I've been in the beta test for LinkRealms for a while now. The game isn't finished, but what is, is well... fun. Animations are great. The gameplay and general game mechanics are just plain fun. I have not once felt like I was grinding. The dev's are great too. They really take to heart what the players say, and bring many on for phone chats and actively participate in the forums. They seems more interested in making a game for players, not players making a buck for them. I have a lot of respect for them being such a small indy company but with such bug free and solid game mechanics.
Here's some typical things to do in game for an example:
Milk a cow, kill it, skin it. Plant a tomato seed, pick the tomato. Turn the milk to cheese, Cook the steak. Harvest wheat to flour, flour to dough, dough to bread. Make a cheeseburger. The crafting system is extremely in depth.
Visit one of the dungeons solo or with friends. Some of the dungeons are possible solo, but most require a couple players. None are simple tank and spanks though. The boss fights are "wow'ish" in the sense that you need to do more than just zerg it in like UO, but planned for a classless skill based game.
Raise one of the numerous skills, combat, crafting, or just random related.
Explore the world for treasure and rare spawns.
Upload my own realm using the realm building. Run events in my realm using the event modules.
Engage in some fresh pvp. Full loot is not enabled. Why? I don't think it adds to the game unless the game is more than 90% pvp based. PvP is fun. Some dungeons are pvp enabled to make them more dangerous. You drop your heals, gold, and resources upon death, but otherwise keep all your equipment. I think some areas with different loot-rules are on the drawing board.
Sometimes I sit around the bank, playing with the random items in game that make the world feel real. Like in UO how if you wanted a cup... you went to a tavern. I love being able to have all the simple, basic items used for decorating and roleplaying available where you'd imagine.
Check out the forums. A new wave of beta invites is going out soon. Most mature/active forum users get beta keys with each new wave. www.linkrealms.com

Aye, shoulda known. Figures they'd go out to forum members. xD
In any case, I've been really excited at the thought of this game. It's a game, a real game, and yet it also has realm creation.
Just seems to be quite a great game.

Looks like a slightly updated WoW colorized version of UO.....not sure I'm seeing it as the next great thing...but it is F2P so I'll give it a shot.
The next great thing? Probably not. It's going to be a niche game. But those those gamers... It's going to be home for a long long time. I lived in the same house in UO longer than I lived in my real house. This game is hoping to offer that same experience to players.
Let me clarify. When I said "The next great thing? Probably Not" I mean it won't be WoW. You won't see CNN talking about the 8 million subs. Will it be the next great thing to some? I think so. There are enough mmo players looking for this game right now. I was one of them. When they find it, it will be the next great thing to them.
I really want to get into this beta, but I don't see anywhere to put in an application to apply. The website says a member has to invite me. *boggle*
Join the forums on the official website. Forums members receive priority invites, not to mention active members of the community, so far, have been on the top of that list. Lots of invites are schedules to go out in the near future.
PM me a creation code.
He mentioned how to get a code just above you. ^^

I look forwarding to PMing you a creation code next wave of invites, provided I can find you on the official forums when that time comes! Look forwarding to hearing what you think of the active topics being discussed!

Lol at above posts, anyways i've been interested in the game but i refuse to do CB's now so im wondering if they have an estimate release date?
Gabby, I haven't heard anything personally, but it's been chugging along towards release nicely and based on what I have heard, I would expect it this year, and summer would be a reasonable guess. =]

Ooh that should be fun then, for now i'll wait till open beta hits.
I'm curious why you don't do closed betas? I was actually extremely surprised my first log on. I expected clunky controls and buggy content. Instead I had a very intuitive control that flowed naturally. I've found one bug so far, sent one of the devs an email, and it was fixed the day of. I'm a big fan of the game mechanics.
I did over 25+ last year, i'm sick of developers never listening to your concerns or ever fixing major problems which in my opinion is just like me shouting at a wall...simply pointless. Games with major potential like crimecraft or alganon had tons of ideas and suggestions to make the game good but devs never listen and look where they are now, it simply pisses me off. If all they want is free bug finding instead of paying QA guys, then no thanks im good.
Gabby, they listen and boy do they listen well.
The loot rules for PvP are there because of player suggestions.

LinkRealms is not a big AAA company following tried and proven methods. They are developers who put themselves in the players' minds. It is not uncommon to be on a skype conference with some devs and testers, brainstorm why something isn't working the way we thought, and a week later have another conference about if the fix we suggested improved it. I can log onto the game and point to a dozen features and name the community members they came from. I can think of some past features that the community didn't like that are no longer a concern. We arn't dealing with a team who wants us to stroke their egos. They want to make a good game as much as we want to play it, and realize it's a mutual relationship.
