Situations in income have changed for my family so we are trying a "free" MMORPG. PW Int so far is the most interesting one we have tried. Great graphics, decent game play, awesome combat, and overall very fun for the first 10 levels. We were afraid of running into all kinds of foreign players but were releived that most people were speaking English and it was not overun by money farmers by the looks so far. It was kind of neat actually to see French, Spanish, and even Polish factions recruting. Seems like a very diverse player base!
Whats the catch? There is a botique to buy things from, but my question to any veterans is all content, armor, weapons, skills, mounts, and abilities obtainable by just playing and not spending RL cash? Can anything be obtainable by just spending the time to farm ingame gold or are there things that aren't cosmetic that need to be purchased with RL Cash?
So far we have created a cleric, the wife, and a barbarian, myself, to level with. We are unable to meet up until level 20 from what I have read in order to quest together. So we are working our way there, got 10 levels in one evening of game play. Also does that seem like a viable duo? Thanks in advance for any help or flames!

Got to level 14, first road block was $10 each to expand player inventory to 64 slots from 32. Working on quests to expand bank inventory from 8 to 16. I let the $10 each go in thoughts it would cost us $50 each to buy a regular retail game and then $30 each on sub fees. Figure $20 hit was not as bad as a $130 hit. Hopefully thats it for the time being.
lol *Crickets* guess not too many on MMORPG play this one. Got to level 20, wife and I can finally level together and hopefully make it interesting. So far my biggest complaint is the hotbar setup, other then that for free its been a fun couple of nights this week 1-20. Will check in periodically and update this post incase anyone is interested in how this game is.
The wife and I hit 20 and moved to the Main city where we could quest together and ended up getting turned off by the Asian feel of the game at this point. The game is full of people, was kind of fun, but we just got overwhelmed when we got to Archasaur. We are now moving on to another F2P, RoM, to see how that is.
RoM isnt that great Allods is Satan.. In Allods to make a well geared level 40 youd have to spend aropund 10k RL dollars to rune stone your gear.
Caution, Poach. I played RoM for a reasonable amount of time and really loved it... and really wanted to keep on loving it. Until it became painfully clear that to really play, it would cost a huge amount of money.
I enjoy PvP with certain qualifications. I think WoW got it perfectly with factioned PvP, clearly defined zones, guarded cities, no real conflict until you're ready for it, and faction-based chat, but with reasons to venture out into contested zones.
In RoM, PvP is not nearly as nice, but it's still ok. Until you get owned by career gankers that play Pay to Win. And since you can drop important equipment, any effort to protect yourself short of spending as much as they did becomes an expensive and hugely frustrating experience.
You don't need to spend money... though extra home storage space and pack space sure would be nice... especially since many quests require you to carry piles and piles of garbage. And you don't need a mount. You can walk everywhere...
The real cost comes with special fusion stones that allow you to merge pieces of equipment to get the stats from both. The stones you'll find in the wild result in combinations that keep the lowest stats first, resulting in better, but notably imperfect equipment. The imperfections get worse as you try to recombine items as you advance.
The only way to get truly spectacular and outrageous stats is to use pure fusion stones, which are only available... in the cash shop.
I once heard that to max out one piece of equipment would cost around $900. And you have 15 or so equipment slots. Of course, you don't have to spend this money, and you can bleed items for the people that do.
To answer your question, everything that is sold from the boutique is avaiable with game coin. The market is driven by cash players, and there is no shortage of them. As of April, the avg coin to gold is about 320k to 1 gold.
All of your gear and weapons can easily be attained by game drops from dungeons, it's only a matter of getting the drops from the bosses. That's the catch, the bosses don't always drop what you need, and if you are in a random squad, good luck geting what you need; could take you 15-20 trips to get all the drops you need for your gears.
The game is beautiful, the action is great, the bugs are aplenty, and botting happens. It's definately at the top of the list of my MMOs
Well the catch is that cash shop users got some kind of "auto potion" thing called "charm" wich prevents then from dying in some cases, making then much more powerful in PvP.
Other than that the game got the most cheaper item shop around and doesn't rape you wallet. All you need is inv. expansion and a mount, wich as started before, if you are 100% Free (no credit card or no money) you can buy then with ingame cash (as almost all item shop stuff are tradable).
Even thought the game isn't as polished as some F2P, it more than makes up to it by being much more populated.
*hint, if you need cash, you can even make a tank, people PAY for tanks to join their parties in this game because they are scarce
i suggest you try battles of immortals then!they have english people and is more tailored to the need of english community
perfect world is more tailored to what asian love
pay to win isnt big in america but in asia its all they rave about .hence the difference but perfect world(corp) this time around has splitted in two
they keep what made them big in asia but have devlopped a new team dedicated to sole purpose of finding
what will be their futur payment model! so far battle of immortal is the newest attempt !no!no!it will not be the finalised payment model for all pw game but its a work in progress so it might take them a season or 2 to find the proper payment model
but they are working very hard to try to get rid if this issue, since they have to get their new payment model (be it simply make their most promissing title become p2p or an alternate method of f2p they have yet to find)before forsaken world is released
since we all know this could become as big if not bigger then wow ,pw(corp)has to find a long term solution for the rest of the world
their market is a given they dont need to work on that but the rest of the world are very cold to the payment model pw(game)
use!so cold in fact ,most gamer never passed lvl 15!this is one big reason pw(corp)is working so hard to find a good solution
for the payment model!will they succed !thats a very good question!
