well im just wondering if i should buy this game. it looks good and i dont mind that its only 10vs10, ive never really played any big 50vs50 or 100vs100 shooters. i like cod4 and im fine with the 6vs6. the game looks great, but you cant really go by how it "looks". so thats why i want some player feed back. hows PvP part of the game? is the shooting good? does it take a full clip to kill a person like halo, or is it 3 shot kills like cod4? im really only interested in the PvP aspect of the game. could really care less about the PvE, but if if there, ill play it.

My opinion is it's worth buying, even if you only want to play the free content. It's a ton of fun and runs really well. The graphics are terrific (although the running animation is a bit weird imho), I love the sound and music, and the overall fun factor is through the roof as far as I'm concerned.
Now if you're into competetive PvP, I'd say GA will really impress you. Check out the new Conquest video MMORPG.com posted a day or two ago for a taste of what it's like.

thanks dude
I agree with the maelstrom here. I'm very very critical on almost all MMOs. For this being an "mmofps" .. keeping in mind that it IS an FPS. NOT an RPG with an open world, this game is for sure worth buying. Even if you don't sub, for free content this is worth while and rather amazing. It has a feel of TF2 , Tribes, Halo, and Planetside all smushed together with some RPG feel to it.
The pvp and even the PVE is a lot of fun, even to the casual gamer.

I gotta say that I bought the game and love it.
Its an FPS with persistant features.
The non-sub part is great for the general FPS action.
I've been playing about 90% pvp and leveling just fine.
The gameplay is fast. There are Tribes elements smushed with some other games.
Its relatively easy to kill someone. You dont need a whole "clip" but you might find it doesn't play like a regular FPS in that sense. There are 4 classes with different playstyles that add a huge dynamic to the combat as some are less direct damage oriented.
It's definitely worth getting, but I would only really recommend the free content. Unfortunately I see this becoming a trend and they're going to need some kind of F2P market to keep the game going. The AvA while cool conceptually boils down to rapid fire matches while the area is unlocked, but coated with a double thick layer of FPS clan bullshit which is pervasive of the genre. If you LIKE for some ungodly reason all the bullshit associated with FPS clan politics, have at it. Otherwise, don't even bother, as even attempting anything to do with conquest requires permission from some clan leader. It also has the usual cocky FPS asshats but that's to be expected.
tl;dr version: Get it, but don't bother with AvA/Agencies
Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

