Expansion? Three months after release of the original game?
You mean the rest of the original game content, held back till after the holidays to maximize potential revenue.
You see the Industry pretty much has its consumers "TRAINED"
a la Pavlov's Dog with this micro-transaction mindset.
Its a marketing technique that favors the Industry in this less than stellar economy.
I will not purchase the "faux-expansion".

Are you talking about Dragon Age Origins? If you think you have been ripped off, you need a reality check.
The game came with about 40 to 60 hours of content. If you think you didn't get your moneys worth you're simply delusional.
I think that the DAO campaign was fine but a bit short for something claiming to fall in the footsteps of Baulders Gate. Just because it came with a lot of included gameplay (your 40-60 hr's) is no reason for it not to come packaged with more.
Little over 90 days.... dude get a grip on the Economics. Its a scam.
Lots of folks finished the game pretty quickly and paid for the DLC as it is. Its a trend that's here to stay apparently.
I'll rephrase, I'd feel "ripped-off" if I bought it.
Just think of it a sequel released a lot quicker than you'd usually have to wait, and one that you know you'll like. Sure beats waiting 2-3 years for an "official" sequel that either might as well just be an expansion or has major changes to the gameplay that will make buying it a gamble.
To be fair to the devs, they are under very strict deadlines and I'm sure that a lot of the content is stuff they really wanted to provide in the initial release but just weren't able to get in fast enough. The game was released Nov 3rd and the expansion won't release until March so if you include the month or more that the devs had to stop adding new content to the game prior to release this is nearly a half-year gap. Lastly it should be priced appropriately which means that if it is rather short it won't cost near as much as a full game, where as if it is just as long they'll price it the same as DAO.
They are not expansions, they are add-ons. They cost like 5 bucks for new content. Sheesh, get over it. You don't have to buy it.
I stand corrected. Did a search. However, I still say, you do not have to buy it. The first game was a great amount of play (i've been able to play 1-2 hours daily since my wife has kicked me off to play it so I have yet to finish it). I know the ending, and I am waiting to see if you meet up with Morrigan and her creeper baby if you chose that path.
Always gotta laugh at the people who think these companies owe them something. It's their product, they can price it however they want. I like to compare them to the morons who bash any mmo that they have to pay a subscription price. CMN
The Official God FAQ
I have no idea what to say except that I pity you. If Dragon Age wasn't a complete enough gaming experience for you then you're never going to find enjoyment.
Awakening is scheduled for March, that's a full five months after release. You're actually complaining after such a complete a story of a game the initial experience was, that additional content is coming too soon half a year later? Please.
By all means BioWare, release DLC as frequently as possible, release expansions as frequently as possible. So long as they're worth the money spent in excess, I could give a shit if it was all completed 5 years ago but was withheld until now.
Would rather have an expansion than not have one. Felt i got my moneys worth with DAO so have no problems forking over more for an expansion.
You need to look up what scam means because it doesn't mean what you think it means.
How Bioware develops its game is none of your business. It doesn't matter if they decide to develop the expansion at the same time as they develop the original game. Heck, they could have already developed Dragon Age 2, that still doesn't entitle you to get it for free. You're paying for the end product, you're not hiring them.
It only makes sense to complain when you didn't get enough bang for your buck. Considering Dragon Age offers more content than most games and offers a lot of replayability, I don't think this is an issue.
I agreed with you until the very end.
That is supporting the death of gaming in general.
"Release a semi finished game. We'll ship it out and the rest of the content later".
DLC has it's place but being eager to pay for a product that isn't finished and then pay even more later on for content that should of been in the first? Come on.
Needless to say I'm a DLC nut if it's proper.
My 360's hard drive is damn near full.
(thanks borderlands DLC's! 1 gig..)

