I am still playing WoW, but only because of my guild. There has been a lot of interest in GW2 amongst my guildmates though. This is the first time in the 4 year history with my guild that more than just one or two of us is interested in another mmo.
GW2 is probably going to be the game that will move most of our guild from WoW, and we most likely won't look back.
Cataclysm was such a disappointment for me. The new 1-60 was very interesting the first two times through it, but it's just tired now. 80-85 is boring, and I hate that you have to be 80 to get into Cata. 68-80 in northrend is just hideous anymore.
I hear ya. I levelled a Dranei Shammy from 8th to 78th level. TBC content to lvl 20 was excruciating! Then, once I moved to the new cata content I was having a blast all the way to 60. Then 60-70 was torture, 70-78 almost as bad. Thought I'd skip to Cata 80+... NOPE! Mobs had twice my hit points, which is doable, but would be excruciating.
At that point, I dug through the forums and found out they did this on purpose. And also found out that they basically set things up to where there are only 5 levels, but that it was designed to take as long to get through them as WotLK's 10 levels. That's when I hit the cancel button.
I may resub in the future. The Goblin and Wargen starter area's were great, and the 1-60 is light years beyond vanilla, but I'm burnt out, and it's starting to get nice outside, again.
I just acquired my first flying mount I've ever had over the weekend. That has pretty much made WOW a completely different game for me now. It's amazing the feeling of running, hitting space and taking off into the air for the first time. Not to sound dorky, but it was kind of exhilarating.
It makes the game completely different now...where I land to tackle a quest suddenly becomes part of the strategy...being able to go to areas at will to do cloth or gold farming makes crafting and doing auctions a lot more enjoyable.
So I'd say I have at least another year before I'll be leaving WOW. I might add another MMO at some point (tried to get into Rift, but WOW kept dragging me back), but I doubt I'll completely leave WOW for awhile.
As for the community, out of all the experiences (at least over 100 now) I've had with random elite and dungeon groups, I've only had one bad experience. I did an elite the other day in the Dark Portal area with some dudes who just happened to be there and everyone was very nice. I dont think you can possibly escape all the jerks in any MMO...
A better sense of community, or at least a friendlier one, game mechanics that bring players together instead of always trying to separate them, better balanced PvP with a focus on more large scale battles. Not sure if it would take all 3 of these things at once. Time will tell.
Vault-Tec analysts have concluded that the odds of worldwide nuclear armaggeddon this decade are 17,143,762... to 1.

WoW's flying system is the best I've experienced in an MMO*. Simply for the fact that once you hit the ground, your mount starts running, again. It annoys me to no end that CoX and CO still have you floating 2 inches off the ground instead of using their feet.
*I never played Aion to the point where you could fly, so...
Just quit this week, I was finding the game increasingly unbearable to play. Thought I'd give dragon age another go and guess what? I find that near unbearable as well.
Theres a distinct possibility that I have come to loath the whole being led by the nose thing, I was toying with going to Rift, somehow though I get the feeling I'll burn out like so many others have.
Must admit, I still love the fantasy genre, it's just no-one for the longest time has created the immersiveness that was prevalent during my first 3-4 years of online gaming, from nwn pw's to vanilla/tbc wow.
Maybe gonna try the witcher/witcher 2 and a few other single player titles before returning to the online space.
Edit: Maybe a re-run through Baldurs gate 1 &2 and the expansions should also keep me away for a month or 2 :P

