Betrayal at Krondor

1993 PC game based off of a Richard E. Feist? book I think.  Quite possibly one of the best single player RPGs of all time graphics notwithstanding (hey...its 1993 =D).

This game has *outstanding* mechanics, amazing world to explore, intriguing non-linear story and intuitive controls.  I just gotta ask--what the !@#$ happened to single player RPGs?  I mean, this was SEVENTEEN years ago, fucking massive and fantastic.  Anyone recommend anything quite this good in the sp rpg realm? (Also, BaK has been free for a long time if you want to play it and figure it out--it's rather unforgiving though =D).

Betrayal at Antara is also part of the series as well.  Second game I think, Return being the third game.

One of my best writers and series of books all starting with that great called Magician, what a fantastic mmorpg Raymonds worlds would make. You would have some fantastic classes, from Keshian dog soilder  to Tsurani assembly magician, the list is endless.

The VOs in Antara really rather ruined it for me--I can't say why.  It was really hard to enjoy it when everyone sounded like shit <_<.  In return to Krondor, the game didn't play the same.  The environment felt less interactive in 3d oddly enough.

I think what happened is the lowest common denominator thing.  How man copies did that game sell vs. something more "accessable" to the  casual player.   I saw someones signature once and it said, developers used to make games and made money, now developers make games to make money.

This is the same thing that happens to MMOs
