After a long hiatus from mmorpg's I thought I was free from my addiction but perhaps not. I just came back to mmorpg.com poke around bit and ran into TERA.
Do we know how the pvp will work yet? Is the game PVE with pvp area's, or is it more like Daoc?
Also , do we know how large the world will be and will they be offering a free month? My biggest fear is getting addicted to this and having it fail due to poor pvp and or low population.
Comments
If those are your worries you can rest assured because TERA will be open PvP unless you play on a PvE server. The game won't have low population either since Bluehole Studio envisions the highest player load per server in the world and the world is quite large as it is and it's still in development.
11 x 8.4 miles or 96 square miles
Edit: corrected the post, really embarrassing mistake.
It seem like they modified the wow world map just a lil bit.

According to En Masse/Blue Hole they are actually focusing more heavily on the PvE of the game than they are on PvP. You can find that somewhere on the official forums, however there will be PvE & PvP servers, and there will be PvP on both.
On a PvP server it sounds like it will be open world PvP along with the other systems (BG's, Political Wars, etc)
On a PvE server you will have certain areas designated for world-pvp but overall you will not be allowed to gank players unless they agree to fight you. PvE servers will still have the BG's, Political Wars, Etc for their PvP fix and honestly that's where I will be playing. I've never been a huge fan of ganking or being ganked.
The world design is mostly seamless, no zoning except for instanced dungeons, and instanced story sequences, but there will also be open-world dungeons as well! They've designed TERA to be massive, according to a post on the official forums by BH/EM they plan on launching with over 55 zones filled with content, which would indicate they are aiming for a very high number of subscribers.
Will there be teleporters/ teleporting in TERA ? I've been watching some youtube videos and the mounts and landscape look great. Would be a shame to just be able to jump from location to location.
Also, does character customization end at the character creation screen or can it continue on throughout the game. Will we be able to change our hair and facial features at a later time? etc. Will the Armors be unique in their appearance from one another? In the video's I have seen so far, the armor for each class all look the same. It would be nice to be able to have different color/ style armors and weapons and guild emblems on our equipment.
You might find more immediate and complete answers on their forums, as their pretty active. As I understand it, they are providing quite a bit of breadth and depth and attention to their PvP, even for the PvP servers.
I'll probably find myself on the pvp servers since I enjoy a nice balanced blend of pve and pvp, and not one studio has been able to provide encouraging pvp balance on a pve server where you're more often a puppet on a sting to a linear series of coded quests, championed by computer controlled npc's; almost like being a dog on a leash and being lead around by the neck with borish constraint.
I'll likely be on the PvE server too... I'm not a fan of ganking or being ganked either. I do enjoy world PvP, however I like it to have purpose, like the open-world RvR areas in WAR. You are fighting over objectives in a battlefield area... you enter the area knowing full-well it's open PvP and you can get attacked. IMO this is the way open world PvP should be... not just mindless ganking for no gain... but fighting on battlefields for objectives that yield in-game rewards. Hopefully that's what TERA is going to have in the PvP zones...
I'm also looking forward to the open-world dungeons. It adds a little bit of urgency to the fight if your party isn't the first to get to the boss, too bad... gotta wait for a re-spawn now.
Enmasse is really doing some very cool stuff with this game that I am really looking forward to... the open world PvE dungeons, dodge/parry being a mechanic that is based on character movement instead of stats, no click-to-target for melee and ranged... all of this is quite refreshing to see in a world of "me too" MMOs that all follow similar gameplay mechanics.
Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level, then beat you with experience.
Daoc had fun pvp, until a zerg would run you over that is. Will have to check out their forums tonight, im still getting used to this forum thing
Tera looks to be A LOT like Aion but without sticky targeting. art, colors, animation, even classes look a lot like Aion. hopefully it plays smooth and doesn't have all too much grind.
I just corrected a really embarrassing mistake in my last post.
Indeed the map looks a bit like in WoW, which is most likely why they changed it. Here's what the current world map looks like.
Basically, the map that I posted previously was used before this one and the only reason I posted it is because it's a picture from a game show and it shows the exact dimensions of the world.
