I think you can get a boxed copy off of amazon.com if steam isnt working for ya.

And i do not know about a version of 64 bit steam.

Are you asking if there's a separate W7 64-bit version of the Steam client? If so, you're in the wrong forums.

I have Win 7 pro x64 and never had a problem with steam or any games with steam.

Odd i got W7 64 bit OS and run steam just fine, have you tried saving download file, then running compabilty mode, say win xp service pack 3, however not sure why this is occuring for you, as I never got the same message.

Your error have nothing to do with 64bit support of Steam. I had Steam in 64bit OS for a few years.

    Interesting Fact #36464672829:

Contrary to popular belief, Valve (who makes Steam) does have their own support forums.

Not to be an ass, but you may have better luck there.

Same here, I've been using W7 Ultimate x64 for quite awhile now and it has never given me a problem with Steam or any of its associated games.

I'm a massive L4D fanatic, so I'd be annoyed if it did, and would definitely have expressed my discontent previously if that were the case lol.

Hope you get your issue solved OP.

    Thanks,

i really do not know what is going on with this

i think this may resolve the problem -

This error is caused by a lack of user permissions, having the Steam.exe file attributes set to "Read Only", or by another program interfering with Steam's installation process (if the Steam client application has been updated to a version which was not included with your Steam installer package, Steam will download a new copy of itself and then delete the old Steam.exe file unless another program interferes).

    1.

    Check your Windows user permissions

Please ensure that you are logged in as an administrator on the machine which you are using to install Steam.

    2.

    Check file attributes

    1. Right-click on the Steam.exe file which was created after running the Steam Installer and select Properties

    2. Uncheck the Read-only checkbox if it is checked and hit Apply before closing the window

    3. Try running the Steam.exe file once more

    3.

    Check your security software's settings

If you are running an antivirus program, firewall program, or any security product which may be interfering with the deletion and replacement of the Steam.exe file (some security software will check a file's information every time it is changed and block automatic replacement of files) please check your settings for the program and make sure that you are prompted to allow activities which may trigger the security software.

    4.

Disable any programs which interfere with Steam
