Disappointed! Thats what resume my impression, at least on open beta. The game is not bad if u have never played any MMO before. But for me it just looks like Cryptics has not learn anything since COH/COV (that i find very fun, not copmplex, not really very complete or imersive but definitely fun). Gonna wait untill the official version is released but i doubt its gonna change my impression.
Same thing happend with Champions Online, i had so many expectations for that game. Since COH/COV was a good game i thought CO would be an improvement, a better game, but it wasnt. At least IMHO. Now STO, darn i thought i would love it. And i am trying to enjoy it, really, but i just couldnt so far.
Too bad.
Btw, MMORPG, apprentice member? 160 posts since 2005! I know if i keep posting a lot in a short period of time it will raise my status but you have to agree im not new around here, even if i post just once in a while
You know what, to be honest. The game is terrible, dumb, stupid, boring, i try to like it because i paid and i wanted it to be great but i just cant, no matter how much i wanted it to be a good game its a total crap. Thats it.

There a pretty big difference in quality between STO and CO

Sadly, I don't think there is. Both games have no depth and lack immersion. STO was made using the same engine as CO. I think the quality is the same....bad.

Graphics are really nice in all Cryptics games. But still STO sux and graphics didnt get better over the years or the games, thats my point.
Yeah I agree. CO had not only great gfx but only a very fun first 15 levels or so. But after that you noticed there wasnt much more to it. Nemesis systems was a bit bland and Open Missions seemded a but pointless (and a ripoff from Mythics Public Quests) and the game had basically no end game to speak of.
I think STO will be pretty much the same. Fun to play for a while but will quickly get boring since it lacks depth and end game.
In some crazy "less-than-a-week-before-release" decision, the game that was tested and balanced for over 3 months of testing was suddenly thrown overboard 5 days before release. A space combat that was almost unanimously lauded as 'fun and the best of the game' was destroyed. A series of buffs to players' ships made battles ridiculously easy. If you like playing in god mode, then you may like it. But if you like fun battles where you actually have to press more than 1 button, stay away. All it took was a couple of open beta posts in the forums about 'battles are too hard' (they were not), and Cryptic went into PMS mode, changing everything that had been tested and balanced in closed beta. Buy at your own risk.
[Mod Edit]
The sharp decrease in difficulty was a bug. The developers found this out and corrected it in a subsequent patch.

I have asked and no one is talking. It seems safe to assume that there is no end game, or it sucks. If it was good, we would have all kinds of supporters telling us about it.

The reason nobody is talking is because nobody hit the level cap in time to see what it was like.

Arguing that there's end-game content, but it is almost completely untested isn't really a winning argument.

How can anyone really give an opinion on a portion of the game that no one reached?
The reason nobody is talking is because nobody hit the level cap in time to see what it was like.
Funny how that works out, isn't it? Slow downloads, lots of downtime, and level caps. No wonder people didn't get to end game then, is it? So Cryptic calls it an Open Beta, but we don't get to see most of the game.
What about closed Beta?

Except I wasn't arguing that there is, in fact, end-game content. I was merely pointing out the reason for lack of opinions expressed on this.
I played closed beta and open beta,.................... I wasn't impressed. Another cookie cutter MMO like Champion's Online. I wanted it to be good, too.

Ahh, sorry about that. Must still be in shock over CO revealing it actually does have an Item Mall like F2P games such as DDO.
That shocked you?
Ehh, before Blurr had a bit of an argument about it. I still thought the cosmetic stuff was pretty unforgivable for a Superhero game (costume and power look is EVERYTHING in such a game). Character slots and respects were sinful as well. However, a new zone that provides no more levels and requiring people to pay for it...that's a much deeper low for their store and is definitely indefensible (Blurr even can't defend it or we can toss a previous post of his back at him where he said such things were no good).
That said, I would not have bet against Cryptic doing it. I am a bit surprised by the sheer audacity of it when they've basically released no new content for that game and the game isn't even 6 months old.
It's like OJ Simpson's book, I guess. I wouldn't have said such a thing was too underhanded for him, but I it was very surprising he had it published.

Isn't that the great thing bout level gating? You can hopefully prevent players from rushing to the end and seeing you got nothing meaningful there
I dont know Cryptic doesnt just pursue infinite leveling. I thought that was supposed to be the plan for STO. City of Heroes really could've used that as well cause there was nothing to do for yrs at endgame when I played (pre ncsoft buyout, pre-IOs)

I had discussions with Blurr about CO around the time it was launching.
He sure does like Cryptic a lot.
I asked him about STO's end game, and no reply. Funny about that.
I think Blurr must have some stock in Cryptic somehow or something. Maybe he's a lifetimer. If i had a long term vested interest in a product I'd probably defend it no matter what too lol
So you are reviewing a game that hasn't even been released yet? Brilliant. What's next, going to a restaraunt and reviewing the meal before it arrives? LOL. Next....
Ummm. Hate to break it to ya, but we've, umm, been playing the game, as intended for its content, mechanics and game-play for the last couple weeks or so;the same afformentioned content, mechanics, and game-play for 'official' release in a week or so.
In case your not aware, open Beta is preview, a mechanism for early orders, a fishing expedition for life-time memberships. To the extent that this game needs to change in order for the preview feedback I've seen to equate to something remotely "mainstream" or "palatable" would take an act of God. And I think God is busy right now.
Wrong. They just introduced the skill point cap which is a huge change in gameplay. They also removed the level cap which was limiting content and changed mob difficulty and AI which affects game mechanics. LOL.
They did exact same thing in Champions beta. Well instead of applying a level cap they just nerfed the crap out of mob XP.
They also buffed the mobs in a huge way and nerfed every player by making our defenses weak
They basically kicked everyone in the nuts right before launch just like this game
They are such horrible devs now. EVen worse since city of heroes from what I'm seeing. But maybe they were always horrible and I've just gotten experienced enough to recognize their poor quality at face value

That's the point. If it was good, Cryptic would have wanted us to see it, so we could encourage others to buy the game.
