I'll be Obese before I can PVP

mmoluvammoluva Member UncommonPosts: 323

I purchased Darkfall 58 days ago and if you've read a post of mine I'm enjoying myself.  About two hours ago my significant other asked me to take the trash out after my shower.  They agreed to watch my screen while I was in the shower if I would take out the trash and do some odd errands.  After finishing my shower I began to dress and I noticed my pants were too tight to button the top button.  I tried to button the top button a few times and looked down at the scale and decided to weigh myself.  I got on the scale and to my dismay I had gained 17 LBS over a 58 day period.  I thought the scale was wrong and asked my children to weigh-in and the scale was correct.  As I walked out to the trash can I thought to myself " How much will I weigh by the time I can PVP"?  I figured I would be able to PVP roughly around november 2010.  Thats roughly gaining 8.5 LBS per month for the next 8 months equals an alarming additional 68 LBS.

I started thinking how can this be possible?  I play all sorts of mmo's and have never noticed something like this before.  Then it occurred to me that I really don't do anything at all in this game but watch my screen for 12-15 hours a day which is more than any game I've ever played previously.  I eat a lot of fried chicken, fiery hot cheetos and grape kool-aid while I play these types of games but I guess I move around a lot more during the other mmo's.  I write this to find out if anyone else is having this problem and to help the Darkfall community by bringing this issue to the forefront.  I'm starting to question if my real life health is a factor that might detour me from reaching my in-game goals or if I should cut my game sessions to 8-10 hours and see if it has an effect.

Would you cutback or quit a game if you were gaining 8.5 LBS per month?

I actually found this same problem, and I opted to quit.   Im a big guy, at 6 foot 2 Ive always been built like a tank.   However playing Darkfall over the last year gave this tank a spare tire., which I have never had up until this point.  In fact until this year Ive always considered myself pretty fit.  I could lift well over my own body weight, do my fair share of pull ups, and run a 6 minute mile.

    I could.

I cant anymore.   But I know the Pizza guy by name, and Ive got a few empty boxes of cigarettes around my house.

Although i will admit DF is a very slow game in every aspect, witch is not to say that is good or bad,it is a MMORPG not a FPS.

I really do not understand why anyone would play a RPG to PVP,it belongs in the FPS genre. On a scale of 1-10 i have not seen one game do PVP justice that i would give anything more than a 3/10.I am a huge PVP fan i was playing fps pvp long before i played MMORPG's.

So i would strongly suggest that if you want  to PVP try one of the many fps's,there is no boring wait times, everyone aside from the cheats is on near even terms,so you always have a chance to compete,no matter the game is 1 month old or 5 years old.

Also gaming can be a disease that grows on you,you really should consider sport activities, working out, weights, jogging.Myself i was a bit addictive at one time, but no longer,i can quit any game on a moments notice with no regrets,i never let gaming own me.

Yet another "creative" way to bitch about the grind, eh??

Do we really need more of these threads?

Thats a metric fuck ton of weight to gain.   Darkfall isnt your problem.  Your eating habits are and lack of excercise.

That being said, I too have gained a few pounds,  Jesus Christ we are getting older.   I do p90x while I harvest.

Hehe, something tells me this isn't the last mmoluva grind troll thread we're goin to have the pleasure of viewing.

Folks, if your gaining weight like the OP due to your game of choice, ffs change your lifestyle.

And lol at the guy who is a "built like a tank" from doing pull-ups and running. Have you ever seen the inside of a gym? That post was almost funnier than this thread. Almost.

Ths is a good Idea.  I never thought I'd be playing a game that would make me think of things I should do while it plays itself but this is precisely what I must do.  I think while my character plays Darkfall I'll set a daily push-up goal for myself and try as hard as I am in-game to reach my goals in real life.  I have a 12-15 hour block of time that I need to fill while watching my character play my subscribed game of choice.

You play "innocent" and "clueless" better than a nine-year-old congratulations.

    High-five!!!

Your keyboard must be a greased-up, orange-flecked mess!  I cant stand having my keyboard/mouse to have a film of grease on em.  I will get up and wash my hands even if they start to feel clammy.  And touching someone else's greasy keyboard/mouse, ewww.  I got a friend that just does not care and to touch his mouse is so nasty.  Your hand almost slips off the damned thing its so greasy!  image  Well, its your stuff, so do as you please.

But as for the weight.  Think of your children man!  Your unhealthy lifestyle/eating habbits will lessen the length of your life.  Thats less time to play Darkfall!  Oh noes.  Lets not have you say after your heart attack, "My only regret in life was that i needed 1 more week to hit necromancy mastery."  or whatever.

It takes what?  8 mins to mine a metal nod?  Thats 8mins you have to make it back from walking/jogging around your block.  Your kids young enough for them to lay on your back while u do push ups?  Oh, wait, you should just start with a smaller goal of acheiveing ONE push up first.  Maybe even a girly push up on your knees.

Some people schedule their life around a game.  And there's nothing wrong with that until they complain.  Your choice, your fault.  Im in the same boat so to speak.  I try to do too much, and therefore, lose out on some much needed sleep.  My solution is to have 28hour days (screw the day/night cycle) or make an 8 hour work day into 5.  A 12 hour work day to 9 hours, nationwide.  Paycheck uneffected, of course.   *sigh* only if.  If you think that mastery level is more important, your next 10peice bucket of chicken is on me.  Just give me nibble on a leg.

Maybe we can petition mmorpg.com to start a monthly article written by an educated and experienced Health Professional in an effort to get lazy ass gamers back in shape. If we start prematurely losing these individuals to Cheetos and grape Kool-aid, what fun would these forums be?

I was half-joking, but considering the physical condition of the average gamer maybe it isn't such a bad idea.

    No no no no no...

Don't you get it? It's all part of our secret plan to strengthen the human race.

Gamer gives up life to play games ---> gamer gets fat and ugly --> gamer never gets girlfriend/boiyfriend --> gamer never breeds --> defective gamer genes do not get passed on to future generations --> human gene pool becomes stronger.

Its a brilliant plan and IT'S WORKING!!!!! Buaaaaahahahahahaha!!!

    Well cancel that petition then.

If the human gene pool gets any weaker than it is, I'm going to have to find a new planet to live on ;)

Hands down, no other comments are really possible.... YOU cannot and should not blame any type of GAME on YOUR OWN PERSONAL fittness or health.

I find this totally ridiculous. I am on my computer alot, and i'm fit and healthy. Only YOU decide what goes in that mouth of YOURS.
