The I am keeping my pre-order of the game thread.

daylight01daylight01 Member Posts: 2,250

Ok guys before we start this thread it is just for people that are keeping there pre-orders and why,I do not want to see trolling threads about the game,if you feel the need then maybe someone can start "I have cancelled my pre-order thread"

Anyway..

I am for sure keeping my pre-order .

I love the space combat, even with random groups and very little chat going on people do seem to work as a team,I can not wait for fleet groups using voice coms.

The graphics, sound, custom ships and players were all great.

The ground missions are rough around the edges but I am sure that will improve.

Also I can honestly imagine how great pvp will be some months after release with fleet on fleet battles..I am sure it will come.

The game is already very good with great potential..I for 1 think it is at the very least worthy of the free month that comes with the box...I hope many many months after that.

I am keeping my pre order because I do love the combat system, I spent like 6 hours in deep space encounters and that star base 24 or something.

I think the graphics are great because I'm not comparing them to EVE because they are 2 different games.  STO has Ground combat and space combat, unlike EVE.

The ground combat isn't as good as space combat but I do think it's enough to keep me playing ground.

    I do love this game

Star Base 24 is well crazy for a low level.

I am specced up for space combat mainly and transitioned by pre-order to a lifetime sub based on the strengths here for me.

Yep in all fairness I not only kept my pre-order but when released today bought the lifetime account.

Keeping mine. I been in beta awhile from having a CO lifetime sub. I find the game fun and bought a lifetime tonight. Bye bye IRS Refund haha.

What about if you didn't pre-order yet do plan to pick the game up at launch?

Gotta say I was pleasantly surprised by this game, I didn't expect it to be what it was. The first two days of comments didn't say much about the game outside it "sucked". It's pretty obvious most of those posts were made by people who didn't play or played very little.

Anyone who says the game is fight, fight, fight really didn't make it past the tutorial, the first thing that happens after is you are sent to a social hub rofl. My next missions consisted of patrolling, fighting and solving miner problems, little different than the preliminary all there is is pew, pew , pew comments

The other comment I see a whole bunch of is, it's single player, funny considering there's forced grouping, if you bothered to make it that far LOL..

Im keeping mine but not getting the lifetime. Borg is cool but not worth paying 240 bucks to play it. Love the game tho.

  • elockeelocke Member UncommonPosts: 4,335

I'm going to keep my preorder too. However, the lifetime sub for this game isn't enticing enough. I just don't see Crypic patching there games the way companies like Turbine or Mythic do, with awesome content updates for free a few times a year. I'm even hesitant on the $15 a month fee, at least for now based on what I've seen.

Don't get me wrong, the game is fun, however it is currently only a "game" and not an MMORPG "world" that makes me play those other games. When it grows beyond the bounds of what it is now, then I might see the need for the price. Otherwise, I'll probably play this one in chunks of time, a month here a month there in between other games' patches and such. Prove me wrong Cryptic, please.

HELL YEAH, space combat sold me. This is the game I expected. Didn't set the sky as the limit so I am not even close to being let down. This will be a well spent $80 on the CE and well worth the monthly sub.

Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

After about a week of playing STO, I've decided to renege on my previous comment. The game just isn't worth buying or paying a monthly sub for. They just patched a fairly good sized patch with lots of stuff, and yet, I'm still grinding space/ground combat missions and nothing else. I went to visit Vulcan and walked about 100 steps and realized there was nothing to do in the zone I landed in except look at a cool statue in the distance.

I walked into Quarks bar on DS9 and found nothing to do, no Dabo Girls, no minigames, nothing. Sorry, this is what has made my decision final, lack of immersion/other than combat gameplay. I want an MMORPG not a Star Trek version of an old classic Pirates! which I might add had more complexity to it than this STO offers.

Switched my preorder to FF13 instead, since that comes out March 3rd. Can't go wrong with Square. :D

Trying and deciding for yourself doesn't really go with preordering. If you've preordered, you're gambling and hoping.

I pre-ordered from Amazon for the Borg Bridge Officer and will be keeping it. I don't think I'll get the lifetime sub but I'm not definite either way. The things I enjoy:

Space combat - I enjoy maneuveringmy Federation Cruiser to try to keep both phaser banks bearing on the enemy while keeping my weakest shields away from him and as a Klingon making strafing runs in my Bird of Prey.

Ground combat -  being part of a small team of NPC is fun although some of the ground content needs to improve a bit as I'm sure it will over time.

    It's Star Trek - I've been a trekkie for over 30 years.

Not fantasy - I am tired of elves, dwarves and orcs.

After playing beta since about two weeks since it started, I decided the game isn't worth it.  It has no depth to it, much like Champions, which, unfortunately I bought the 6 month sub and only played a few weeks.  The game has the same feeling I got after playing Champions for that few weeks after launch.  I was lucky enough to be in one of the first groups invited after the beta announcement, and though it was a bit fun at first, I saw how this could get old quick...again, much like Champions.  Cryptic fooled me once, and if I hadn't gotten a beta key, they may have fooled me again.

Thanks, because I didn't really know how I felt about the game after the last year of following it and posting facts on this site. So glad I have posters like you available to set me straight. /rolleyes

I'm keeping my pre-order cause I like it.. simple.

  • RohnRohn Member UncommonPosts: 3,730

I'm keeping my preorder.  To be honest, it's more fun than I thought it would be.  I really like the space combat a ton, and the away team combat has grown on me a lot - I like it quite a bit too.  I like the structure of the episode missions, in that they generally have multiple stages, so they aren't just the standard single-objective quests you get in most other games.

So far, STO is one of the more addictive games I've played in a while.

I certainly don't consider STO to be my personal Holy Grail, but at the end of the day, it's Trek and fun.

Yup, it really is that simple.

Definately keeping my pre-order. Having a great time playing. Federation all the way.

Well, maybe a Borg if they become a player race. Love to assimilate. "Resistance is futile!"
