SO glad the plans for the 360 were scrapped. The Final Fantasy series has always been more for the PlayStation than the Xbox anyway. That is, after they stopped making it for Nintendo.
I have a lot of respect for a company that goes exclusive on a console because it goes to show they aren't selling out and just trying to grab as much money as possible. I'd like the Xbox if you didn't have to pay to go online, because when an MMO rolls around, then things start getting really expensive, REALLY quick. And for a lot of people like me, I go to college full-time and live in an apartment- I can't afford three different fees just to play an MMO.
I think all of you that are expecting MS to jump back on should either just buy it for the PC or get a PS3 and deal with it. Once the game gets slated with a release date, most likely a contract will be held between Square and Sony to keep it only on the PS3 (with the obvious exception of the PC for the MMO world, of course).
what's so hard about paying a fee for xbox live? for a small cost, you get a far superior multiplayer experience. yes ps3 is free, but the proof is in the quality. they cant sustain a mmo with no upkeep fees. they can barely sustain modern warfare 2. as for square-enix dropping 360? no big deal, its their loss really. if you ask me, they are throwing sony a bone. most of their scripts will be PCers.

Like people said, its just more money to pay, and most people will end up going to either PC or PS3 when they hear they have to pay for Gold and the normal monthly fee. WHy M$ is being so greedy after being easy going enough to have FFXI on silver baffles me, they even said from the start of the system that all MMOs would be useable from silver. I understand why SE doesnt want to put time and resourses into a product that won't be used nearly as much by a majority of the consumer base is a waste. In the end most people who really want to play this MMO and want to save some money from XBLG will end up on one of the other platforms.
There is still a chance they will budge and you will have a 360 version, but it would end up being at minimal 6+ months later. You also have to consider that if they make it for 360, they have to work with that systems limits. Though the X360 is great it's from a technical standpoint, not a powerful in some aspects to the PS3, putting even more limits on what they can do with it in the future.
A real gamer who truely wants to play this game, will dish out for a PS3 or upgrade their PC rig. I lucky save up money and own all the current gen systems, i do't like missing out, especially on RPGs which has been in a drought on both systems, so the more i can get my hands on the better (im looking forward to White Knight Chronicals, which is a PS3 exclusive)
and as for them not being able to handel "upkeep fees" well that actually has nothing to do with sony. PS3 online is only free because they dont provide servers for their games, the Companys do. X360 makes you pay (and clearly uses advertisements on XBL) to pay for use of their personal servers, so the performance is superior. Having an MMO on either platform will have NO effect on how it runs connection wise, becuase its running soley on SE's servers (hence why you can play FFXI on silver)

The actual argument had to do with Microsoft wanting a portion of the monthly fees that Square Enix would be charging for the game, something like 5-10% of the monthly cost. I wish I still had the article, but MS is way out of line there.
I'm glad it isn't going to the 360, and I wish it wasn't heading to the PS3.
If MMOs spread to those consoles it'd only be a matter of time before all MMOs did it and we'd start seeing computers become simple facebook and twitter hubs.

game consoles are basically just becoming PCs that have games in mind. MMOs will sooner or later be more and more prevalint on consoles, it just makes sense bussiness wise these days. And now that we know were heading to a digital age where eventually everything will be "cloud" gaming like Onlive, consoles wont be anything like they are.

Thats the kind of nonsense I expect from a 360 fanboy. I play MW2 on PS3 almost daily and don't have a problem with lag unless I jump in a room with someone using a lag switch or crappy connection. I have no beef with 360 I just hate how M$ tries to nickel and dime you to death. Like others said SE did not drop 360 M$ is trying to weasel in on some of the monthly profits. If your paying for live for games like MW2 and other games thats just fine. Its not fair to pay for live and then have to turn around and pay for a MMO monthly.

Haha, well in the case of the 360 that is turning into a facebook hub also (man I hate that site), But yeah computers are just internet hubs now, (Hence the reson the MAC is doing so well)
But yeah I don't/wouldn't mind paying for the gold AND the monthly from SE (shoot i'm going to be doing that anyways) But MS is way outa line with wanting 5-10% of SE's cost. they need that money for the servers and expansions. And SE is upkeeping there servers with the gold subscription...
bleh..... I really don't want to get a PS3 (and don't think I could afford a new PC)

What do you mean matter of time. They already have ! 200$ netbooks not notebook but netbooks. They use the new atom dual core and u get 8-10 hours of battery life on a 3 6 7 inch screen
dude think predator the little thing he had attached to him are. ITS HERE, i dont have the link but its was showcased as some hardware convention. is a 1.5lbs netbook that you strap on to your arm.