thanks guys. i think ill pick this up, but it probably wont be for a few weeks. i just hope the game doesn't die off in a month or two...
also do any of you know if there is, or will be, a retail version of this game? i would rather buy it from gamestop or wal-mart, but if i have to buy it from steam, thats what ill do. and ordering the box version is close to $70 (with S&H) on there site...
I haven't done any Conquest yet, since it just started up today, but this plays really well. The Jetpack is fun as shit, the game is smooth and handles really well.
I've just played AvA tonight until our map close and it's really fun. Now you feel the pressure when you play a match. Should you attack now ? Do you have a task force to protect your other hex during the attack, just in case ?
You can feel the tribes effect, when you're about to finish an opponent and he tries to run away, taking cover around boxes or whatever. You fly to him, trying to get that little more angle needed to finish him off. If you fly better than he runs, you toast him. Or you can get out of situations really hopeless. jetpack skills are rewarded. Not too much (overkill) but just enough.
I've played a ...lets say ... "commando medic". I was bored at my team being too static and I've flanked an enemy group installing stuff around a corner. It's fun, it's just fun. You run into a pack, shoot around then take cover, aim at a deployable and destroy it. Shoot carefuly an opponent who tries to rush you, melee him, outdamage him by playing with reverse shield, melee, gun..(take his health pack from his corpse, just like in tribes). then fly to another point to get another angle.
It felt like harrassing a defense in tribe's katabatic, when you do the danse in the enemy underground base, from inventory station to anther (for those who knows katabatic).
I don't know if the impression will last, maybe I'll be bored in a month, who knows ? But for now, I'm quite happy with my investment, even if I don't subscribe, the game is worth it. Too bad they don't release a demo. Honestly It's worth trying if you're an FPS fan (not a MMO fan, but now you should see the big picture).
In the free part of this game, is there plans for alot of new content, or will it be mostly for the sub fee for new content. I really want to get this game, but just pray that content will be rolling in.
In my opinion, it certainly looks alot better than most of what's out today. Very pretty and artistic feel to it.
PvP plays like TF2 mixed with Tribes and Battlefield (on smaller scale maps than BF, though). Very competitive and -very- fun. Shooting has a standard hitbox system. Lag is nonexistant basically so shots hit when they're supposed to hit. It can take anywhere from a full "clip" (which in this case, is "power"), to 3-4 shots based on both your weaponry and skill. Recon is the very damage oriented class for example, but classes like Robotics, which normally wouldn't have the greatest gun, tend to take quite a while to kill with weapons alone (this is why they have drones). PvE is great in Coop with a team for four buds. It's really not at all boring and pretty good for the economic benefits. The PvP is exceptional beyond what I would ever expect out of a game unfunded by a large company (Hirez is both publisher, and developer, and it's their first game).
Hope that helps. I look forward to seeing you in-game.
I have computers; they are fast.
thanks, that did help.
but is it a hit box like that of cod4 and halo, a lock on system like exteel, or like gears of war, where the cross hairs must turn red in order for you to hit the target? i prefer cod4 and halos system. where i can shoot, and somebody could walk into my bullet.
No lock on crap like Section 8, all freehand. However, Robotics drones aim flawlessly and any in their line of site, but it's easy to take cover, and they time out in a matter of seconds.
Hitboxes are not skeletal so, if you miss between the arm and the body, it will still register. This makes little difference, as most combat is too fast paced to notice. It's not that Hirez was lazy, but rather, it's an MMO and meant for large scale gameplay on a single server, skeletal hitboxes require so much CPU useage to calculate hits and what-not. Males and Females both have same hitboxes to make sure everything's all fair, and there's no height customization (with good reason).
I have computers; they are fast.
ok thanks.
i didnt mean like skeletal like that detailed lol but im glad its not like exteel....i hated that targeting system!
ill be getting this game =D
Would you suggest this game to UT instagib player? Played alot at clanbase.com in 2002-2005.
This is one of those games where you just have to forget the stats, facts, bullet points, feature lists, etc and feel the vibe. It might seem odd to be saying this about a computer game but if you judge the game based on its rap sheet, it look pretty weak. However, I think many people find it incredibly good fun once they’ve actually played it.
You mentioned the 10v10 battles. Now some people might say that sucks, but its all relative. Play the game and you’ll find that 20 players on the field is more than enough to provide continuous action and that anymore would just result in chaos. And who knows, maybe later they’ll try to add larger scale battles to appease the people who need to see big numbers to have fun but I personally don’t think they should bother when its already fantastically calibrated.
I do feel the game is a bit RPG-lite and they could definitely pad out some of the missions, etc with some story. But then again, how many people actually read that sh.t anyway? I do, but most people I’ve spoke to just go straight to the ‘Accept Quest’ button.
Due to the skill and teamwork involved, the game does play like a genuine eSport – one of the best imho. And the good thing about the teamwork is that you don’t have to get OTT. Sure you can devise strategies, etc, etc but you can still have a blast by just using common sense and reacting effectively to what’s happening. Teams don’t need to operate with military precision to succeed, just know how to play their classes and check up on their pals. The combat is really intuitive. There are no insta-kill options, which increases the skill required but if you can cope with COD4, you’ll be fine. Just don’t expect to rack-up hundreds of kills per match and don’t think that getting lots of kills will help your side win – there’s much more to it than that.
As far as subbing goes, a lot of that is done to what you like as an individual and whether or not you get into a decent agency/alliance, which isn’t that hard if you’re keen. Right now, there’s just enough AvA content to make me sub, but give it a few months and I expect they’ll have added enough sub content (extra PvE, ect) to attract loads of players. And that’s the difference between GA and games like BBC2, which some guy was harping on about on these forums earlier. I trust that Hi-Rez will definitely add significant amounts of content within the coming weeks and months and the RPG immersion will get better and better. With games like BBC2
The last thing I’ll say is that some people moan there’s not much of this or that in certain parts of the game. That’s like moaning that everyone didn’t have Tier 10 eplix on the day WoW was released! Some things have to be earned and until alliances actually start to develop tech in AvA, there is a lot that you won’t see. As for Tier 10 eplix, the armour in this game looks sh.t hot, is affordable and doesn’t make you unreasonably imba.
Oh and the F2P bit is so good, I'd buy the game for that without hesitation (unless you're particularly strapped for cash).
