Really? I dont think thats the case.  This is a community forum, so if there's a trial going on that we dont know about through mmorpg.com, you can direct us to where it is.

I dont think mmorpg ever really explained why. If its not a legal reason, I think they just have some kind of alien stick up their ass.

MMORPG.com has a policy against Trial Keys/Buddy Invites, while not strictly defined, that states any information that would allow one player to gain a reward from the exchanging of buddy keys, recruit-a-friend, scrolls of ressurection, and/or beta keys (just to name a few) is not allowed on our forums. If you have any further questions about this issue please contact Mike, MikeB@mmorpg.com

    That's what I got.

They allowed it for a long time. So something must have changed. I'd just like to know what it was.

    Ridiculous...

Just another reason this site is in the shitter.  Jesus, I need to find another MMO site.

So mmorpg.com see's the principle in advertising gold sellers and preventing the community from discuss game-access through key availability about various games.  Nice.

But that is given by the game company itself. I always thought this site also helps to promote  fellow games , especially games that's not so well known, and help them to advertise their offer...

Blizzard didn't pay for enough adds these last few months, that's what happened.

I don't understand this aswell. what is the reason for a community not allowed to do this?

I think this will be the last time I visit this site.

I see people making post asking for invites and they are almost always answered. Then of course they get deleted : 0

    Hi guys,

Our policy is pretty simple with regards to trial keys/ buddy keys etc that fall under our Referral Links rule. Basically, as Avery mentioned above, if the other user stands to benefit from the referral it is not allowed. Buddy keys for example, often reward the player with a free month if the user they referred subscribes to the game.

For your reference here is the rule from our Rules of Conduct:

    "Referral Links

    • MMORPG.com does not support its members posting links for which they are entitled to reward. This constitutes advertising on the forums. If you wish to purchase advertising with us, please contact admin@mmorpg.com."

I understand that a number of moderators in the past have created stickies for these keys and thus many of you are confused, this is why I instructed one of our moderators to post these notices. I found the situation of warning users for referral links to be odd when there have been sticky threads created by moderators in the past. As a result, we are going through the forums with these sticky threads, remoivng them, and putting these notices in place to make clear our stance on this.

    I apologize for the confusion.

This is a horrible rule, if this is considered advertising then so should any positive player made review, however I guess your safe from that for now, I haven't seen one of those in ages!

I've gotten referal keys on this site before for games that otherwise do not allow trials and is no other way to get a trial other then from a paying subscriber. How is being allowed to try something for free before you pay money for it an advertisement?  In a sense, every tidbit of news posted on the main page is an advertisement for its corresponding game. I'm sure you guys are not paid to post game news, its just part of the site.

I'm going to agree with the moderators that posted the key threads as stickys. This system seems to reward mmorpg.com members. The people offering the key get the potential to play a game they already enjoy for free and the people asking for the keys get to try a game for free before paying for it.

Now if its someone spamming links for a game, I understand how that could be disruptive. However how does posting a request for a trial key qualify, or offering trial keys fall under that same category?

I am going to be speaking to the guys for some clarification on this issue. I will get back to you all with an update as soon as possible. I appreciate your patience!

This is a legal thing man!

Its the company that provides such a service, not gold spammers or some freaking other companies.

MMORPG.COM as 1 of the most view web site for this gerne, will greatly help those smaller games out there by promoting their free trial, RAF etc.

If not, than only those with huge financial power companies stand to gain, which is not healthy.

Hopefully you guys will re-look at this policy and help out indie companies...

If possible, could you also ask why it seems to be allowed for certain games (i.e. World of Warcraft and the Scroll of Ressurection system) yet not for others?

There is absolutely no difference between a Scroll of Ressurection, an EVE 21 Day Trial or a AoC Buddy Invite/RAF Invite. They all serve the exact same purpose. However, for some reason, these methods are not allowed for EVE or AoC but are deemed completely acceptable for WoW.

It's very confusing and doesn't seem to make alot of sense.

To be clear, this was only applied to links that benefited the user. Posting links to a game's official free trial hasn't ever been an issue. Again, I will get back to you all as soon as I know for sure and I apologize deeply for any confusion this has caused!

OK guys. We have discussed this issue and come to the conclusion we will be adjusting our stance on Referrals. Referrals that may earn you free game time will be acceptable, however programs such as Aventurine's program for Darkfall where you can earn cash kickbacks will not be. The links will also be restricted to stickied designated threads in their respective game forums. This means if you post said keys or links in your sig, avatar, profile quote, or post threads outside of the designated thread you may find them deleted and may receive a warning.

I personally have no issue with buddy/trial keys and such as long as we can keep it controlled and it doesn't end up spamming the forums. I appreciate everyone's feedback on this issue and I again apologize for the confusion. The notices will be taken down and the deleted sticky threads will be restored.

If there isn't a designated thread in your favorite game's forum and you'd like to have one made please contact me at community AT mmorpg.com. Thanks!

Seems like a good Idea. It's just a free service that seems to be needed. I would say in most cases it only benefits the person looking to try out the game. TY !
