Playing a MMO? Having fun? Tips to keep having fun

First, lets say you are playing a Paladin...and are really enjoying him...thing(s) to not do, unless you want to hate the class

1. Don't visit the class forums for the class. Why you ask? Because they are usually filled to the brink with people complaining about the class, how X class is better and how Y class is nerfed and that paladins suck. This will in turn make you hate the class.

2. Don't visit the class forums for the other classes either, why? Because if you are like me, you hear about this great class and what they can do...and then reroll an alt and make it. And this goes in a full circle...and another full circle. This isn't perfect, because you can still see the class in game...but it helps make a dent in alta-itis

Now, lets say you found this amazing MMO...lets use Aion as an example, because its one of the newer ones. You are having tons of fun...whoops...you just went to the messageboard for Aion (official or/and unoffficial forums included)...you hear stacks of threads about how Aion sucks...and posts as well. Now the MMO you were having a lot of fun with...is suddenly no fun anymore.

How to fix this? Too late at this point...how to prevent it? Don't visit any Aion related messageboard. This goes for all MMOs btw...messageboards (that are specifically for that MMO) are the #1 way to start disliking that MMO you are playing.

Now, this is sort of related.

Looking for a MMO? Maybe you want to play WoW? Yet, if you come to MMORPG.com there are a lot of WoW haters...you really want to play, but all you see is people who dislike it. Well, it is good to know what you are getting into before downloading and playing...even downloading a trial takes up bandwidth and costs money to download. Sure download might be free, but you still pay for it in bandwidth.

I say, before playing a MMO...it is good to read VARIOUS sites about that MMO, and even official forums, to get an idea if its good or not. But EVEN THEN...I played MMOs most people didn't like (like Auto Assault)...and had a GREAT time. So, you need to judge for yourself in the long run if you will enjoy it or not. Watch videos, read information on that MMO...does it sound like something you would like? Well, if it has a trial, download it (I know I said downloading takes bandwidth, but its still cheaper than paying for a box and then paying a monthly fee). If it doesn't have a trial?

What if it doesn't have a trial? Well, unless you can play on a friends account...don't make a blind purchase. In this economy, every dollar counts (and other currencies too). Even if you really want to play, a lot of the times (from personal experience), I made a blind purchase and regretted it after a few days. All MMOs should have a trial before you pay...in my opinion, most games...MMO or not should.

Summary: Already playing a MMO? Don't visit the messageboards for that MMO, because then you will slowly start hating that MMO...because all the negatives being posted. This will ruin your fun in that MMO.

Before getting a MMO, read reviews, look at videos for that MMO, and if it doesn't have a trial, wait till there is one, if it does, then doesn't hurt to download it and save money if you happen to not like it. Don't make a blind purchase just because you are desperate to play something, you'll likely regret it afterwards.

Hope this helps you find or even keep playing that MMO :)

Guess this one might have been better in general discussion. Ah well. If it fits over there better, feel free to move it.
