I think the world of Pandora would lend itself very well to an MMORPG. using say Unreal 3 or Cryengine 2 to bring the jungles to life, it could be awesome Factional PVP - The Na'vi on one side and the RDA Corporation on the other. What do you think? And who should develop it? Heres hoping!!

The realist in me says 'doubtful'. The Avatar IP has already been licensed to a single-player game. There's nothing saying that an MMO license can't be had- but knowing that millions already went into another style game that bares the IP tells me it's not happening.
The dreamer in me says 'oh man'. The depth of the world, and the 'sides' you could potentially chose are truly different down to their cores, and the landscapes were breathtaking. Mounted combat would be as involving as unmounted as well, which would present depth of play we still have yet to witness done properly in an MMO.
That is exactly right, and we're not saying NO to save WoW, because it is already a lost cause. We are saying NO to dissuade the next group of greedy suits who decide to emulate Blizzard and Cryptic, etc.
We can prevent some of the future games from spewing this crap, but the sooner we start saying no, the better the results will be.
So - Stand up, pull up your pants, and walk away.

Games made from movies and stuff never are that good for some reason.
I guess it would be cool if they made it really well, but I can't help but feel it would lack quality.
I never saw the movie though
2 sided factional pvp never appealed to me. If you were building this game for that purpose then I think it would lack depth. I'm in favor of pvp games with more then 2 factions, preferably an odd number like 3, 5 and so on.
No required quests! And if I decide I want to be an assassin-cartographer-dancer-pastry chef who lives only to stalk and kill interior decorators, then that's who I want to be, even if it takes me four years to max all the skills and everyone else thinks I'm freaking nuts. -Madimorga-
Eh, why not?
Just be prepared for disappointment. Movies that translated into good games are few and far between.
Its a shame they didn't spend all that money on an Avatar MMO instead of a Movie. Imagine what they might of made with that kind of budget...
Nothing excites jaded Grandmasters more than a theoretical novelty
i think the best thing to do right now is to keep it original and not try to make a money machine.
I will just say Avatar is an amazing movie, but am not sure how good of an mmo it would make. Yeah the world is beautiful, and the two factions would be very different from eachother and could be fun. Just am not sure it would be the easiest thing to make replayable content, and end game though. Character advancement could work, because everyone gets stronger and better with training, but then how would gear work. One side has guns that could be made in several forms, but the other bos and arrows would just get a bit crazy I think trying to stick in a hundred different types of bows into a world that has already been made.
The Na'vi also once becoming a warior would make their own bow from a tree, and also they will bind for life with the banshee so that would mean only one flying mount. The world created already would just have more and more limitations to a game. The general way of making mmos now just wouldn't work, and they would have to do something new and untested. I just don't see anyone taking the chance.
So I will just enjoy the movie, and am already looking forward to the day I can own it on Blue-ray. Seriously is one of the few movies I would rate a 10 out of 10.
Only if I could drive an avatar like they do in the movie.
A MMORPG that perhaps 2% of gamers could play due to the ultra high requirements what a game in such a jungle setting would take?
Nah please let us enjoy these single player games as they are and let us for now atleast not think about the newest singleplayer to become MMORPG's. Let's try and be realistic in terms of understanding we are seeing something new
First let MMORPG focus on getting beter at what they have before we ask them to develop MMORPG that at this moment would be out of reach for the most gamers.
Pandora the most realistic alien jungle I ever seen in a game, due to the fact it's a singleplayer game. I would say just enjoy the multiplayer aspects of the game (Avatar Multiplayer Official Launch Footage), perhaps in a few years tech. will allow it to become a MMORPG, for now just let it be as it is.
I didnt read the OP
but All MMORPGs have Avatars. Eve's Avatar just happen to be a Ship.
So get over it!!
I heard they are getting humanoid Avatars in next major xpac
I wouldn't be surprised if it's in development already. What will they NOT make into an MMORPG these days?
I wonder how large of a raid would be needed for battling James Cameron's ego?
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
this, a MMO no way :S
BestSigEver :P
Lol I enjoy this post very much.
Apparently there is a lot more to the story line already created that they plan to make into other movies. So perhaps an MMO isn't out of the question as the IP grows. However, Star Wars had a lot more to it than what was in the original trilogy and we all know what happened to Episode 1-3 and SWG.
Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.
Lol man you crack me up.

