As a bit of background, the mmo's that I have played are Swg, Aoc, WAR, TotRo, GW, Planeshift, Runescape, and Darkfall. (Also played a long stream of rts/tbs games and online text based games).
Now, I will admit up front, I am not the biggest fan of MO though at the same time have really nothing against it. Although I am playing Darkfall currently (since beta with on and off quitting/resubbign to the game), I feel that both MO and DF are unique entrees to the genre and I'd prefer to see both entrees to exist and compete together.
Unfortunately, from what I saw in my experience in the game thus far, and going off the rumor that I heard that the game releases end Jan/ early February (correct me on this if mistaken), this game is in a state that has little hope of making it out of the gate. From what I could see from my own experience in the game, the game can hardly be considered being in a Beta state, but rather still in the Alpha process.
Character Creation
This was probably the one redeemable part of the game, atleast by appearance. For those who have played Oblivion, the game has a similar concept set up where you can pick a race, ancestories, and what not. Much time will likely be spent in Char. creation mix and matching different ancestories and racies (as well as modifying age which impacts stats drastically), to create the most balanced character possible.
Unfortunately, the pros of this system become very quickly removed as soon as you get into actually editing the character model. For some reason, SV decided it appropriate for the character to be naked at the character custimization screen so the very first thing a player is introduced to in game is his character's veiny dick.
Moving on, the actualy customization options are very few and in between and have very little impact on the character ingame. As most people who play this game can agree, EVERYBODY looks 99% identical ingame.
The Game - The World
Starting out, their are several different cities to start out at, about 10 if I remember right. Unfortunately, some of the cities contain no guards, so going there will only get you killed by campers. However, even if you do pick a city with "guards" in it, the way the games defense mechanism works is that if a player attacks someone in a city, the player he attacks must type out "guards" in order to get help. This will instantly kill the person attacking him as a man magically appears out of no where and 1 shots him.
While this system of guards may be possible for noobs being attacked by other noobs, a lvled character with a bow will two shot the person way before they can ever hope to call guards on them.
As for the world itself, the world is suprisingly small and poorly designed. Despite a decently looking sky, there are no true day/night cycles in the game and minimal(borderline non existant) vegetation in the game. Everything is just an open plain with very little in it.
The world is littered with invisivle walls on the game's mountaints and falling from a high hight, even if into a river will kill you. This makes travel within the game very linear and leads to further complications due to the game's very small size (about that of a sub-continent in DF). Due to the linearity in the game, it is very easy for guilds to completely lock down travel within the game as there is no way to go around the beaten path.
Combat
The combat is very clunky and boring at that. Sarting out, fighting players will be practically impossible due to two spings draining a person's stamina bar, but even as a player levels his toon, combat generally just turns into players running a way. To target people (to tag a name), a player must look directly at someone and hit tab. Their is no pointing interface however, as is the case in DF, nor any visual indication of who is targeted. This leads to problems when everyone in the game looks the exact same.
Lag
The game can currently not support large engagements (more than a dozen or so people without crapping out). Due to the open pvp nature of the game and the inevitability of zergs in the game, this will likely cause weeks of heartache within the game due to continual server crashes.
Comments
Good read. I agree with some of it.
PS - If someone attacks you for you saying "BETA", just tell them it has 2 weeks until its launched due to running out of money.
Its a known fact..MO is in pre alfa stage..needs years of time in the making to be near release...why are there people that even with the suposed human inteligence think that the game is good?
Yes, it should get delayed at least 6 months on their current build, they can't even get the AI fixed right now. And they are suppose to release in 2 weeks? I wish they would tell us an official date instead of delaying it every time a newsletter is released.
I agree with you OP. They should sell the game, or just disband it at its current state!
op is correct
I agree with this as well.
I think this open Stress Test that they are supposed to have next week will blow the lid off MO.Finally everyone that is curious will have a chance to see for themselves. I predict the vast majority cannot even get on and give up.. the ones that do get on will quickly see the reality.
Perhaps I am wrong and in the next few days they will produce a miracle patch that will entice the hordes of players....guess we will know in a few days.
All time classic MY NEW FAVORITE POST! (Keep laying those bricks)

haha yea, thats going to be pretty bad. Just think about how the patcher is going to work (it will be down the entire time) and people playing from a folder on their desktop will not be good either. This is going to get pretty bad when the stress test happens lol...
If it doesn't get the "worst launch in MMO history" award , it just might still be able to claim the "most under-developed game release ever" award.
I cant stop laughing, sorry.
It is pretty awful. I have high hopes for the future of the game, but its going to be bad if it releases in its current state. I've beta tested a ton of games, none have ever been in this poor of a condition so close to a supposed launch.
This is the most honest anti-purchase thread so far.
The current state of the game, wouldn't be worth paying for the subscription, for most people. Not to mention the ubsurdly high initial purchase price. If game's have niche playerbases, this one is gonna be the niche of a already fps/mmo niche market. How they will support future development is beyond me.
