamlining the effort. Sadly, it applies to financial products lately but the concept is largely the same regardless of industry
Feel free to look up the business definition of Alphas and Betas. This game has not even entered beta yet (even though they call it so) and it is about to launch in a month.
The developers are still working on creating major content in the game. They are unsure of how to conceptually design their world and their gaming features. They seem to be in an improvisation stage of their development, which is really bad.
The game is not yet feature complete, not even close, and as such it can't be defined as a beta.
A beta is used to test completed features and builds to see if they are going to work well in a release product. A beta is used for polishing and bug fixing, not content upgrades and additions.
In MO, they are still busy adding/creating large parts of the world, new mobs, sounds and armors as well as crafting systems and UI graphics, artificial intelligence, physics, graphics and various other systems. The game is in fact barely in Alpha.
I've said it in other threads, but this game clearly needs another full year or more in development.
I was very close to buying the game to test it, but i stopped at the last moment. I have played Darkfall and if this game is anything like it, then no thanks, I'll stick to waiting for HoT.
Is there anything to do in the game currently? other than killing each other, gathering and crafting. Is there any sort of background plot - PvE plot- that advances the immersion? Does it feel like a game at all, or like a roughly polished 'medieval simulator' ?
Clearly, you are the experts in the field. You must all work for the best game company in existence now and forever Blizzard.
IMO.
The problem is that SV is trying to get people to buy a game based on the assumption that they know what they are doing.
People keep pointing out, and people keep feeling, that they got ripped off by a bunch of amateurs and inexperienced folks. I think some people feel that they don't want others to make the same mistake, and thus the debate here and subsequent YouTube videos. Hell, the one above is just one of many that show the game in a negative light. You don't think that everybody is a troll that hates the game, do you?
looks like DF when it released...are you sure your in the right thread??? video of beta, now thats funny

It has a lot less content than DF. Does more really need to be said?
I've said it in other threads, but this game clearly needs another full year or more in development.
theres no any other MMO what comes even close to Mortal Online Beta
i like it ,Mortal Online Beta beats full games
year or more in development ,it will be even better
Please quantify how this makes any sense, and I won't say you're a fanboy.
It has poor combat mechanics. It has no content. The AI sucks. There are almost no monsters to kill, and no PvE to speak of. The UI is horrible. Most of the game world isn't "in the game" yet.
And it's better than full games? I'm open to hearing about WHY it's better, but I really don't understand how.

It's the only MMO of the niche that is being developed.
That being said, its the only option for those craving for their "uo 2.0" fix...thats why plenty of people are sticking with it. That, and huge patch notes the devs dish out every second week are giving people hope of things improving

Hey Herc, why dont you come back and try the game after the 4th of January?
The latest patch brought HUGE improvements which is clear you are not aware of. What you speak about may have been the state of the game 1-1.5 months ago.
New monsters were added. For example the water lizard, the bush pig, the sators....
The new AI seems to be pretty good too. For example the Sators (a humanoid lizard-like race) would not attack you if you keep your distance. If you come closer they will start making some alerting sounds and gestures at you. If you take out your weapon or come too close to one of their nest they will gather and attack you on sight. Pretty cool for a mmo I would say.
Combat has been worked on too but due to the server lag its impossible to PVP right now (though today Seb is comming back from his vacation and will work on the server in roder to fix the lag)
The new skill system blows everything I have ever seen. Be it theme park or sandbox.
A lot of new resources too.
New zones like the new harbour town or the jungle which is almost 1/8 of the size of the whole contenent...
The UI has been improved too.
So I guess the guys at SV even though not pros are actually listening to the community and want to make this game succeed.
Of course they seem to often lack in certain departments but is this bad? Do you think if they were such good devs they would "waste" their time and money on such an extravagant project as MO is?
What I mean is that game concepts like MO or DF often are worked on by "newbs" by gamers that ahve decided to make their own game. A pro would never start to work on such thing. THe pros need to pay 2 cars, a house , look for 2 kids...they cant work just for the idea...they need money. And a project like MO is way too risky for them...
I see people keep comapring DF with MO.
A game that has been released almost 1 year ago and has had a lot of patches and 2 major expansions....a game that has been in development for like 8 years by a company with much m ore ppl and resources than SV.
Of course it will have much more content.
But does this mean it is better than MO? For me personally MO may lack content but the game mechanics are much more advanced than DF.
Content can be added piece by piece over the time.
To change the basic game mechanics you will have to rebuild the whole game.

