LOL i dont think it will go under that quick as most mmo's can stay afloat with a small base of players. Let not doom and gloom games until well after they are out.
(AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Still waiting for Mass Effect 2!)
All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care. Playing: ESO, WOT, Smite, and Marvel Heroes
Hehe 3 months might be a bit soon for that. CO is, from what I've read, close to an all-time fail and hasn't been closed down yet. AoC and WAR are still alive after a year and a half.
There will be enough people desperate for a Star Trek MMO that they'll keep 50k or so subs for a year no matter how bad the game is.
Unfotunately this train-wreck of a game will continously have more subscriptions than a dozen other much better games simply because of the Star Trek franchise tag.
So frustrating. Makes me wonder how huge the game could be if it was developed by a quality company.

QFT. STO will be around much longer than it deserves.
But who knows? Maybe Cryptic will actually improve the game after launch to warrant a second look..
I feel bad for TR, it was a great game really, lots of potential but was too shallow in content past level 30 and pvp was almost non-existant. I think there was a feud between Garriot & NCSoft which led to its closure, I'm hoping someday someone picks up TR and reopens it or creates an emu.
TBH, it wouldn't surprise me if STO becomes another Auto Assault, it's one of those games I know I wouldn't last even 3 months in.
Tabula Rasa was better than STO in every single way but the Star trek fans will keep this alive. Even Champions online was alot better imo and its no doing very good. I think Atari/Crypitc will recoup the cost of STO just by the Lifetime subs they will sell to Trek fans who dont know better (but deserve better) since everything about the game is so cheap.
I tried to like STO but never before have I flet such an urge to exit a MMO when trying it. The uninstall was very fast though.
If WoW = The Beatles and WAR = Led Zeppelin Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
STO won't fall apart like CO did, but it will eventually decay. I think it will do about as well as CoX(though probably sell more boxes), which, for an IP that big, isn't that great.
Cool. Finally I have found somebody that can see into the future. Can you mail me the lotto numbers for next week please. As we are on a troll thread can I just say all online games suck and people who play them are nothing but sad lossers. Now if you dont mind i'll got back to killing no lifers in Warhammer online whilst I wait for STO to be released
Seeing as how many posters just prior to release have proclaimed WAR/AoC/Darkfall/Aion 'a huge success' while others have ranted them 'epic failures' ...and both sides were wrong, I dont think anyone can predict how STO will be. I expect it will be neither as good nor as bad. I wager it will still be around with a ~50-100K dedicated fans playing

They still sell boxes? HEH, it's all about digital downloads these days, Direct2Drive, Steam, Filefront/Fileplanet, etc.
95% of what you see in beta won't change by launch.
Hope is not a stategy. ______________________________ "This kind of topic is like one of those little cartoon boxes held up by a stick on a string, with a piece of meat under it. In other words, bait."
The game is unlikely to die any time soon. It's very cheap to keep a game alive on minimal life support. The VAST majority of costs in this model are sunk up front in development. Which means there is ALOT of incentive to keep a game alive on life support if it's making even a dime more than base operating costs. That's why you see so few MMO's close down completely. The big question is...does the game make enough money to keep staff on for significant on-going development? I honestly have no clue where STO stands with that.
I actually don't think it's a horrible game... I gave it a 5 out of 10 rating in my review. It IS a big disappointment from what a Trek game COULD have been. However, despite the hype, it's been pretty clear to me for a long time that the Developer (Cryptic) was going for an Egg McMuffin rather then a Lobster Dinner. That seems to be pretty much their business model anyways. From a relative standpoint...they built the game on the quick/cheap model. So it shouldn't be too hard to get some ROI on it.... and that will keep it "alive" at least from a basic services standpoint.
The only big question mark in that equation is what sort of deal they made for the license? Only the insiders know that... but that is a wild-card thrown into what should otherwise be a pretty easy to figure out equation. It IS a big name IP...so there might be some big cost/strings attached to the license. If they are paying alot for it...or if they have some sort of minimum subscription/profit numbers they have to meet to keep it...can have a major influence over the games future... and frankly none of us on the outside are really going to know about that.

This is why I cant take you guys seriously ...lol... Tabula Rasa, a better game than STO in every single way. Not even close.
This game has the same thing going for it that SWG, WoW, and LotR did. It has a very popular franchise label that will automatically give it life of a few years. To compare this to TR is insane. This game will bring in thousands of MMORPG newbies who have never touched the genre only because of their love of Star Trek. Some of them will stay, some of them will go, but Star Trek has such a loyal following, it's going to give this game extended life whether or not it's a polished or flawed product.

Nah not that bad, it will be more like this

And thats pretty much a guarantee at this point in time unless some things drastically change very soon lol.
lol

But seriously, I know what you mean.
Wow you guys are awsome, im to want to be able to predict the future. Masters, teach me!!
Anyway, you can carry on and find a new game and thoose of us who choose to play STO will do so.
Cya.
Haha! I have to admit that this is pretty funny!
However, I think Trek has too much of a built in fan base for it to collapse like TR after only 3 months.
Bit harsh
Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy
lol, more nonsense from armchair developers.
There is NO miracle patch.

Not 3 months, it went from Oct 2007 to Feb 2009.

When are all you internet psychics going to start posting something useful like next weeks poweball/megabucks, instead of these useless posts........
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
This is the most original topic on this website. 'X MMO will die in X number of months'.
How come no one else ever thought of this before? OP you are a genius.
Don't need to be psychic to recognize a bad video game.
Don't need to be psychic to recognize a bad video game.
But you got be psychic to know in how many months it will die.
It is going to be something like this....
