I don't usually get too hyped on mmos anymore after AoC, WAR, Aion etc all letting me down. But what I see in the gameplay videos has me totally excited. I'm surprised there aren't more people on these forums talking about this game. Having combat where you have to aim, and where tanks actually get to push people/bosses back looks so awsome. Every pvp video I've seen has made me want to play.
The graphics look really good to me too. They have done something with shadows/lighting that makes the characters look more "3D" than other eastern MMOs. The sheer size of most mobs is so badass as well. Anyways, just seeing if there are other people as excited as me. I'm not keen on SWTOR and wasn't looking forward to next year, but now I am:)

There arent many people talking about this because its a korean mmo. People have learned to expect little from them.
The Chronicles of Spellborn also had players aim their attacks, but no TERA hype levels. Why? Maybe because the characters in Spellborn didnt look like cheap under aged whores.

There was no hype because the gameplay was terrible:/ I played it briefly and could not believe how boring it was.
I played it too, and didnt think it was any worse of better than any other mmo. And what makes TERA's gameplay any different? You seem to able to aim in both games. Push mobs back? Ok, will that alone make the gameplay great? It seems to be just a toy mechanic tbh. Not to mention the graphics. Yeah they look fantastic. plenty of games look fantastic. But this is a mmorpg. I wonder how many people will actually be able to run it.
I have no feelings towards TERA, dont care if its good or bad. I dont think I'll play it. But about your question of hype, I really think its hard for people here to have alot of expectations for a korean mmo.

Does anyone else see quite a bit of racism behind all this? I always figured there is heavy nationalism fueling the reasons why the east and west can't sell their games on each others shores and take over. WoW may be doing great in China, remember where all the goldsellers are from, and which countries have the best exchanges rates. It should all start making sense.
Either way, I never turn my nose to a game without playing it, and I've found couple of good Asian MMOs (FFXI, Atlantica) in my time, and just find the rest as some kind of "wow clone of Asia" thing going on over there where that's the popular style to rip off and regurgitate over and over again.

Theres no racism there, just an observation. People have learned not to expect much from koreans (korean mmos, not korean people, although they are made by koreans, dont step into that loop). Shallow games with lots of grind and pretty upskirt views to disguise it. Having said that, I kind of liked Aion, so who knows. But despite the fact that I liked Aion, I still wont expect much from a korean mmo. Because Aion is a fun game, but theres just not that much to Aion imo.

Hold on, hold on. My mind is being blown here.
There's an upskirt view on top of the sideboob one?

Have you seen any media from Blade & Soul? And if you wanna stay on TERA, yeah, Ive seen 14 year old looking characters with barely anything on but panties and a sword.

People are not really talking about Tera, because it sorta just appeared out of nowhere.. w/o a huge hype train pulling it.
Spellborn, was poorly marketed, poorly managed, and failed to offer a rich content filled experience. I fail to understand why your so animated to talk about Tera, yet you could care less about it.. care to explain that me?
Plus your view on Korean games, and Aion made my goddamn brain blow up.
I for one am on the Tera train, I just don't post much about it here at mmorpg. I prefer to go to decated forum sites inorder to get like minded people talking about things we have in common.
Whether Tera will be good or not has yet to be determined, but so far-so good, at least for me.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
What can I say, another title I am looking into.
Great graphics, action oriented playing. If it brings at least the complexity of Lineage2 this will be a great game.
I have my eye on TERA, but with any MMO these days, I'm not getting my hopes up. I will try it out, but unless more info on it gets released, I'm not going to hype myself up for it just in case it ends up being another fluke.
I'm keeping a curious but cautious eye on it. I like what I've been reading from the American side of the developers regarding the changes being made for the Western release. Aion was supposed to be the ultimate marriage of Asian and Western style gaming, but we know how that turned out. If the TERA developers just keep in mind how that game failed to become the ginormous blockbuster it was hyped up to be, hopefully it'll turn out better. I still get irked by the gratuitous "Loli-sluttification" of the female characters, with requisite upskirts, but if the gameplay is there I'll learn to overlook it.

