I might as well start saving... how much do you think a pc will cost that will run FFXIV at high settings?  Just the pc, no monitor or accessories required.

Oh high settings? Well no one really knows how demanding the game will truly be but if one were to guess that it would be around LotRO on highest, then I would say about $1200-$1300 but I built a really ncie i7-860 w/ a Nvidia GTS 260 and 4 gig ram @ 1600 and I run WoW on highest at a constant 60fps(max) and I run Resident Evil 5 on max with a range of 70-120 fps and Dragon Age, I dont know the FPS but its always smooth on highest so atleast 50+ FPS. That said my PC cost only $800 to build including tax and I bought a $200 mobo which isnt necessary. I just wanted the best lol. If you want links let me know.

    Hope this helps,

The thing is how much are you willing to spend?  Also if you want to build it yourself or go with a company like dell or HP.  I know you are trying to save up but also factor in how much you want to spend.  If you want to build one ,you can spend around $700 and overclock your cpu, gpu, and ram or you can spend like $1000 and run everything at stock settings or can overclock that for better performance.  These are just numbers out of the top of my head from past builds I've done and also my pricing could be cheaper since newer products came out and lower the price of older parts.  I can post later and I'm sure others can to of a build that can possible run FF XIV at max or close if you list a price range.

I build alot of computer, you can build budget gaming computers if you know where to cut stuff out,

you can build a fairly powerful gaming computer for just under 500$ without OS,

    AMD 2.8 Regor AM3

Cheap Case and PSU combo about 500W

    Cheap AM3 or AM2+/AM3 Motherboard

Not Junky but Inexpensive DDR2/DDR3 ram depending on Board (4GB)

Now this is what effects ALL your gaming mostly... your video card:

I would recommend a ATI 5750 or whatever is within your budget

If budget allows for it, Up your PSU to a Corsair 750W, you can usually find em on sale alot of the time for 75$!, and a good GPU!

I'm bored right now so I'll do a quick build for a PC that would work 4 ya:

    CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103688

    Case/PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811121042

    RAM:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227495

    Mobo:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128392

    And da Perdy GPU:

    GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102809

Only Issue is that PSU power is a bit low, the X2 4850 is a Beast card... I mean a Beast... look up benchmarks its crazy, So I would go for a different case and a 750W PSU.

I believe at one point SE did mention that they are shooting for extremely high specs so that in 5 yrs time the avg computer then will be able to play it on max settings with little to no problem.

Look back at EQII launch where SOE said the same thing.....very few PCs could run that game at max then and the avg PC had some trouble running it, but now 5 yrs later the avg PC has no issues with it!

Personally I've already got $5,000 invested in my current PC, and I plan to upgrade again before FFXIV, going either duo or triple SLi with GTX 275s, already have one.  Upgrading my MB and CPU the latest affordable one, and planning to go from 4gb RAM to 12 or 16gb...just cause...hehe

I don't think it will be in the same extreme manner.  It just doesn't make sense IMO that they would look to serve computers that people don't even own yet.  They want more subscribers, not less.  EQ2 made a mistake with this.

If they do that, I'll probably stick to the PS3 version.

I invested $399 for my PS3, and $40 for a keyboard and mouse. I'll flash the "I WIN!" now.

Too bad the PS3 sucks though and don't support a fraction of what PCs can handle...hehe  Yes a PC costs a ton more, but we have a ton more things we can do with it.  PS3 does what, surf the net, watch a movie or play a game from their crappy library...rofl

Consoles are good for select games on occasion, but I get so very bored of them quickly.  Although I am planning to get a 360 again for the launch of FFXIII...don't wanna miss that one!

Well it does do a lot. I mean it plays CDs, DVDs, Blu Rays, PS1, PS3, and has a bunch of games available for download on the store. Old ones can play PS2 games also. I just wish the new ones did, too ):

Don't diss the PS3.  I have a PS3 and love it and a up to date PC but I still game more on my PS3 than my PC.  When a game is multiplatform I usually go with the PS3 version than PC.  FFXIV will be the exception since I will eventually or heck even at launch get both.  PS3 is a solid machine I got one at launch and it lasted 2 years before I got the ylod and my replacement is still kicking strong.  On the other hand friend of mines got a Xbox 360 at launch and went through 3 the first of getting that and 2 more after that but it seems he finally got lucky since his last one has been going strong for almost a year but that could be due to him not playing much.

Yeah, don't post them if its that bad...you should upgrade, its not that expensive for a PC well enough to play the latest MMOs!  However if you want to play the latest on the maximum possible settings in DX10, its gonna be costly!

PS3 cell processor will suport a lot more than you think. PS3 does what? Whats its suposed to and thats play console games. Just like the 360. Crappy library? Your missing out on a lot of highly reviewed exclusives. Uncharted I and II, Killzone, Demons soul. Others that will be out in a few month like white knight which is an offline and online RPG. I personally can barely wait for that game, make my character go through the story then go play online.  Lets not forget god of war III.

Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore)
    Now Playing: N/A
    Worst MMO: FFXIV
    Favorite MMO: FFXI

All of which I have no interest in, thus the crappy library IMO, the 360 isn't much better either, and I'd much rather give my money to Microsoft over Sony for FFXIII!  There are far more RPGs and games I enjoy on the 360 as well that I may consider getting someday, but my priorities this year are FFXIII and FFXIV!

M$ will gladly take your money then milk you for more money.  Theres only 1 true JRPG on 360 that is a must buy and thats lost odyssey, matter of fact thats my favorite next gen RPG. Well see if White kniight will be able to rival it, which from what I have seen and read it has a good shot. Especially since  it has online value where you can team up  with your friends and other people to do missions/quests. Both consols 360 and PS3 are both hurting for good ole RPG's.

A person who decries a console without even trying some of it's top titles of 2009?

    Fail.

Oh, and keep wasting your money on M$ for their  RPGs.  They'll all eventually come to the PS3 with more stuff.  You probably haven't even tried Valkyria Chronicles.  lol......LOL.

Do you not understand what "I have no interest in those titles" means, and besides most those games you say that will eventually come to PS3, the developers of them left Sony already and became exclusives on the 360 instead.  If they do get a release years later, big deal, cause really, a re-release of a game on a diff system with a few extra quests or a new playable char; that changes nothing of the core of said game would never get me to buy the game on another system for that....so silly!

Also just cause a game may have sold well and was decreed that its the top title of any year doesn't mean I'll like it, or even care about it.  Take Halo for instance, I don't like that series at all...FPS in general don't like em...its a top title, but I don't care!

the people who truely win here are the folks (like myself) who saved up and got both (well i actually have very new gen platform including DS and PSP) and have the ability to play all the games.

both systems have their ups and downs right out of the gate. When my little brother asked which he should get, for the first time i had to say "well that depends". this gen especially there is a huge diffrence in each console. Last gen i would have said PS2 hands down, but its not that simple anymore, everything does more then just play games, everything from online play, all the diffrent apps like facebook, netflix, twitter, the diffrent things u can get from each consoles store/arcade down to hardware things like playback and DVD or blueray. To me neither is better then the other at this point, from a pure game prespective, just go with what system has more titles you think you will like.
