I don't care about grind...Recently...well not recently...ever since world of warcraft came out...I've been hearing alot of bitching about grind...and I'm just here to ask why?
WoW is available for anyone who doesn't want to grind...its not as if its closed off to you people somehow...but when you get to lvl 80 in WoW...there is no sense of achievement...(Unless you grind for top tier gear which just has you grinding anyways and is the same conceptual thing in the end...)
Remember the good old days of Lineage: The Blood Pledge? where lvls 47-48 was as difficult to achieve as lvls 1-47...? and then you had those few individuals who were dedicated enough to get to lvl 75 and beyond...and there was a sense of a goal that you wanted to accomplish...
If I wanted to quest...and be told to "go kill these for me bitch" and then "run back to me after you did my errand and I will reward you with vendor trash" then why don't I just get a second job? I would trade in all of the questing on any game for a more rewarding grind...and what is it exactly that you people think your doing with "quests?" its just you grinding on a single type of monster in a set area until you get enough of them or you grind out the rare item that they drop...so what makes you think your not grinding? it doesnt make sense...and it makes an mmorpg really stale and repetative...its no more interesting then grinding if you actually stop to think about it...but at least with grinding if you can actually manage to get to endgame...you feel somewhat satisfied and dedicated to your character...not like on wow where you have scattered lvl 80s all over the place on different servers cause its as easy as baking a pie to make a new lvl 80 char...and your guild says "oh we got competition on this server so we're all moving to some other crappier server"
so...I have no problem with grind...all games end up as grind anyhow so at least if they are straightforward with it and don't try to sell me a second job...and then make me pay 15$ to play "lets go to work for these npcs" then I will love this game...
if you want a game that you dont have to grind in...and you hate wow...then go play Myth...for anyone who hates grind...MMORPGs are really not your type of game...puzzle pirates or starcraft...thats all good for non-grind happy people...

Personally I do like long, difficult level grinds. However I think we are in the minority and it's understandable.

The majority of people want long, difficult level grinds. For other people. They want themselves to have all the best gear and highest levels.
Combat seems to be really Fun. i think grind would be no problem
Grinders are fine when your 14 and its summer break. After a while, endlessly killing mob after mob, with nothing else to do, gets boring. Your grinding for what? To be one of the tiny % of people to make it to the endgame? Most of these grinders dont offer anything spectaculair in terms of endgame, and are oftern dominated by hacker/intem mall junkies who botted to the endgame.
If there was a game that offers a spectaculair endgame, that is populated by regular player, not dominated by intem mall junkies, then the grind might be ok.
I dunno grinders just seel so empty and souless (as a game not population or community wise). Its like im just there to see how far i can get before im bored out of my minds. Its like the game is just some some longass level race that no one ever finishes without a bot and with an outside life/job. I suppose people reach endgames in these games with a life/job/ect, however by the time you get there, the next f2p grinder is out already and the population of your game dwindles as crowd heads over to the newest f2p.
If you are employed and have any significant non gamer life, logging on for 2-4 hours and being able to get a level or two is much more appealing than logging on, chilling in a feild of mobs and hacking away for a few % on a level. Especially if i can partake in some very entertaining endgame activites in under 6months, where i wont be bored and alone.
Also notice a lack of depth and lore with grinders, you get your few quests per level, and most have nothing to do with eachother or a congruent storyline or theme. This is the major reason they are considerd grinders, not much else to do other than grind. At least in p2p games you have the option not to grind via dugeons people actually do / in depth questlines / pvp and a reason for everything being there, other than a place for you just to smash zombies or wierd cat/human mobs or whatever.
Most grinders are PvP games, and grinding is just one of the ways to create conflict, time sink and an economy in the game world. End game only means you are an elite soldier per say in these games, but the game doesn't ever end it is perpetual in itself. All you need to do to keep these games rolling is balancing and adding new bosses and fun features.
In PvE games their is storytelling process (although most people don't even read quests) that you rush to until lvl cap and then you get to endgame. In these games endgame is a bunch of instanced raiding that takes even more of your life away as you have to commit time everyday, only to have your hardwork and dedication mean very little when an expansion hits.
I'll take the grinder any day. Alot of people like to think westerner's hate korean grinders but i am sure not one of them. Aion however is an exception. I hate it because its a wanna be PvPvE game with shitty PvE , shitty endgame, and shitty PvP.
Play WoW if you want an endgame. It's as zeree said-instead of spending however much time you can afford grinding, you spend more time than you are supposed to raiding.
Why even mention grind or wow when discussing this game? NCsoft is very straightfoward with what they want to do and accomplish when developing a game. They did so with Aion and just about every game they created. They aren't planning to make this game a 'grind'. This is their attempt at innovating the martial arts/ mmo genre.
