My only concern with Darkfall is how barren the world itself is. I understand its seamless and very large but if I'm out looking for pve and/or pvp action am I going to end up spending most of my time running around looking for it?
The more I read DF I more I think I may enjoy it but I'm concerned how "empty" the world feels. Is there a lack of mobs and quests? What exactly do folks do on any given night to keep themselves occupied?
Thanks for any help in advance!

Yes - the world is pretty empty of mobs/random npcs/and quests - but it really isn't hard to find pvp if you get hooked up with a clan (even if you aren't probably not too bad).
There is a map somewhere that shows you where every mob spawn is though.

I don't know what your talking about but their are mobs ALL OVER THE PLACE. They are just placed in more logical locations than the standard mmo fare. PvP can depend on the location, however the better you know the locations the quicker you can pvp, other times the pvp comes to you. BTW the map you are talking about is far from accurate. Many mob locations are not even on there.
As far as exploring goes...are there chests, bosses, hidden locations ect. you can find with worthwhile loot?
Darkfall sounds great but I'm conserned the world may feel empty to me considering I'm coming from more mainstream MMOs. Is there really any reason to explore or is pvp/upgrading skills/grinding the main purpose of pve?

Yes to chests randomly spawning around the world
Yes to tough mobs like the red dragon
Yes to hidden locations
In the chests you can get a lot of money, housing, housing extensions, rare ore, ships, etc.

Whatever you say man - the world is far more empty than any mmo I've played. Not even a hardcore fanboy can try and spin it any other way - "placed in more logical locations", really?
I did also belive many places were fairly emty, but then i went out and looked.....and damn! There are mobs everywere!
Just dare to move out into the wild : )
I think people misunderstand when DF plays say "empty world."
We mostly mean that you can run for a long time without seeing anyone. The world is packed full of spawns and random little structures, dungeons, you name it. Its not as if you run for hours in open fields, its just that the world is so big you would need tens of thousands of players concurrently to fill it.

Is Agon a huge world ? Hell, yes !
Is DarkFall world empty ? Hell, no.
Don't forget that they keep adding new stuff: villages, wildlife, ports, sea villages, sea fortresses. What will be next ? I hope for capturable mines, woodyards, farms, temples ect. in the wilderness, local/regional banking and regional resources
Well there are mobs all over the place so theres loads of spots for you to PVE.
PVP is also all over the place.
Question is can you hack Darkfall cause its an amazing game. First time a PK'er gankes you your heart will be pumping i can guarantee you that.

What do those in Darkfall do on any given night if your not part of a fairly large raiding Clan?
What does the more casual PvPer do that doesn't have option of large-scale pvp avialable to them?

Its a Sandbox game, do what ever you like.

Yes - the world is pretty empty of mobs
This fellow apparently is used to find 40-50 mobs every 30 yards like wow or moo online with respawn time 10 secs after killing them too heh. Loads of mobs in df they are just not that thick in populations like many other mmorpg's. Keep in mind that mobs in df also have some sort of Ai its not the complete idiotic mobs u meet in the usual mmorpg's.
Concerning the op's question the world is big and it has a lot of adventuring running in the wilds with beatifull landscapes etc. If you are the type that likes the feeling of adventuring ,discovering areas ,with enemy mob camps, sort of secret places to farm mobs etc, if u liked oblivion style running in the wilds u may love it.

It is because the world is like 2 or 3 times bigger than anything you have ever played. Plus it is FFA PvP so you don't want to run into people every two feet. There are mobs EVERYWHERE, you just need to know where to look.
I think most of us are in agreement here, this game is not for the orginal poster and he should just simply move on to something else.
He has problems with some of the major core aspects of the game and will clearly not understand or enjoy the game.
(p.s. when it comes to wide open spaces :
1. I personally love the ability to realistically go ANYWHERE in on the entire map at any time. I do not like game that require you to fight your way to see something new.
2. There is plenty of things to kill and explore if you just slow down and open up the sinister Darkfall map online.

Taking into account how much more challenging DF mobs are, especially when you're a newb, I'm glad there's not huge clumps of them every 50 yards. I would never be able to explore!
And there ARE more mobs than what the Sinister map shows.
I think the world could use more simple PvE mobs like wild animals though. Even aggressive wild animals like a pack of wolves or something would be cool. Trying to defend yourself against a pack of wolves that roam at night. That would be freaking awesome.
Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN
hmmm...
we do have roaming animals now and cave bears hurt when they hit me.

I never said that none existed. I said the game could use MORE of them. Packs of roaming wolves that patrol at night would be a great addition. You could hear them howling in the distance and have an idea of where they're at. They could give chase to mounted players. The game needs more of these little additions. It's the small things that add up to make a more rich world.

I like that idea of wolves.
I think having a few different mobs at night compared to day would be great! I also would like to see night time last a little longer.
Having said this, it still should be at least a little bit possible to travel solo from one remote location to another. That said, I agree that now its actually too easy to do that.

The world is far from barren, I am not sure why people think this is the case.
Are there mobs spaced every few steps so you can not walk without running into some? No, it is more realistic then that and honestly if the mobs were everywhere like in WoW and similar then the Mobs would rule Agon and hunt the players lol.
However there is plenty to see and kill in the world. The other day I was running from Orc lands to clan city...I run into 4 different mob types (not counting goblins and trolls) and had to evade 4 PKs, 3 human and 1 a red of the same race.
So from my end there were plenty of things to kick my butt lol.
Now I will say if the pop keeps rising, we may want more camps of mobs, more so lower level mobs but a mix of them all and there is plenty of room to add that with the world still feeling like a work and not a theme park.
Exploration in the sense you are asking about is : Not worth your time.
Are there things to "See"? Yes ... tons of PvE camps, you can't hunt them though.
The random object drops ( aside from the rare/random chaos chest) are not worth exploring for.
Will you find pvp while exploring? Yes .. but again, its not worth it unless you can escape, or have a fighting chance.
Grinding is the main purpose of this game. When you do finally get to the top, or your desired skill levels.. then you can pvp and explore. Untill then .. pop a prozac/vicadin and mindless grind the same mobs.
Some people just do not understand exploring and exploring is often hard to explain.
This same conversation came up during Morrowind. Some people (like myself) just loved the fact that you can just explore for the sake of exploring. Other people said "well whats the point".
I think its fair to say if you dont like exploring in general it might be a negitive hit toward your DF gaming experience. That said, I know people who love the game but think exploring is retarded so its not a deal breaker.

Ugh, is this really the case? I played Lineage ][ for a few years and have done enough grinding in TOI for the rest of my life.
What does interest me is the ability to go off on my own, explore, equip a sword and board to bash in some faces, and try to get myself into some crafting.

here is my experience with Darkfall during the begining.
I read the game description on wikipedia and the main website for the game. I instantly got a major gaming hard on after that and was completely and totally excited about this game.
The first day I played it I went in with the assumption that it was going to be very hard and take me a good amount of time to learn how to use.
The first NIGHT of the game I fell in love with it. Ironically (bring back conversations of graphics) the art direction of the world was by leaps and bounds the first thing i fell in love with.
So what I am suggesting here is that if you like everything you read about the game from a well written document (wikipedia) than you should be good to go.
The main thing I would change about this game right now is to make the code base multicore.

Honestly the game sounds fine to me but I will never play it for 2 reasons. I am not a fan of FFApvp or first person but I hope the game gives those that enjoy that activity years of enjoyment.
