F2P wins 2010?

IhmoteppIhmotepp Member Posts: 14,495

There are no good P2P MMORPGs releasing for 2010. This leaves the field completely open for the F2P games. I guess F2P wins 2010.

i disgree, as p2p are very low quality this year F2P ones are still years below with very few and rate exeptions.

    now: GW2 (11 80s).
    Dark Souls 2.
    future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord.
    "Bro, do your even fractal?"
Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.

How do you know?  Last I checked 2010 isn't over.  Not even close to over.

Little too early to tell?  It's still possible FFXIV might be released in 2010...

Thats a great assumption to make 2 months into the year...

There are actually a few, including some indie titles that have a shot at being very good. One especially for the sandboxers, Xsyon (if everything theyre listing in the features holds true and actually works well). Where is this list of great F2Ps that are coming out? Allods? already gone to shit with probably very little chance of recovery afte rthe cash shop thing. At best, it might have mediocre success, but nothing compared to the hype.

Either way, you dont know what games are coming, or just how good they will be. You say P2P has no good games coming, but how do you know the F2P games wont be much much worse in reality, not hype?

Just my opinion and I could be way off but I think F2P and P2P mmorpg's for the past few years have been horrid. This is just my opinion but if a game dev could just make a AC1 and DAoC mix with updated UI and Graphics, It would be sweet........maybe

I think TERA seems intresting as a subscription based mmo that maybe will released this year, not sure it will tho?

    Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009.....
In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.

Its good for those who like it for millions its not a fail.

And there are still many good mmo's out there if you give them a chance to enjoy, and i mean sandbox games.

I myself enjoy Darkfall even after more then year of playing(including 2months beta play also) and not planning soon on quiting, so np for me this year:)

Xyson has some interesting features, but looks more like a wish list than anything else. The biggest negative is "use it to improve it" skill system like Darkfall. For a number of reasons, I think this is the least immersive system to use for character construction.

It promotes repetitive actions, like macros, for no other reason but to raise stats, which doesn't make any sense.

It encourages players to not use the most effective skill they have, but to use the one they need to raise, which again makes no sense.

You  could shoot the bear because you have a great rifle skill. But instead, stab it a bunch of times. Why? Need to raise sword skill.

I have to agree with everyone saying that F2P has dropped down in quality over the last few years. I've spent the last 2 weeks or so trying out a few of the new ones, and they are really basic compared to the ones of 3-6yrs ago. They are just worlds with stuff and no real development in them. Sure, they look great graphically......... but that's about as far as it goes. The older ones used to be almost as good as the paid ones, usually with worse communities and just a little more basic. But now, it's like it's on a whole different (lower) level. Where's my cool weapons? Where's my cool skills? Where's my cool little thingy that no other game has? It may not be much, but at least it's something. It's like they don't even care to be different anymore. Hell.... Katros Online has probably one of the most basic weapon/armor systems I've ever seen and it doesn't help there is lag (clientside) between pressing the button for the actions and performing them. Even SUN doesn't really give me anything to strive for other than just making the next level.

Of course there are others out there who do things alot differently, but they do things so differently that it's kind of just like "ok, that's neat..... now what other game can I play?" lol.

In 2010, I don't expect many good titles to be released. Xysom is going to take a few more probably, FF14 may be at the very end, no chance in SWTOR in 2010 and other than that I can't think of anything.

Although, I do look forward to more development in Darkfall and Fallen Earth. Both, of those games have tons of potential and the developers seem to be headstrong about getting them to their potential.

Actually no Allods is a step up,in a way DDO and TCOS are a step up.Atlantica,Perfect world,Requiem and Runes are magic are step up.If you believe this don't believe go and play 2moons,12 sky,Shaiya and Rapplez these are type of games burn crappy korean grind in the heads of most mmo fans.

On the free play side C-9 is coming which is step up from what i have seen.I think console "mmo" the agency,DC Online and Apb are coming out too.

On the pay to play side only Earthise (Mortal too) stand out and luckly Earthrise devs have been saying the right things.Earthrise looks like the real deal.I think it will collective make all the sandbox threads disappear for about a month or so. Earthrise looks to be that good.

It would be great if F2Ps were better with a fair microtransaction system.  P2P games are just not worth the subscription anymore.  It's been a waste of money and time with every game I've tried after WoW.  I haven't found a F2P that I'm actually willing to play, yet.  It would be nice to not have to buy the box, pay the sub fee, then realize the game sucks.

APB ( All Points Bulletin ) is coming this year, which should be good hopefully. And I'm sure there will be some other games coming out that will be worth playing.

Like the above poster, f2p games have increased tremendously in quality over the past few years. Many of you probably only played a few of them, ive played them all and i can easily say that the quality is increasing with each release. Games like C9, mabinogi heroes, allods along with other upcoming games are really taking f2p games to the next lvl.

  • I still have 10 months left in 2010. Not sure about you but i think that there are going to be a lot of good games coming out this year.

people thinks: "yeah! free gaming!" but after a while , realising they have to spend 10 times more then every p2p game to be able to do highend content, they think "i could sub game xyz for a whole year with the money i have to spend after 1 month here"

  • BloodaxesBloodaxes Member EpicPosts: 4,662

^ Not really if you can't have self control that's not the problem of everyone.

Yes there are f2p that forces you to use the cash shop but most at least the newer ones make it possible to earn them from people with ingame gold.

To say again I played jade dynasty for more then a month and bought with ingame gold many item mall things that could have costed me on 100 $.. so why exagerating on f2p in general when it's mostly people that just want things NOW on games that they aren't even paying a dime?

They need to get money somehow even if most of the times the cash shops are a bit too much expensive.

A sub set of a genre can only win in a particular year if we all must move on to something new each year. If what you are playing is good enough to last you till 2011 then there is no issue.
