Acclaim was bought out by playdom which doesn't do games like spellborn in otherwords There will be no redevelopment . Its been tossed on the scrape pile and unless a good company like blizzard or someone else buys it and fixes seening that it was a diamond in the rough then It is offically dead. There is no support, the downloader is broke and Now even the work arounds that the dedicated players discovered no longer work so thers no way to even get on, its just a matter of time before someone stops paying the bill for the server. Most likly other companies will see that the mix of MMO and FPS styles that spellborn did is a great platform for a pay to play game and copy the idea, instead of buying and fixing what possiably could have been the best game of the decade.
Spellborn faithful and definetly most notorious player,
In June 2009, the developers of Spellborn, Spellborn Works, went bankrupt. One of the publishers, Acclaim, announced the following month that the game would be re-developed as a free-to-play game supported by microtransactions. The new version would be released sometime after 2010, and until then the free-to-play version would remain active. But now it has been cancelled. Now it will no longer be played by Acclaim or any other company.[4]
Acclaim CEO Howard Marks has updated fans of The Chronicles of Spellborn with some details on the status of the re-development of the game, which was originally announced back in June of '09.
Below is an excerpt from the post made to the official Spellborn forums:
The rumors are true! Spellborn Version Two is on the way. The developer has released the new version in Japan, and based on the success of that launch and the fine tuning of the game, we will keep you informed as to when we shall launch the English version of the game. When we do, we will be inviting registered players of the old version, who have valid email addresses on file, to become our beta players.
Not much, but a sign of life is better than nothing! In the meantime, the free-to-play version of The Chronicles of Spellborn is still up and running.
Are you looking forward to Spellborn V. 2.0? Let us know in the comments below!
I loved a lot about the original TCoS, from the visuals and art style to the rotating bar and character development, but it was obvious that it was pushed out at least a year too early and was hugely unfinished.
IF they have used the Asian revenue to fix and improve the game, rather then spending all on generating cash shop crap, then 2.0 could be actually a great MMORPG.
Still, whatever, I am glad it still has life, it's actually a distincitve and imaginative game and world and deserves it. I very probably won't be playing it this time around though with a cash shop tacked on, which is sad.

Damn got excited when i just saw this pop up on the forum feed.... It's just an old thread necro'd
The Asian version of Spellborn lasted around 2 months, and hence Spellborn is dead and buried for good. Such a shame, but seems we'll never walk the shards again.

oh, I didnt notice that, thats a shame, but thx for pointing it out.
TCoS is one of those games I would buy if I won the lottery (along with VG and TR). With love and attention it could still be great. I just took a look at my SS from when I played, and it still looks better GFX wise then pretty much any MMORPG out right now to me.

Haha i was thinking the same thing - if i had a spare million just lying around
yeah the game did look amazing, i still feel it was just 'too different' for it's own good, and well before its time. And just for old times sake :-

Ahh yeah, nice
I had real issues with the uploader here, but heres a small tinypic folder of some stuff I took... still looks great imo.
I loved the game followed it while it was P2P and then tried when it went F2P. I loved the concept, the art, the graphics and found the combat unique and refreshing. As long as it isn't a Pay to Win type F2P and a more of a DDO type P2P I"ll give it a shot.
With that said, when I played I could and still can play any MMO at max settings with no lag or problems graphically. This was true for all games but Spellborn, and according to the devs at the time it was because the game had issues with my system. Since then I have gotten a new system and hope it doesn't have the same visual lag issues. It was quite frustrating no matter the settings or resoultion it would screw up.
The ease with which predictions are made on these forums: Fratman: "I'm saying Spring 2012 at the earliest [for TOR release]. Anyone still clinging to 2011 is deluding themself at this point."
Well, at least Hellgate is coming back, if they could do the same for TR and polish it up that'd be great too
And while we're at it, let some other company get Vanguard and breathe some life in it, some MMO's just have so much potential that it's a shame how it gets wasted or shut down.

Exactly. Couldnt agree more.
If I won that mythical lottery TR and VG,as well as TCoS, would be on my shopping list to buy for a pittance, polish up and relaunch.
More companies need to go down this route as start ups imo... to get experience in the genre before committing to making their own. It will be interesting to see how it works out for G&H... if they make money then I can see more following the sameroad.

Well, i thought it would be a game with quests such as fable...
Not only online game... :x
That's why i ask if it was possible to play it yet... even if the servers shutdown -__-
TBh, someone should buy this game, retool it using it's existing assets and adding GW style henchmen, and release it as a single player RPG.
With the shardships etc for alternate play in the future Spellborn could be a great little IP.
Crap. I got interested until I saw that this was old, ooold news. Necro thread
