PC/PS2 servers shutting down

The game is going under finally. They are shutting down the PC/PS2 american/european servers for good at the end of march. They are making the game f2p for two months, then its gone. The x-box 360 game will still be around, and the japanese servers of PC/PS2 servers will be up. Just like they did for blue burst, they give less and less updates then shut it down saying no one is playing and move on to their new game. If Sega kept up with updates, didn't have billing servers over in europe instead of in the US, there would actually be players, but Japan just seems like they don't want us playing their games.

5 years for a game that never got a REAL update and was milked for every last bit of content on a CD I would say that's an impressive run.  Lets be honest there was not much to the game a GREAT combat system yes, awesome smooth controls yes, but game play wise? Grind the same map because its only place to find people over and over and over again and then grind high lvl maps in S rank to get good drops. I mean really? No real mmo features to keep players who wanted a bit more depth around. 

 

I saw PSO as an online action game more than an mmorpg. In that light 5 year life span is damn good. 

 

I would say PSO had a fantastic life span and a great run for what it was.

5 years? The game was little over 3 years old.

I'm not surprised the PS2/PC servers shut down. The PS2 just doesn't have a big online community and the PC have far better free alternatives.



Maybe if they actually updated the game instead of just unlocking stuff, it would have been more popular.

The only way Sega knows how to upgrade anything is to Release a new standalone game of the same title and just let the other one hemorrhage until no one wants to play it anymore, despite that Japan gets all the updates and events and new items of the same title. They did it with blue burst and PSU, now they're doing it with PSZero and PSU, soon it will be with PSP2 and PSZero
