Hot off the presses. This was rumored for a while, but it looks like all the legalities for the fallout liscense were worked out. They don't come right out and say it's fallout, but what else could it be?

Cant wait to see how they do the crafting in this game! Fallout 3 was fun with Rock-It Launcher!
(DDDDDDDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH fires plunger at Cryptic Studios from Rock-it Launcher!)
All my opinions are just that..opinions. If you like my opinions..coolness.If you dont like my opinion....I really dont care.

Interplay was a publisher of some of the best RPGames of all time (Baldur's Gate 1, Planescape Torment, Fallout 1, 2) and controlled one of the best dev studio (Black Isle). Most of the people that worked on the original Fallout 1 and 2 (not 3) are now working back in Interplay for this upcoming title.
REALITY CHECK
Awesome. Wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't have the fallout title though.
Everyone has opinions, but does that make them the universal truth??? NO!
Taken from Interplay.com
Project: V13 has been under development at Interplay since November 2007 by some of the original Fallout® creators. Masthead joined the project in early 2009 and development continues under Interplay’s direction and control. Project: V13 will utilize the proprietary tools and MMOG technology Masthead developed for its “Earthrise” project.
Even if it didn't have the Fallout name, in all things it would be a fallout MMO.

We've already seen prototype screens. It's a Fallout MMO.

Never said it wouldn't be a Fallout game, but I guess anything post apocalyptic themed games are Fallout huh?

And this is exactly why I began drooling like a pavlovian dog when I saw the title for this thread. I can't wait for serious details on this!

Old news!!!
Ice cream is old news, doesn't mean I don't get excited when I hear there's some in my freezer.

Final homage to the Fallout we once knew anyone?
No one better to do it than the original devs. So glad Bethesda stopped trying to screw them out of their own IP.
Probably went something along the lines of: "Sorry it's taking so long. Only so many of the original Fallout devs are here and we keep having to reprimand the idiot scrubs every time they screw something up."
Lol. Nah, I'm just kidding. I'm sure it's under control.

I'd LOVE to see it happen. One can only hope. If only to see the spammails: "Bottlecaps for sale! 10,000 for $4.99!"...
I would welcome an opportunity to play a Fallout MMO, especially if it stayed true to its roots.

Edit: I see no news at http://fallout.wikia.com about this. Latest news is that they are still in legal limbo, and Interplay can't come up with the funding necessary as per contractual obligation to Bethesda.
Almost the inverse of fallout 3 then, which wasn't fallout by anything other than name. What a shame that game had to happen to the fallout series.
I would absolutely love to see a WELL MADE fallout mmorpg, but unfortunately i have this horrible feeling that it'd turn out like "Fallout" 3. Can the perfection that is fallout (1&2) really be converted into an mmo?
Btw i'd hate anyone to think that i didn't enjoy "fallout" 3. It was a decent game. It just wasn't fallout
I just wish they'd called it "Post apocalyptic RPFPS 1" and stayed off my beloved, sacred fallout

I never played 1 and 2, but 3 was the best rpg ever made. At least in the last 10 years on PC, and 20 on consoles. I can't stand people that only dwell on the past and mistake nostalgia for wisdom. All series evolve over time. I don't know what you think was so precious about the first two, I've read dozens of similar posts with NO specifics ever.

You weren't there, maaaan /shrug.
The soul of fallout was missing from "fallout" 3. What us fallout die harders feel sad about is:
a) They revisited the fallout series and didn't show the world what fallout really was - they could have done so much better if they'd only injected some of the fallout soul. That's why you don't understand my viewpoint - you don't know what the game could have been!
b) They put my favourite title's tag on something sub-standard, and that upsets me. Like star wars fans who don't like 1-3.
But there's REALLY no need to tell me that you can't stand me - why would you do that? There's no need to accuse me of misplaced wisdom - any percieved wisdom in my post was in the eye of the reader, i didn't place it there nor claim it was there.
Did i rag on you, man? I hope an admin gives you a warning, i know i've recieved warnings for less than that. Pretty pointless trolling, i'd have been happy to explain all this to you without the insult.
Oh my god, man, you rock. Finally, someone that really understands why Fallout 3 was such a dishonor to the series.