Well, I didn't say it's ok to release a semi-finished game. Dragon Age was a finished game despite what state the expansion content was in at the time of launch. The existence of additional content ready to go at the time of launch isn't the same thing as the core product not being complete.
All that matters is that what's put on a disc is exceedingly full of content and complete, and Dragon Age was all of that. If five other expansions were ready to roll out that same day, and were just as fulfilling of experiences, why would I feel cheated? To me its no different than Mass Effect 2 probably being ready at the same time Dragon Age launched, was I owed that too for my single purchase?
The point being, people have to not automatically consider a product -not finished- just because additional DLC and expansions come soon after game's release. This is a -good- thing. It's only bad when it really IS a case of the original game not being complete, and the DLC fills holes rather than expands. The latter of which is paying for a patch, and rightfully that can be complained about. But, complaining about any number of true DLC and expansions being ready soon after launch? Craziness. So long as its of quality, bring it on. Could I get a Dragon Age 2 in July?
I don't mind games that have expansions and afterall, i've spent 43 hours completing the game on my first play through and am now playing it through with another class being a badass rather then a goody goody person.
The only thing i didn't like was the downloadable content released from the very first day for the original game. I felt i was being ripped off a bit, and even though i bought the content i sort of wish i hadn't bothered. The main reason being was the fact it would bug out and you would be left with a character naked missing all the good armor and wpns you had picked up in the downloadable content. To keep having to log in everytime i play the game is really annoying..
As far as the expansion goes i think that they need to lower the price, having just checked on Gamestop prior to writing this, they are charging $39.99! now not being funny but im pretty sure that is how much i paid for the original game, admittedly that price may come down but at this moment in time if it stays at that price i won't be buying it. Also i just hope they dont do more downloadable content with the expansion from the release day, if they did then i would not buy the content unless they fix it so that i dont have to sign into the net to play the game to get the content which i should have by right because i paid for it.
well all i can say is this:
first play through: 104 hours...
I 3930k -- Rampage IV Extreme -- G.skill RipjawsZ 32 GB -- Corsair Force Series 3 120gb -- G.skill Phoenix Pro 60gb -- WD 1 TB Black -- Corsair H 100 -- Thermaltake Level 10 Gt Snow Edition -- Corsair AX1200 -- Asus 560 Ti Sli -- Microsoft Sidewinder X4 -- Logitech G5 -- DELL UltraSharp 2007FP -- Samsung Syncmaster Sa700 -- Logitech Z2300 -- Logitech G35 -- Logitech G600 White -- coming soon : Dell U2711.
Collectors Edition and first DLC lasted me 96 hours on my first play.
Not got around to any other characters yet, and even if i don't it was well worth the money.
RPG of the year for me.
Currently playing: WAR/AoC free trials. WoW.
Played: DaoC, Pre-NGE SWG. Legends of Cosrin. DDO until Unlimited.
Tried: EvE, EQ2, Fallen Earth, Global Agenda, TiTD, CoH/CoV, Matrix:Online.
If you want to complain about a lack of content, you're looking at the wrong game.
I don't understand your logic. Why would you complain about them adding content regardless of what they charge. Content is content, which is a proven commodity.
This game without the free updates and such is an awesome, lore heavy game with a ton of content to explore. A game that offers 50 hours or so just to beat the game with a million different ways of playing the game is quite fun.
They are a business. If I was them, I'd want to maximize my revenue too. You could make that futile arguement against anyone that DARES to charge for expansions for a game, which many companies do as it is a proven way to make money from a good product.
Regardless of the intention of the developers, this still looks like an opportunity to squeeze out a few more dollars from a customer base that has already spent $60.00+ USD on the game.
I don't see that at all. If this is a full on expansion with about 20-30 hours of added gameplay, then it's at my expectation level of what a paid expansion should be for a game like DAO.
Ultima Online
Mystic of The Fallen Lords (Pacific 98-01)
Mystic of Catskills (03 - 08)
I could be wrong but from what I have read the expansion will offer around 15-20 hours of additional gameplay.
Which is more than many games offer for single player experience.
Such as Modern Warfare 2 with around 5-6 hours of single player, bioshock which for me was around 10-12 hours, and many others.
So for me even at $40 bucks its still a good value for time vs $ compared to some others.
And as far as people complaining about the xpac or the DLC then dont buy it. So far I have about 100 hours in DA over a couple of characters. Hell even if you got 40 hours of gameplay it would still be well worth the money.
No one is forcing you to buy the addons or expansion.
Also from what I've read all the addons have been cheap (I havent bought any) and the actual first expansion is supposed to add quite a bit to the game so no I don't think it's a scam.
I personally don't buy DLC unless I really love a game and so far that's been GTA4 and Oblivion most of the time I just ignore the DLC.
Playing: Rift, LotRO
Waiting on: GW2, BP
torrent it, i didn't pay anything for Dragon Age ... and im glad.
the Evil Raider that outgears you and makes you cry for welfare epics on the forums.
All the DLCs and extremely early expansion certainly seems like they intentionally cut a lot of content out of the original box game.
I honestly don't care what their excuse is at this point for the ridiculous speed that they're churning out DLCs and apparently now expansions. I thought the original game was lacking enough diversity and uniqueness to deserve me spending any more money on any DLCs or expansions, so I won't be purchasing anything else for DA:O.
this is one of the reasons I will probably torrent ME2, why am i paying for a game when i dont get everything.

It's not a scam at all. Heck, I'm still playing the game. But am ready for something new.
I am completely satisfied with my purchase. As long as the expansion is about 20 hours or so I will be satisfied.
It has NOTHING to do with the time of these products released and everything to do with how much content is in them.
If the game retailed for 39.00 and only had the amount of content that Warden's keep had THEN it would be a scam.
It's ok to pay for things, it's how most of us make a living.

So instead you take it? You like it enough to play it but don't like it enough to pay for it?
The movie is ok but only good enough to sneak into the theater. This couch is ok but the color sucks and I wish it was a bit longer. Oh well, i'll bonk the salesman on the head and you drive the truck up in the rear.

because its illegal to do it the other way, and you wouldn't be playing any of those games if people weren't paying for them. I can't believe this was an actual question.
