I love to raid in Vanguard and I'll probably be on the look out for a new MMO in 2010. I've got my eye on Final Fantasy XIV and haven't found any info on raiding.

There is no info on it yet other than, "we have some end game planned" but thats the last thing I care about with a new MMO. Tis all about the adventure first and foremost....and eventually I'll get to this so called end game where raids take place, but its a distant twinkle...hehe
There will be raids at some point. However at launch dont expect a content rich end-game.

dont expeect a ton of endgame off the bat (well no game has alot to start) but if this game is anything like FFXI, then its going to be a huge part of the game (FFXI probly has the most endgame and veriaty of it ive ever seen)
so like the other posters said, enjoy the journey and im pretty sure later on they will have plenty of endgame to go around.
Everyone thinks Raid are some end game content,it is not and yes you can expect FFXIV to have raids.Personally i wish there was no such thing,i have no interest for Raids but you can bet it will have them.
Content that involves a lot of players is a nice time sink to keep players coming back and they also had it limited in FFXI.I expect the same thing in FFXIV ,entrance to SOME Raids might be once a week or once every 24 hours.
Square learned a lot from their original 50 level design and what they learned is you need time sinks, because some players will play for 100 hours at a time with no sleep,so they need to create that longevity.Everything i saw Square do after the first 50 levels was to create more difficult and more time consuming content,so i expect nothing to change in FFXIV.
SO you can also expect drop rates to be as low around the 15% range,so players have to keep going back week after week to be able to gear all the players in a Raid,it really is a terribly cheap design. The ONLY reason people Raid is for the gear,so making them have to organize 24+ players and to create a year long endeavor from it,is a cheap way to create long standing subscriptions. There is better more challenging ways to make players earn their gear, other than the size of a group.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Raid stuff really is there for the more deticated players, and for the most part they tend to enjoy it (i like to do it on occasion)
one thing im really hoping for is that if they decide to raise the level cap they have it set in mind so it doesnt ruin older stuff, alot of the not so HQ MMOs often ruin their older endgame by having constant level cap raises. Though im pretty sure SE will do this properly.
Don't call it raid, because it won't be.
Not in the normal sense anyway.
You didn't call endgame in XI "raids". They were "events".
Because you really couldn't lump all the endgame in the game into one category.
If SE continues on this trend, which I don't doubt, there will be no "raids" in XIV either.
thats true though some of the events were very raid-like and "raids" are kind of like the main endgame focus for alot of other MMOs, so its more of a term then anything else.
The reason I like raiding so much in Vanguard is that it provides a common goal for the guild to work together towards. A good MMO for me is about community first and foremost. I played EQ for 4 years with the same guild and am almost at 3 years in Vanguard with the same guild.
If FFXIV provided something similar to a raid, even if it wasn't a traditional raid, I think that would provide the sense of a common goal for a guild. I'm hoping this game and a good mix of solo, group and call it 'large group' content. I love to solo, I love dungeon crawls with a group and I love working as a large group to figure out how to take down a dragon, even if it takes months of prep and effort.
noones quite sure what route this game will take, most FFXI fans are hoping for alot of whatthey loved about it to be passed on (eg: emphasis group orientated play, great community, lots of variety in endgame, great story line..ect)
from playing EQOA and EQ2, i cant say they had anything like deoungen crawls as the main way to level, it was more of, grab a camp and grind on mobs. Honestly i really liked the deoungen crawl stuff from the EQs, though they did get repative, atleast in EQ2, so having camp grinds and well thought out guild leves ( aka quests) all in good propotions would be the best way to keep everything fresh.
i dont think SE is going to stray away from the endgame stuff, it was a big thing in FFXI, so them not having alot of it would be stupid IMO.
While that is true, they were still significantly different enough that calling them "raids" wouldn't have been as effective as calling them with their real names. So to know which "raid" you were talking about.
That applies to every MMO's then.
As much as I loved FFXI, lets not be delusional, there were god raids, dynamis raids, limbus raids, sea raids, NM raids HNM raids. All of them were raids, all of them different. Granted most of them in game were not refered to as "raids", but there raids. Most people consider "raids" any high end content thats meant to be completed many times.
Edit: I have never played WoW, but Id bet the farm that if you say to an end game guild in WoW "lets go Raid" Noboby will know what or where to go. I colud be wrong. But theres different types of raids in all the MMO's that I know of.