I love WoW flying mount system, it's also a way to show off you raiding experience and how lucky you are in WoW. But after close to 6 years WoWing, I have moved on to Rift. I have nothing bad to say about WoW, it was fun but it's gotten too old after playing the same game day in and day out. Rift shows up at the right time and I have been riding my 2 headed turtle since March. Now if Rift can only make me fly again =D
As many others have said, the game has evolved into something much different than what it was when I fell in love with it. So I fell out of love, pretty simple. Though I am still nostalgic for Vanilla and Burning Crusade WoW.
Also, once a formula is repeated too often it becomes predictable and transparent. Kind of a 'veil is lifted' sort of thing. And that point it didn't feel like fun anymore, but more like a second job with the dailies and so on.
Good animations for movement and all combat related actions. Giant pixel titties. (Yes, I'm serious.) High population. Solo play. Good, fast paced combat. Large, open-world design with no to very minimal zoning. Raid oriented end game, pvp secondary but optional.
I like dungeons, but I'm a solo player so that's mostly a side-venture for me, even though for example: Temple of the Winds in Anarchy Online, or Kaladim in Everquest 2 fostered some of the most fun I've had in either game.
When I realized I was running around the top of the bank at Orgrimmar for hours and hours a day, I finally quit. I spent an ungodly amount of time doing that, playing stupid chat channel quizzes with my brother, and wishing I'd not been a healer because of the bitch of a time I had leveling.
Also, the game was terrible. Grind levels to get the chance to grind gear. That grinds my gears.
I still enjoy WoW but I'm quite aware its way past its best . I recently started to level an alt by questing I could'nt get into as it was too easy . So tried leveling through doing the instances through the looking for a group system but they seamed like cakewalks compared to what I remember . I enjoyed world pvp but since most people are in instances it seams to have died a bit of a death . I still enjoy the bgs and the arena some of the endgame instances are challenging and fun but its all the dross you have to wade through to get to them . I think the only thing that would make me quit if a game comes along that gives me that original WoW feel and since trying RIFT I'm spending less and less time in WoW . I guess it really depends on RIFTS endgame but at the moment I feel it does a lot of what WoW does but its just been taken to the next level and it at least offers a little challenge .
To those that play WoW, obviously. What would be the top criteria for you to go to another MMO?
Well I don't currently play WoW anymore but to answer your question....WoW. WoW will make me move to another game permanently. The games been around long enough to have given me my fill of it.
Quoting from the first page because it's exactly my reason for leaving. No other game, ever, has kept me playing for 5+ years like WoW. That's a pretty impressive feat on it's own, but it was inevitable that it would get old eventually, no matter how great the game, expansions, or other content were. It was fun, lasted me a lot more then the average shelf life of games, and I moved on. I commend Blizzard for a job well done to entertain me for that long. I love my new MMOs (currently Aion & Rift), at least until they either get old or something better comes along.
I tried WoW... but it was really too damn simple (death is just an annoyance more than something to worry about), lvling is too much of a grind and themeparks... get boring after a while...
I've played a lot of games and usually go back to them once in a while. The only game i haven't had that with is WoW...
Pretty much the reason why I quit WoW and went on to other games better to my liking
Fight to Survive, Survive to Fight
The difference between a killer and a soldier is a question of loyalty
No, but I think it would take an mmo that always has something accesible and fun to do and for that mmo to be seen as something that you can make your new mmo home, so to speak.
I mean, I'm subbed to 2 mmo's right now, and on free months for another mmo(Xsyon). Of those two one is wow(other is Darkfall), for the simple fact that when things get dull in other games, not much to do, activity is down after peak, don't feel like doing x just to do y, ect... I can log on to wow, see people I've known for years, and do something instantly. I'm not subbed to it every month, but very on and off, every patch or two, ect. because it's always there with stuff to do.
And I don't think a game that is overly similar to wow is enough to permantly draw WoWer's away to it because, why should they leave wow where they are already established, with more content, polish, and friends?
It would have to be a game with lasting appeal, that was different enough but still similar enough to interest them. And I don't think it will ever come... wow will just run its course, eventually be chipped away by other big name mmos, and stay afloat for many years.
Also, there is ALOT of ex-WoWers, but wow is always drawing new ppl in to replace them, how long it can keep that up is the question.

Cancelled last month going to LOTRO which I tried at launch just didnt give it a fair shake. Will now. Playing on sub no F2P

If Arche Age or the rebirth of Dark and Light are what im hoping i wouldnt ever consider going back! Arche Age looks very promising - D&L who knows...

Cataclysm.
I approve of this clever what have you.
I derive my strength from passion. Do you feel that? That is what seperates you and I, Jedi!
I did quit WoW because the only thing I really enjoyed, after some years playing it, were raids. But I didn't have the time for them anymore.
Let's play Fallen Earth (blind, 300 episodes)
Let's play Guild Wars 2 (blind, 45 episodes)