I could shoot the OP, but I guess he is still too innocent.
If they make an avatar MMO it is going to end up like a wow clone with avatar characters or a FPS of some kind.
Developers can't make such a world into a good game since games haven't improved a bit since wow.
hey, a new (fill in media type here..movie, book, tv show, etc)!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMGZ!!!! How Leet.
Lets make this into a mmorpg. the _____________________ IP would make millions as a mmo, it'd topple wow in a heartbeat!!! I can't believe nobody else posted this yet, it's soooooooo obvious!!!
------------------cut and paste above this line and fill in the blanks---------------------------------
There, I think if that gets cut and pasted a few times it'll cut down on the spam new topics about the flavor of the month media hype ppl want made into mmos.
I'm just waiting on someone saying the WoW movie is such an amazing idea that someone should make a mmo about it :P
poopee
What really makes me think is why they keep making these anime MMOs that get more childish by the second, is this really not directed towards children? Fiesta, Winter Solstice Flyff etc.
Grand Fantasy, I gave a look to see if it had anything different from the other games (I'd never play any of them in the right mind), I take a look at features section and find you can have sprites, little cute pussballs the follow you around.
Who is making these games?, they make me sick to the pit of my stomach :S.
Back on topic
I hope they do not make an avatar MMO.
You never know. LOTR, Star Trek and, Star Wars all had movies and several single player games before the MMOGs came out. If doen correctly, what a game it would be though huh?
A tiny mind is a tidy mind...
How about no.
"There is only one thing of which I am certain, and that's nothing is certain."
Would rather see Avatar: The Last Airbender made into an MMO then James Cameron's Avatar. I know it's more cartoon but Multiple continents, 4 distinct races/bending styles (5 or more if you include non benders), flying mounts, ships, etc., would be more fun then feeding Cameron's wallet.
Think Avatar The Last Airbender would indeed have more in it for a MMORPG then Avatar the game we have now, Avatar The Game suites multiplayer well, but other then that it doesn't have much MMORPG fibe to it.
Still love the movie, and also am looking forward to the Avatar: TLA movie next year aswell, both completely different type of movies/stories.
Avatar is essentially using the MMO theme already. His chick brings him food to his office, he scarfs it down, never takes a shower, lost the ability to use his legs and can't wait to log back into his fantasy world. A game about that would be like the video that is on Youtube called "World of World of Warcraft."
Mh, I would say no. AVATAR is a great movie.. nothing more, Pandora and the story of AVATAR still hasen't got enough depht to make an MMO of it in my opinion. There is no real 'lore'. I guess an MMO about it would fail at this moment.

waiting for ... nothing..
I watched the Avatar trailer and it put me off completely. I dont think I'll watch it at all. It seems to be all about men going into space to enslave / murder / exploit an innocent species for nothing more than profits. That alone was enough to make me hate the movie even without watching it. I dont care if the evil human becomes good and falls in love with the blue girl and they all go save the world in the end, the premise is enough for me not to enjoy the ride.
/mindless rant.
An Avatar mmo? sure why not. as long as its well made and I could play the blue creatures, so I could kick some GI Joe's ass.
If you stand VERY still, and close your eyes, after a minute you can actually FEEL the universe revolving around PvP.
I have'n't seen the movie yet but it's my sense that the beings who they try to take advantage of aren't as helpless as they seem. I could be wrong but it seems that the blue guys have their own tricks despite not having the same types of technological advancement. That in and of itself, if it is true, seems to be reason enough to go see it. At least for me.
