I've signed up recently and I have to say there's more people now than when I started.  The world isn't crowded by any means but it certainly doesn't feel empty.  (It is possible to end up in the wilderness without another soul in sight, which is kind of cool actually.)

I'm really enjoying Darkfall and wish I had more time to play it.  (I'm currently painting over 2000 points of Warhammer miniatures!)

Numbers of new players have spiked since the expansion, but DFO still needs new blood!

Because of a lack of penalties most clans are ARAC (All Race All Class, yes I know there are no classes but that's the acronym...)  Human's can join Alfar, Orc, Or Mahirim clans without much issue, and at least on NA-1 there's only one clan in the top 40 or so for size which restrict races from joining.  (Bloodstone Syndicate is Human / Dwarf / Elf only.)

The alignment is only there to protect newb's. After that, the only reason why you dont want to be red is because you still want to do more quest, you still want to buy stuff from npc's of your race. Alignment dont protect you from griefers that came from a long way just to kill noobs since its not a problem for them to go red, but it protect you from other newb's around you. If  a newb with the same alignment kill you too often while you try to kill goblin, he wont be able to go back to his capital city, doing starter quest and if he die, he will have to respawn far away from the starter city too. And the only way that newb can go back to being blue is by killing other race, but he will have to travel a lot to find the enemy players and its not easy for a newb.

If you don't mind grinding skills and stats for a couple months until you are useful, and dont mind that mobs and players can change direction erratically, then yeah, you'll probably like Darkfall. Those are my personal quibbles, anyway. To what you wrote, the world feels empty at times, but it's pretty big too, and like the other poster said, you can be in a clan with any other race.

Actually, I think there are two more in the top 40 that restrict: Black Ork Assassins (ork only) and Bloodsomething-or-other (can't remember their name, but they're ork and mahirim only). BOA had around 60 members last I checked, and the other clan isn't too far behind.

    Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN

BOA has 75 members now and we are Ork only.  The Blood Ork clan is a Ork/Mahirim clan only.

Thanks, Pulze. I knew the other clan had "blood" in the name. And BOA is growing quite fast!

population is very good on EU-1 i dunno how situation looks on US-1

i played 2 weeks after release and it was overcrowded - when in big world u find ppl everywhere

now its prefect and lately i see lot of newb players that starts to play

i just started after last patch brand new char (i sold my first account)

and i must say DFO after that few months is very good polished game with good support! x)

and about being usefull its depend what is your goal

if u want to be solo uber pwner few months can be not enough

but if u find guild u can easyli have alot of fun

in my 2 weeks of play i was in 3 sea tower attacks and one hamlet and one town siege

    and it was great fun

form what i see u need something about 1-2 month to start solo pvp - its needed to get some must have skills and to gain personal experience - and if u will choose your target wise u will be able to solo PvP

and i must add that DFO is hard game - especially for newb players - so any new player should know this

but with every day of experience DFO become more and more easier - like with everything

I just started yesterday and I'm enjoying my time. I'm not really rushing things but enjoying the crafting and combat. I'm an FPS nerd so I enjoy the Archery. It's tough to get used to at first, especially the GUI but you just gotta play around with it and then get the hang of the things. Sure the game can work on things, but I like what they've got.

Just make sure you have a good idea of what you wanna do or else you'll get lost in doing several things and it could burn you out.

Absolutely. Pick it up OP. You will be happy you did...

Around release time, I was one of the many people flaming the crap out of these boards because of the state it was in at that time. However, they have really turned their act around. I gave the game another shot and I am very happy that I did. I haven't had this much fun in an MMO in a very very long time. All of my recent posts on MMORPG.com probably sound like an advertisement for the game... but that is honestly how I feel.

If you don't at least give this game a shot, you will be missing out big time.

Definitely, my only quarrel with the game is the fact that older players have upwards of 400 hit points and I'm pushing 250 :).

And man, two of the newer guys from my clan and my self went out to kill in human lands and after killing upwards of 10 people we came across an EU transfer and he rocked our world. I got away in the end though, /heartbeat. This game is sweet as hell.

Been trying a few nights on a m8's account ....

I love how intens this game is ... but i also see that as the negative part. It's pretty noob unfriendly ..

I'm naked chopping wood ... let me do my crafting stuff and support the economy instead of ganking me over and over again.

Getting ganked over and over, night after night by uber characters and characters with "specials" skills that were not in the game design.  Several of my friends left the game due to this .. there is hardcore and there is hardcore. This is just taking the whole fun out for new players.

So .... even though i immediately fell in love ... i also hate it :)

This has to be related to where your starting area is. In the mahirim starting areas, I was PKed a total of 3 times in 1 month. Since I've moved to my clan's city, the number of PKers has risen, but I still haven't been killed by one yet. It'll eventually happen I'm sure, but it's not so bad I can't explore, harvest and work on mobs.

What kind of "special" skills are you referring to? I'm assuming you mean hacking?
