The only real enjoyment a westerner can get from MMO's these days is watching YouTube videos of them. By the time we get to actually play them, the entire eastern world will be playing something orders of magnitude better.  And then again our best MMO experience will be watching someone in a land far away play what we will probably never get.

Most mmos that come out of the east are complete garbage. This game is eye candy but like Aion has a steep leveling curve that requires constant grinding to level. Wheres the fun in that?

That's complete bullcrap. Come back when you've tried the game dumbass. I've played the game and it's nothing like Aion, any other Asian MMORPG or any other MMORPG in the whole world for that matter. It's getting ridiculous how people don't give Korean MMORPGs the benefit of doubt just because they haven't enjoyed any earlier ones. It's just like me saying I don't like American MMORPGs because I didn't like AoC, WAR or DDO. Give the game the benefit of doubt and try it out once it's in open beta, because this game is nothing like anything you've ever tried so far. And do note that the game is not developed by NCsoft nor is it maintained by NCsoft in any way.

To answer the OP's question. The game is going to be released sometime this year for both Korean and western audiences. You can read about this on the official website www.tera-online.com. The game is currently undergoing focus group testing in North America to accomodate the game for western audiences and fine tune it for a global release. No one can tell when it will be released this year but it will be released this year and most likely not long after the Korean release since the North American game version is up to date with the Korean version.

Sounds suspiciously like what was said about Aion.

In my time following MMO's, I've found that whatever the developer projects as release, you must multiply by 3 for the truth. If they say 1 month, they mean 3 months. 1 year = 3 years.

It looks promising, but I fully expect that by the time it is available, we will be salivating over Koreas newest toys. It's just not worth anticipating MMO's anymore. But thanks for the info.

That game was made out of the stolen Lineage 3 source code. Yet it wasnt developped by NCSoft...... of course......

The game is being developed in junction with the eastern version, and both are targeted for release this year, 2010!

Yep, summer of 2010! Of course, that is subject to change. But It's not even out in Asia, yet! They seem pretty serious about closing a gap between releases between both areas, and updates between both areas. Unlike NCsoft.

Firstly the game is developed by the people who brought you Lineage 2, one of the best selling MMORPGs of all time. Not that I liked the game too much but you have to give them credit for making such a succesful game.

Secondly, the game was developed from scratch when the developer chief of Lineage 3 got fired for bad leadership. In spite of having such "bad leadership" about 90 of the NCsoft employees resigned and followed him to start Bluehole Studio which now is developing TERA Online as its only project and they plan on focusing on TERA solely to make it a succesful game.

Thirdly, NCsoft isn't going to maintain any servers of TERA, market the game or westernize it. They're not going to be involved at all. Bluehole Studio is a new company and I'll be giving them the benefit of doubt and see what happens.

I agree. Bluehole also seems to be very good at communicating with the community via the forums. They hold discussions and polls on topics and actually listen to what the players say.

How many years?    Umm, less than one.

Korean version is not coming out years ahead of NA version, I'm sure they want the releases as close together as possible.