in all technical respects console are pc's, but have 90% of the cpu's program removed and diffrent logic( programing) put into it so that is does only a set # of things. that why ps3 and xbox arent allowed to be sold in certain countries because they can be converted into powerful equiment for riggin bombs and rockets ( dual technology or something like that) . what you will see in the future however isnt what you think. Sony is making its own windows basically. all of your online stuff will be enabled in every facet to your ps4, making most computers obsolete. Pc's will be back to what they once were, they will be used for programming, high end calculation. Or the opposite will happen, where the netbook will become king as you will have a small device latch onto you arm that does everything all gaming will be on 1 simple platform and only the best games will win because its all on 1 platform, so the users( US) will get better content because once the fight for equipment supremacy is over, software will come.

Plans haven't been scrapped, it's still a work in progress. They went through this same ordeal with XI and I'm sure it will work itself out eventually. How can you say that the series has always been more of a Playstation thing than Xbox....you have no proof to say otherwise because until XIII is released the only other FF title playable for the 360 is XI.
You really need to stop being so closed minded and look at the bigger picture, they do these things for money...how else are they going to continue on making games? Bank loans? Multiplatform == sellout.....releasing games with bugs and glitches that severely hamper gameplay (I'm looking at you Legacy of Kain: Defiance >= ) ....that's a true definition of a sellout....

PC's have the benefit of being constantly updated whereas consoles have an intended life of multiple years. This gives PC's the that sustainable edge.

which is ture, but consoles don't need to be updated half as much (and don't cost half as much) . Everything is built to work on it, there is no fidiling with things so it cant work with thousands of diffrent set ups, nor is it nearly as complicated to deal with for the more casual people. Of course with that being said a PC is used for quite a bit more then gaming. if your looking at it from a gaming prespective, then consoles win for sure, but as an all around thing, PCs obvoiusly come out on top. Like most things, they all have their ups and downs

I don't see what the problem is. I would say that the majority of people who own an xbox have xbox live. It's not like xbox live is expensive. It's under $5 a month, it's not like MS is making you pay $15 a month or anything like that. The trade off is well worth it. You can't deny that xbox live is a MUCH better online experience than what sony has to offer.
To those people complaining about it costing too much look at it this way. You are already paying $20-30 or more for internet a month and your willing to pay $15 a month for an mmo sub, you can pay another $4 for xbox live

Uh no...a gold subscription pretty much only unlocks the ability to play multi-player games online through Live. You can do everything else free with a silver account as far as I recall when I had a 360.{recently netflix is it requires gold?} If all I or someone else wanted was a 360 only to play FFXIV then its truly not fair to make us pay $15 for the subscription, plus an additional $4 a month for Live services we wouldn't be using!
I had my 360 for 6-8 months and I never played anything but 1P RPGs, and the occasional indie title, I had absolutely no use for a gold sub cause I don't play multi-player titles unless its an MMO! So until M$ decides to allow FFXIV to be played via a silver account like they did with FFXI, it'll never be released on 360!
Played it on PC, thought it was horrible; both solo and multi-player modes. I don't like guns much and greatly prefer to stick with fantasy {swords and sorcery all the way!}
I had absolutely no use for a gold sub cause I don't play multi-player titles unless its an MMO! You are missing out on a great co-op game called Borderlands... it's one of the best co-op games ever made.
Have it on PC. Biggest piece of trash I've played. Huge multiplayer issues.
It's NOT the Diablo 2 or Phantasy Star replacement I've been waiting for. WTB Diablo 3.

Well SE did say they were in negotiations with MS still, the problem is Microsoft, and because they want a cut monthly fee, that or they would want to make you use Xbox Live gold to use it, which means you would have to pay an extra 7$ a month ontop of you most likely 15$, which would be just brutal. Microsoft thinks in $$, which I can't say I blame but they should look at the larger picture, some people will go by a cheaper Xbox 360, so they can play FFXIV on it alone. that would drive their sales up on their systems, which in the long run would give them alot of money. For the time being though, PS3 has console exclusiveness. Which is fine in my book for the time being, I do wan't more people to get into FFXIV though, so I hope 360 does get a port of the game withing a year of release.
Comments
Blame MS for being greedy pretty much. They don't want SE to use Silver accounts like they did for XI.
To be the best, you must help each other become the best.
FFXI Character: Satimasu
FFXI Server: Valefor
FFXIV Character: Tamorae Fonteil
Greedy Bastards, I have gold still release for me? lol

Wow you guys are really close-minded. If you don't like shooters that's one thing but to say the game is horrible? That's just silly.
