I can not believe that no one has said this yet, as it is IP that practically begs to be an MMO with a fresh setting and a ripe space for innovative gameplay concepts. We've been begging for this on MMORPG (multiple times), have we not?
Edit: Keep in mind that while a lot of people hate WoW, it makes billions. Should you not make a blockbuster MMO simply because some people are vocal in their hatred of the IP? I know a lot of people who hate Star Wars....

I want to see a "Planet of the apes" mmo. You can choose either human or ape, fight for villages and resources. Have in-fighting for the control of said villages/towns. Unearth 'artifacts' that are starnge and exotic (like a toothbrush or a G-string), and be able to spout war-like proclamations "Get your stinking paws off me you damn, dirty ape!!"
Beside this i think that an IP can be a big burden for an MMORPG - some IPs have a much to fanatic fancrowd that can never accept that for an MMO you must sometimes sacrifice accuracy of the IP for playability...so a fresh MMO-Background shaped for the needs of that MMORPG can be much more usefull/successfull.

Staying in a fantasy setting, and liking PvP, then there is really 2 things that comes to my mind
1) A song of fire and ice.
2) Birthright (an old AD&D world). a lot more controverisal but also with a huge potential. But if anyone put the game mechanics from that world into an MMO , it could be very interesting!
Though to be honest, I don't think that existing character driven IPs make good MMOs.
You make a Harry Potter MMO; everyone wants to be Harry Potter.
You make a Star Wars MMO; everyone wants to be Obiwan or Darth Vader.
You make a LOTR MMO; everyone wants to be Aragorn, Gandalf or Legolas.
I like what TOR is doing; using a recognizable IP but in a completely different timeframe so that there are no (as yet) recognizable and iconic heroes for us to feel inferior to.

That's easy enough to combat, if you make all the famous chars NPCs. Warcraft had heroes, they are all NPCs in WoW.
Am I the only one that thinks a GoW MMO, with good TPS PvP and PvE content with no dice rolls and combat like the TPS games would be fantastic?
We already have a setting, lore/story and a setup for a game that could be truly unique.
Playing - Champions Online Unsure Of - Darkfall, Star Trek Online Waiting For - Star Wars: The Old Republic, All Points Bulletin Played - Age Of Conan, Everquest II, Mabinogi, Tabula Rasa, Star Wars Galaxies, World Of Warcraft

Didn't really solve the problem in games like LOTRO and SWG.
In LOTRO, I felt as though I was some peon doing pointless/mildly impactful tasks on the edges of the great quest that the NPC heroes was supposed to be doing. SWG was the same.
WoW was kinda different since I didn't know much/any of the lore when I started playing, and the iconic heroes/villains only entered the frame in one or two missions.

I'd want to be Luna Lovegood.

Well, if you never read Tolkien or seen the star wars movies things would be the same. As a game creator that is really not something you should aim at.
If you make an existing IP it is probably more fun if you let the game be placed after or before the books, earlier games or movies, so that the players don't feel like they are just npcs while the fellowship or similar heroes are the true heroes in the game.
There are however world that are made perfect for a MMO without making the players to feel like secondary heroes, like Forgotten realms or the old world from Warhammer fantasy RPG. RPG worlds are made so that the players can be the heroes and they works very well in a MMO. It is a mystery to me that Forgotten realms isn't a MMO yet even if Turbine is working on it. Dragonlance is another setting that would make an interesting MMO.
The more epic a book or movie is the more the worse will it work to have a MMO set at the same time and place. Wheel of time is one example that wouldn't work good, the heroes of the books are just to involved in everything to make it fun, you could however make a good MMO just a few years before the first book or possible after the last.
1) Star Ocean (You know you want it) 2) Mass Effect (Already feels like an MMO) 3) Dragon Age (Already feels like an MMO) 4) Oblivion / Morrowind (Darkfall is close) 5) Legend of Zelda (Everything is there for an MMO) 6) Pokemon (Not really sure why this has not been made lol) 7) One Piece (Has enough for an MMO) 8)Unreal Championship 2 (Think about it) 9) Grand Theft Auto (APB is lame) 10) Final Fantasy XI Remake (FFXIV is not gonna have anything on FFXI) 11) .Hack MMO (The MMO part without the real world crap) 12) Saints Row (GTA is not fun any more) 13) Fable (It could be nice if done correctly) 14) Something about old Japan (Wondering Samurai full PvP FTW)

Girl Genius, by Phil Foglio. Set in the interregnum between the disappearance of the Heterodynes and the first comic, during the wild chaotic years when Klaus was just gaining control. Jagermonsters, mad science, sentient castles, spider women... it's a huge world and there's so much you can do with it.
I never thought I'd see someone else post this.
I fully agree. The Girl Genius universe as an MMO would be awesome. There'd be nothing like it, it's so damn original.

In no specific order:
Battlestar Galactica
Jaws (kidding)
Matrix (again, as another poster already stated... it would have to be done right, not fumbled and fubar'd in ways that only SOE knows)
Equilibrium
Underworld (or something like it... even something along the lines of Vampire of the Masquerade: Bloodlines or Blade)
Highlander (it's a stretch, I know... potentially undoable)
GI Joe (the movie sucked, but it could be fun)
Transformers
MechWarrior/BattleTech
Resident Evil
Chronicles of Narnia (loved the books as a kid)
White Wolf's World of Darkness. Vampire: The Masquerade.
Forgotten realms....
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
