It isn't an mmo that is true, they are making the mmo, they made the single player version problably to get money to fund the mmo and even get a base for the game maybe.

What he said is true, the developers did state they would come out w/ the Single Player version first, then eventually an MMO version for later undisclosed date.  And it seems to be a top seller on Steam which means the money might be coming in nicely for them to work on the MMO version.

Now if only Runic would make a Hellgate clone, and show FSS how it should have been done. Heh :)

Q: Will I be able to play Torchlight online?

A: Because of the relatively short development window and tiny development team, we decide to focus our efforts on making a complete single-player experience. However, we are already in development of a massively multiplayer action-RPG set in the world of Torchlight for future release.

The entry here is more like a placeholder for the MMO, they just released a single-player version to make some quick money.

Actually the game is great and It had great reviews and is really fun. Quality/Price is 5 start. Probably best Diablo 2 clone ever:). Making a single player b4 the MMO was a wise decision, they will have a solid player and money to make a better mmo.

If the MMO is fun like the single player they already sold the product to me.  IRC, the MMo will be F2P.

Think of the single player game as a lightweight demo to the MMO.

Thinking hardly a mmo, but maybe "normal" multiplayer..

Wait wait wait... Maybe it's hard for you to read but i 'll try to help by highlighting the important parts:

Runic Games' Torchlight is expected to be an action RPG filled with fast-paced battles against many enemies. Torchlight MMO is scheduled to launch after a single-player game based in the same world has been out for about two years. It will be free to play with an item shop.

It is kinda badly written but i can help with it. They wanted to write:

    1. We 'll release a single player game first, under the name "Torchlight"

    2. Later on we 'll release a MMO, named like "Torchlight MMO" based on that single player game we released already

Something like what Blizzard did with "Warcraft" and "World of Warcraft" ;)

"Traditionally, massively multiplier online games have been about three basic gameplay pillars – combat, exploration and character progression. In Alganon, in addition to these we've added the fourth pillar to the equation: Copy & Paste."

I don't think you understand... This game is going to be an MMO.    The current single player game that is out is of course not an mmo.   How many players online at one time do you consider an mmo?

Its obvious you are blindly posting. Do some research and see that Torchlight is a MMO that will be out in Aprx 2 years they said.

Eqvaliser, this is why you research before you post these kinds of posts.

    I don´t share your optimism.

First I don´t believe this will be an MMO. More like Dungeon Runners or Guildwars, where the city is a chatroom or a place for grouping and the rest is instanced.
*But the devs said...* yeah, the devs said. If they already had few money for the Singleplayer-game, then what do you expect?

Second if the game goes the cash shop route, then something has to be sacrificed for the cash shop. What will it be? The pet? Vault? Enchanter? HC-mode? How much do you want to pay for it?

Torchlight is a wonderful diabloesque singleplayer game. Maybe they should leave it this way.

You do realize...the MMO will be published by Perfect World Entertainment. It is going to be an Action based MMORPG much like their new game Battle of the Immortals is.

Likely because it was on for $5 or $7 dollars at one point.  This is why I bought it.

Which is developed in Shanghai? Since I don´t know this PUBLISHER, I am not sure, what is so special about it.

I just imagine that Torchlight online will be much like Dungeon Runners, which was shut down by NCSoft (a publisher), because not many wanted to pay fot it.

You don't know Perfect World Entertainment? The same people who do Perfect World, Jade Dynasty, Ether Saga? They have a big game rumored to be going into closed beta in May called Forsaken World. Also Perfect World is in Bejing while Perfect World Entertainment was founded in 2008 and is based in California.

Perfect World Entertainment is known for the big style(cash shop oriented) MMOs.

Created by men who did Hellgate: London, were working on Mythos, oh and who did Diablo and Diablo 2...because 2 men who help found Runic Studios came from Blizzard North which worked on Diablo and Diablo 2. It is why people say Torchlight looks so similiar to the Diablo series.

Since I didn´t play Mythos (because it´s also shut down), what was the world like?

Was it like Diablo/Dungeon Runner/Guildwars or were the zones open to all ( or at least many random people at once)?