That's the wrong answer, sorry. DF took 8 years partly because the developers chose to develop their own rendering engine, and partly because they, just like SV, were inexperienced and undermanned.
If you still think that DF has, in its current state, much more content than MO...then I wonder if MO has any content at all.

You are right...Mo is actually a blue screen where we play with chars resembling dots...
really I kind get tired with such "witty" comments.
If you want to see what is in MO just go to youtube and check the videos...
About the 8 years, I really dont care if they need 4-8-10-15 years to develop the game. I dont care if they make their own engine or use an already existing engine.
WHat I care about is the gameplay.
DF´s gameplay is nothing like what was promised.
Its more like a giant battleground with nothing more than pvp...

If DF is nothing like what you promised, how is it unfair that some of us who read things like this:
Archery uses trajectories, meaning it's possible to shoot over walls or in fact straight up in the air hitting yourself in the head on the arrow's way down. The aiming-techniques for spells depend on what spell you want to cast. Some spells shoot in a straight line, some are like archery, some use a cone or a sphere for hit detection, others are projected onto a surface, while a few use targeting and are homing. However, we have chosen to only have a handful of important spells for direct PvP-combat. It's tempting to go wild and design a multitude of combat spells, however we want mage-duels to be about coordination, reaction and possible counters, and it's simply not possible to predict your opponent's next move if there are too many combat spells. Ultima Online is definitely our biggest inspiration here.
Feel like we were mislead? The game doesn't even come close to what UO offered in terms of combat, and their inspiration stops at them saying it is inspired from UO. There are almost no similiarities. MO combat is most like DF combat, if there's any good comparison to draw.
Don't pay to be an Alpha tester. From everything I've read and all the research I've done on this game, it's not in Beta yet. They are just calling their Alpha stage beta and making people pay for it. If you wanna pay to be a "beta" tester, I got a great game for you that I'm working on. Just send me $49.95 and you'll have first grabs on a game that is the most unique experience you've ever seen in an MMO. The entire world is craftable and landscapes can be changed. With exciting mob AI that matches that of the best players in the world. The entire world is a living breathing ecosystem with so many features that you'll never be able to see them all!
Did I forget to mention that this game is set to release in 25yrs? I don't think I did.
Heh. Seriously, don't pay to be an Alpha tester, even if they do call it a Beta. This game could be amazing, it could be revolutionary, but the thing is....... everything is just a promise right now. So many games have promised so much and not a single one has brought even half of what they promised to the game. Any game, ever. Even WoW and EVE. I do know one thing though, when something charges for something that's not done....... it RARELY comes out as planned.
For people who are playing: If you do any of the things in that video today do they still do the same things?
Seriously: Are people being serious when they say the game is more ready than UO and Darkfall???
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!
For people who are playing: If you do any of the things in that video today do they still do the same things? Seriously: Are people being serious when they say the game is more ready than UO and Darkfall???
I think they are being serious, but they are simply not in touch with reality.
The reality is there's nothing to do in the game, most systems are broken, incomplete, buggy, or a combination. The server can't handle more than 100 people total without lagging, and when two or three people are on screen, the game framerate drops to basically unplayable. And they haven't even turned on the high-res textures yet. You don't have to take my word for it -- just drop in IRC and idle there, you'll see they say the same thing I am telling you now, except they just accept it and say "Well it's great the devs are on vacation" or whatever.
All in all, in July or August the game was far more promising because it was all on paper and looked great. Now that we see what they have delivered "in the flesh" of the game, it's a great difference between what they put on paper, and what they actually created.

Words of wisdom.
