Cash shop is open and Gpotato has just showed... *Updated*

vmopedvmoped Member Posts: 1,708

*Update* It seems the gpotato operators have at least ackowledge that players think the current pricing is "not fair" and have offered a portal through which to constructively discuss the issue!

Link: http://allods.gpotato.com/

...from their previous games. Let me illustrate with the current prices:

24 slot bag (6 slot upgrade from free bag) - $20 per toon

perfume to prevent or remove death penalty + bonus Hp + more - $13.50 for 20 (each one only lasts 30 mins)

double your bank from 18 to 36 slots - $15.00

And much more insanely priced CS items has proven all the detractors here that yes, Gpotato has made this game into an overpriced cash cow. The above items are not needed for you to play, but at endgame for raids and pvp the perfumes are pretty much a necessity. The bag increase is to alleviate the insanely small bag you get for free since alot of quests require you to carry quest items and/or pick up quest items. Crafting has so many components as well and the free bag just does not cut it. Of course the increase in bank size is also a frustration reducer.

I know they need to make money, but these prices (per toon btw) for a game that still has broken quests and performance issues for many to be charging at or more than monthly subs for one toon is just too much for this game when compared to other sub games. In the end, you guys were right.

Cheers!

I have to stop reading mmorpg posts.. they are making me depressed lmao.

I've been interested in this game for awhile now, havn't played it yet, but I most definatly won't be at all now. Thanks for that info, however depressing it may be.

Agree.  Why bother with them ?  They are certainly P2P alternative that offers a much better quality and value.

I totally loved allods, two level 9's and a level 12, wanted to play for a long long time.

But this post just made me quit and uninstall, thanks.

Fire up the game and click on the cash shop. The prices I listed are in US currency. The ingame 'gpotatos' conversion is $1 = 100 gotatos (ie: 1000 gpotatos = $10). The bag is 2000 gpotatos in game, hence $20 and so on. The cash shop is only viewable in game atm.

Walmart has proven that lower pricing with a slimmer profit will generate more net profit than higher pricing with a larger profit due to the variance in sales volume. IE more sales at lower profit tends to generate more revenue.

$20 to increase your carry capacity by 6 per toon is a bit ridiculous imo, and many others on their official boards. Especially considering the amount of garbage you are required to carry in the game in order to complete quests and advance.

We dont mind spending money for ingame items. We just dont want to be fleeced in the pricing.

Everything you listed there is an OPTIONAL item. Except maybe the perfumes, but I do remember reading that those would be available to be purchased with in-game money as well.

Idk, I will still be giving the game a shot. We will see if I feel like I need cash shop items or not.

  • Well if i dont like something i just dont buy it and dont play it..there are other games out there..

Items are tradable I heard so till leveling speed is not bad everyone that doesn't want everything NOW can buy them with ingame gold.

I am not surprised at all, having played Rappelz.

The problem is that they will slowly but surely increase prices and change from fluff items to must-have-or-be-gimped items. Seen it, been there, done it.

And as usual, there will be players that have more money than brains and buy anyway, feeding their need to be "on top". Or they don't care. Either way they will make sure that gpotato will not change one letter of their business plan.

The game, by the way, is very nice for a free-to-p(l)ay game.

Currently playing browser games. Waiting for Albion Online, Citadel of Sorcery and Camelot Unchained.

    "Microtransaction"

It means small, real money transactions. It doesn't mean ridiculously large, greedy real money transactions.

IMO to make money off of this game, they should have kept the prices low, and give you all sorts of fun things to spend small amounts of money on. It would mean that their game would achieve moderate popularity, and eventually make a lot of money a dollar or two at a time.

    My idea of microtransactions ...

$2 for a basic mount, $4 for a fast mount, $10 for a fast, rare mount that is functionally the same as the $4 mount.

    $2 for a bag increase, $4 for a BIG bag increase, $10 for a super-awesome-vendor-in-your-bag-expandable bag.

$2 for a player house. $4 for a BIG player house. $10 for a mansion.

    $0.50 for a 1hr xp boost. $2 for a 1 day XP boost. $5 for a 1 month XP boost.

$1-10 for vanity pets, vanity items, etc.

Small, meaningful transactions to keep the users playing. You could spend the same $15/mo you would spend on a P2P game and get a lot out of it.

I am at work, but going to delete Allod's from my PC immediately when I get home. I keep my pockets away from greedy people ... and my pockets are bulging.

    I disagree.

It's true that we generally game at home, and that internet cafes in North America died in the early 2000s.

On the other hand, a lot of us have busy lives, and would prefer a REASONABLE F2P-cs model because it would allow us to come and go as we pleased.

I used to casually play Runes of Magic. I had subs to other games, and busy months IRL, but whenever I was bored, it was always there. I dropped money at the cash shop more than once, because for $40 I could enjoy the game even more, and the $40 would last me months. It worked well for me. I feel that a well-developed cash shop model that isn't greedy could work just fine.

Your right but also take it in consideration they are Walmart is making a bundle on low prices because they pay almost nothing for it being made in China.

Keep in mind too that gpotato spends no more than their operating costs to make any of the CS items. Their value is purely subjective and involve a controlled overhead. Therefore they have even more 'wiggle' room with regards to cost.

So they are making a bundle off of players by charging a high markup. Thats so nice of them. I realize that it cost them millions to make this game and they didn't make a dime off of the box sales since their wasn't any. So having an overpriced cash shop is their way of repatriating some of their expenses?

  • AIMonsterAIMonster Member UncommonPosts: 2,059

The amount of players they are going to lose from this is going to be much greater than the profit they'll earn with the markup.

Uhmmm, this game is free. They don't care about players not buying stuff from shop. That's how f2p games operate. They need to make profit somehow.
  • CloudinkCloudink Member UncommonPosts: 120

To the OP where are you getting these prices? I just went on http://allods.gpotato.com/?m=game&a=comingsoon  for the item shop and all it says is coming soon, is the item shop open ingame?

more realisitc pricing TBH. The game had so much promise. Had they priced things a little more in-tune, I'd have played this a long long time.

Since the one thing I'd have bought regularly is perfume, and it only offers me 5 hours of penalty free game play, in a game where PvP is a huge factor, I'm not dropping $13 for every 5 hour session when I'll go through that in one night.

It's a shame. They seemed to have decided to gouge people since the gameplay itself was rec'ing good word-of-mouth. Oh well. Didn't cost me anything.