Don't throw the racism card when someone criticese a style of mmorpg. Korean mmorpgs are known to develop their games in a certain way. We don't hate em because they are korean but because of the gameplay.
I hope not. Lineage 2 is the perfect example of the way koreans develop their games. Grinding like there is no tomorrow with no lore at all. L2 was not a mmo role playing game. Your character had no story to be part of. The moment you started your aventure you killed a mob (with no particular reason) and then a few more mobs, and more and more. After 10000 killed mobs you get your cool equipments, pvp some peoples and that's all.
They changed it somehow with Aion (which I enjoyed) and I hope they keep going that way. A mmorpg should give you a sense of adventure, story and war betwen players and not make it a literally mindless work.
Thanks for the replies guys. I've played the typical grindfest korean mmos (Aion, L2) and to me the American developers behind this seem to know what they're doing. I like the idea of focus test groups instead of beta players to give US players what they want.
To me, if the game has some grind it won't be the end of the world. The combat system changes the grind, since you aren't just tabbing and pressing 1-9. If I have to think and react to whatever I'm killing, I won't be as pissed off at a couple levels of grinding. I'm really hoping they can pull this off, the world graphics look great, and when's the last time you played a good MMO that didn't have zoning? Even Aion has zoning.
People said the same thing about AoC with its combat.
I am also looking forward to this game!
I like the whole combat system!
Problem being? I approve of the clothing situation in Tera. I do imagine that this specific MMO is targeted for an overly male audience. Also this is High fantasy; if the flying horses and huge weapons didn't give it away then I don't know what to say..
I'm definitely keeping an eye on it. While I honestly think they're overdoing it on the eyecandy, there are some signs that they're not screwing around and that they're intent on putting out something really good. Even the upcoming Focused Group Tests, which will be seperate from the actual Betas, they're having testers specifically concentrate on things such as the lvl1-11 experience, UI feel, etc.
Time will tell, but browsing through the game's forums, there are definitely some things that stand out, and hint that perhaps the company's learned a few things from other MMO's failures. So I'm actually optimistic about it for the time being.
A Modest Proposal for MMORPGs:
That the means of progression would not be mutually exclusive from the means of enjoyment.
TERA does indeed look like an interesting MMO, the combat looks slick and action filled, the graphics jaw dropping, the boss encounters look OTT as you would expect with an Asian MMO and just perhaps this MMO might bring us Westerners about face and start to enjoy the next gen of MMO's.
Though I had to slap myself when someone mentioned Spellborn, ugh, horrible game, yes it tried to be innovative with it's combat, but sometimes it's a case of "Don't fix it if it isn't broken", the game was dull dull dull and just too damn awkward to really get into, pls don't try to compare it with an unfinished product that no one has had chance to playtest yet, I'd expect a first time MMO player to do that but not someone who's been around for awhile.
Looks like another mmo that came from the east. I see nothing in it that really catches my eye. Just more slutty dressed girls with something a bit odd about them to capture the player's attention. Seems like it'll be another mmo with nothing really worthwhile in my opinion....Plus the trailer is offputting by how much they try to sell the game with sexy girls with swords. Community > e-boobs.
I'm looking forward to trying this game out based on the couple of videos I've seen. The combat does look a bit interesting, but the world needs to give you a reason to go fight. I'm a big fan of the EQ1/Vanguard feel with the immersion of being in a world, so I agree the graphics look awesome in that respect. But, the excessive eye candy on the female characters takes that away.
You can make a good looking female character without all the fan service. There have been a few animes where I read the description, sounds cool, then I see the main character has boobs the size of watermelons, walks around in a bikini as normal clothes, and keeps her revolver rounds in her cleavage. Seriously, how can I take the story seriously with a main character like that. All goes towards a "believable" world.
There are not alot of people talkin about this game because its not close to being released yet. Just wait till this game gets its offical Western release date and US Beta dates. You say people can expect little from Korean games but I always ask this same question. Where are all these great Western MMOs? Name me one great western mmo that has released in the last 5 years.
I don't get blown awayu or hyped up about any game until I start getting hands on reports, lots of impartial videos and it's close to release.Evne then it's a reserved hope more thna anything. It's nto till I try the game myself that I'll let myself get excited if I'm enjoying the game.
I'm trying not to get too hyped over Tera like I did with Aion and AoC. The constant following and searching for new news every single day made me feel like i knew the game before I even installed it on my PC.
I'm watching Tera.. but in considerable amounts. Very excited.. Not overly hyped.
Ironic coming from someone with a TERA avatar, and a TERA signature.