Even with Interplay at the helm, they are going to lean in the direction of Fallout 3 as opposed to Fallout 1&2. If you think they are going to cater to the handful of 1&2 fans left when 3 has such an enormous built-in customer base... well your going to be disappointed. It won't even be up to the devs.... whoever is financing this thing will pretty much demand it.
Having said that, I prefer 2 over 3. But I by no means think that FO3 was a travesty or a disservice to the franchise.
Also, for those that don't know. Interplay has to have a released product by the end of 2011 or the license reverts to Bethesda.
You be tripping. FO3 was as faithful a rendition as it gets, and all the arguments fall on the idea that it lacked the same "charm" or "feeling"... is anyone really supposed to buy that? You're wrapped up in your younger gaming days and it's the same discussion as to why Duck Hunt > Time Crisis; Nostalgia.
I've played FO1, 2, Tactics, BoS and FO3. Only BoS and Tactics failed to acheive, and really everyone in the world sees the glory that is FO3 besides disgruntled oldies. It's the same bitching that would occur if a James Cameron franchise was handed off to Christophe Gans, you can trust him to do something good with it, but since it's not from the original people it's "just not the same".
End point; FO3 captured everything I expected from the series. Black humor, tried and true systems retooled, and a lot of the gothic art style down and nailed.
~With that said, I don't even know if Interplay can pull off a decent MMO, let alone another FO game after taking such a long break from development. Not to mention that Tactics *and* BoS was [Interplay's fault]. That should be nuff said.

Yo, GT, FO3 was not faithful to the core of Fallout at all, other than perhaps the setting. It was a shameless use of the Oblivion engine (no, not the Gamebryo engine, the completed Oblivion engine) to reskin their prior game using Fallout's IP.
Not to mention, I'm far from wrapped up in my younger gaming days. If that were so, I could go back to Clan Lord (tried and failed) and I wouldn't be so damn addicted to MAG.

There's nothing wrong with Oblivion's engine. Either they were going to spend a lot of money making something fresh, licensing some other engine that would be blasphemy to the franchise, or doing it retro with isometric views but actiony... ala BoS.
Short answer; No. There was nothing wrong with FO3, and everything clamored for would have been another misstep like Tactics or BoS. How many ways can you break from the turn-based gameplay, camera angle and graphical limitations of old without bungling to the OG-fanboi - like Interplay did twice, in a row. FO3 is infinitely better than those games, and mainly because Oblivion's playstyle was just as awesome. Call it a reskin of Oblivion if you want, Oblivion worked.
Next argument along the same lines is that games made with the Unreal or Crytek Engines are just reskins of something-or-other.

It's not just that it used the same engine. It's that everyone I know loaded up the game, played for about an hour and said "this is just like Oblivion" then proceeded to keep playing using the reason "I loved Oblivion" and the few that didn't do that quit, put it in its case and never touched it again saying "Oblivion was better, this is just a ripoff."

Don't throw around the word "ripoff" when the series failed twice in the original hands with Tactics and BoS. FO3 did extremely well and only offends fans of original fallout and people who hate open world games of it's kind. There would be no pleasing you folk without releasing project Van Buren, which would have just pissed you off for being 3d and playing like a simplified single-player EQ clone. Look up some videos, the real FO3 would have most likely broken your heart as well. If it doesn't do exactly what 10+ year old FO1/2 did, it is bound to.

Tactics and BoS were shameless spin-offs.
Project Van Buren I've played. It's not so much broken as it is just incomplete and lacking any sort of debugging at all. Why? It got cancelled before even the prototype was finished.
